My friend Scott McKay at The Hayride (in Louisiana) is kind
enough to cite approvingly a post of mine in support (mostly) of
the Boehner position on the payroll tax holiday… but he then goes
on to reason it out more fully, and
illustrate the issues better, than I did. The money
paragraph:
It seems strange that Boehner is being advised to cave because
of “optics” less than a week before Christmas on a policy question
where he’s clearly in the right - even his critics cede him that.
So what if Chuck Schumer is singing show tunes over his party’s
victory in a meaningless news cycle or two? If this country is
going to be turned around it’s going to take a lot more strategic
thinking than just attempting to beat Democrats one news cycle at a
time.
I’m with Scott.

The one time I want the conservatives/Repubs to go ahead with it...for all of our sakes...
They walk right into it.
Whether they are right or not is not the question...
The hills to stand on have passed months ago...
This ain't it...
But somebody thinks that it is.... Let's face it...our party IS the Stupid Party, and it likes it that way.

The problem is that a two-month reduction is a regulation tax. What happens if someone has a yearly salary, or a weeky salary that cuts across the month boundry? It is a job-creation bill - for accountants and computer programmers. In this bad economy, you are making the small businessman take time away from his business and try to figure out how to apply this.
Not to mention that this tax is supposed to fund Social Security, for heaven's sake!

Many conservatives fail to realize how fortunate we are to have Boehner in control of the House. He's manaaged no giant coups as yet, but he plugs away at slowing Obama's rush to destruction of the economy.

You have got to be kidding me. I understand that Boehner is not necessarily bad...
But he lost me when he and his boys turned their fire on US for not going along with a fraudulant deal...
Do you remember us being called Hobbits etc etc...and some of these Am. Spect. columnists berating us for not going along???? because we didn't get everything we wanted? Because we don't understand politics...Because we wanted them to take a stand...
Well, most of us do remember...and he is doing no more than any Speaker could do...
Problem with Mr. B is this... He doesn't know which ground to hold, and which ground to cede.
Agree or Disagree with me...but their hasn't been one DIME cut from the budget has it?

A news cycle or 2? Are all the pundits on direct deposit? You don't think workers are going to notice the drop in their paychecks and blame Republicans for it? There is going to be a hurt on Jan 8-15.

The truly foolish ones are we conservatives who form the base of the Repub Party. We have continued to re-elect politicians and 'leaders' who talk the talk, but ALWAYS bat .000 when it comes to the 'fight'. Boehner obviously has no intention of reigning in the Federal Leviathan in any meaningful way. Two years and NO budget reductions. What have YOU done to find or fund a replacement for Boehner and other faux conservative politicians? Each of us should devote in '12 some serious time and cash toward their defeat, before we drown in a sea of debt. The fat lady is warming up.

Bohmer does something right, and all you can do is attack him. No wonder the establishment isn't co-operating.
