Well, that's hardly saying much, now is it?

Who here thinks that Perry hasn't repeatedly proven himself to be a joke? And who here has any confidence in his supposed "record" in Texas.

As Obama's getting of Osama was made possible by policies and personnel already in place, so was Perry's record in Texas made possible by policies already in place.

Romney is a joke, we all know that. But his rejoinder to Perry's list of accomplishments in Texas was on target.

Maybe you might want to revise the heading on that post.

Steve| 12.19.11 @ 4:29PM

Dan,
Who isn't a joke to you, who do you like?

Nite| 12.19.11 @ 10:19PM

Perry has been a Governor for 10 years of a state larger than most countries of the world. So policies already in place? Not hardly. I am from TX and know very well the skills and knowledge. We get you don't like Perry, but your ugly trashing of him is not needed.

Mike| 12.19.11 @ 1:06PM

Well, Joe McQuaid endorsed Newt Gongrich, saying "I went with the guy who knows he's full of shit." In other words, he supports the candidate with the ineffable right wing qualification.

Dan| 12.19.11 @ 1:42PM

Yea, but being as you termed it, "full of shit" is not an unimportant political skill.

The diff is that Gingrich is self aware enough to realize that about himself, and being able to laugh about it too.

Romney meanwhile, likewise Perry, are earnest stiffs who have gotten where they are by never having had to demonstrate GENUINE excellence, meaning GENUINE ability to think outside the box.

Joe R| 12.19.11 @ 2:52PM

Think outside the box! Think outside the box! Dude, I hate that cliche. Please don't use it anymore. You will be punished if you do.

Dan| 12.19.11 @ 6:36PM

Yea, I don't like it too much either, but I still use it occasionally.

Dai Alanye | 12.19.11 @ 1:48PM

If Santorum knew how to present himself, the poll numbers would show this and more. But he has done better lately. He needs two things - to understand that elections are about the future, not the past, and to play up one big idea, even if it's a gimmick to some degree.

Instead of explaining his tax idea regarding manufacturing he needs to rely more on a simple slogan. 9-9-9 having been taken, I'd suggest Bring Our Factories Back. I'm sure someone can improve on that.

Bob| 12.19.11 @ 2:26PM

Now that Speaker of the Blouse has sputtered Rick the Mega Dick is the next candidate for the Bum of the Month Club. 59-41 anyone?

bill| 12.19.11 @ 2:35PM

Why Rick Santorum will never get the GOP nomination:

1. He supported Spector over Pat Toomey

2. He voted for the unfunded Medicare Part D

3. He lost his senate re-election bid in 2006

4. He has no plan on fiscal issues

5. He is an aggressive debater and lacked leadership

6. He does not want to be the POTUS, he wants fame and to be Huckabee (just winning the IA Caucus, and that will do for 2012).

Anommynous| 12.19.11 @ 5:04PM

"1. He supported Spector over Pat Toomey"
Perry supported Al Gore.

"2. He voted for the unfunded Medicare Part D"
Perry was an advocate of Hillarycare.

"3. He lost his senate re-election bid in 2006"
But he did win his re-election bid in 2000 in a blue state without compromising his principles. Not many Republicans won in 2006...

"4. He has no plan on fiscal issues"
But Paul Ryan does, and Santorum has expressed his full support. I want our nominee to work with Paul Ryan.

"5. He is an aggressive debater and lacked leadership"
I want an aggressive debater who will really take it to Obama in the debates. This is the allure of Newt. As for lack of leadership, I don't know what you're talking about.

"6. He does not want to be the POTUS, he wants fame and to be Huckabee (just winning the IA Caucus, and that will do for 2012)."
Ridiculous.

Look, I like Perry, but he's not free of blemishes. I really wish that Perry and Santorum were battling it out for the top spot instead of Newt Romney.

bill| 12.19.11 @ 6:06PM

Please check the facts:

1. Ronald Reagan was a democrat before he became a Republican. TX was back then a blue state, and Rick Perry turned TX from blue to red.

2. Perry never advocated for Hillarycare. That's a lie. Perry joined 26 other states suing Obamacare. He opposed the individual mandate from the very beginning. He championed on states' rights in his whole life.

3. In 2000, PA was a red state. Bush carried PA handily. PA had a GOP governor, GOP legislator, and the majority of congressional delegation dominated (12 to 7) by GOP.

4. Rick Santorum never supported Paul Ryan's plan, he mumbled in a vague way when he was asked about it.

5. Santorum is a Washington insider and has no executive experience.

6. Santorum only campaigned in IA because he knew that he would never win in NH, SC, FL. He wants to be Huckabee, a fading politico and rising media figure.

I like Santorum, but Rick Perry is more electable because he has been three terms governor of TX, a state with 26 million people and 50% of its population is minority.

Santorum's last political ambition was his re-election bid, in which he lost.

How can Santorum become the POTUS while he cannot win his own state, PA .

bill| 12.19.11 @ 2:39PM

The GOP Primary Result:

NH: Mitt Romney

IA: Ron Paul

SC: Newt Gingrich

FL: Rick Perry

Super Tuesday: Rick Perry

and the winner : Rick Perry

and the President: Rick Perry

Oh, Obama had bought a house in HI and is vacationing there.

How about that?

LOL| 12.19.11 @ 5:22PM

LOL LOL LOL

bill| 12.19.11 @ 2:51PM

Rick Perry never lost an election and won three times as the governor of TX.

Santorum could not even win his re-election bid.

Joe R| 12.19.11 @ 2:55PM

Actually, Little Ricky did win his first re-election bid for the Senate in 2000 albeit by a close margin against a weak opponent. His second attempt at re-election in 2006 was the one where he got trounced.

Al Adab| 12.19.11 @ 2:52PM

Iowa and NH do not matter a whit; neither state will go republican in the election. FLA and SC do matter along with Ohio and VA. Those states will decide the election as the GOP cannot win without their electoral votes.

Nite| 12.19.11 @ 10:22PM

Santorum simply does not have executive experience and is not qualified to be President of the US. He is a nice man, but unelectable and with limited money for a campaign. He would do better to run for Senator again.

Dai Alanye | 12.20.11 @ 12:58PM

If executive experience counted with the voters Sarah Palin would be President today, since she was the only candidate of the four in '08 who had any. On the other hand, Kennedy would have lost in 1960. The voters at large have no interest in the resumes of candidates, being impressed most by how "presidential" a candidate makes himself appear. Obama's lack of executive experience, combined with his almost completely ineffective legislative experience should have lost him at least fifty-six of the states.

Oldefarte| 12.20.11 @ 10:14AM

We don't need any more SHOCK & AWE from presidential candidates [but instead proven professional administrative experience in solving problems]. We've had that with JFK, Clinton and now Obama, and LOOK WHERE THAT'S GOTTEN US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ken (Old Texican)| 12.20.11 @ 1:03PM

Quin,
you are starting to piss me off!

Santorum can't even carry his own State. He is a wuss and a whiner.
The nominee will be either Newt or Perry. Get used to it and get your head out of your butt....maybe even say something nice about Newt or Perry. Surely you have it in your mockingbird butt with your alligator mouth.

Bob Grant| 12.20.11 @ 2:47PM

Er, He was just forwarding another writer's opinion.

Geesh, is Perry worth the hassle of getting bent out of shape when the slightest criticism is directed toward him? .....even indirectly?

When Perry is on, he's pretty good to OK, but when he's not - which is most of the time - he's like a brain-dead version of George W Bush.

Now, do we really want to support him and guarantee an Obama victory?

Ken (Old Texican)| 12.20.11 @ 5:32PM

Bob Grant,
remind me what was the SECOND time Perry had a "step in it" moment.
I thought it was pretty cool that he could laugh at himself afterwards for loosing his train of thought.

Perry IS the energy candidate and Liberty candidate. If you would rather have Obama, then God bless your ignorance.

Oldefarte| 12.21.11 @ 2:29PM

That's surely not going to get you any favorable sales reports from your Ken OT BOOK-OF-THE-MONTH-CLUB. It ain't at this point gonna be neither of the Ricks [one's as you say too whiney and the other is too gaffe-prone, which sadly is important to the populace's STUPIDLY thought processes or lack thereof] , but instead be either Mitt or Newt [either of which would be a blessing compared to the socialistic imbicile now occupying 1600]. The truth is that Perry would no doubt make a better president, but the similar truth is that to date he does not have political traction needed to get the nomination!!!!!!!!!

Edward Cropper | 12.22.11 @ 5:52PM

Santorum comes across as a cry baby and always seems to be angry. He toots his own horn too much and would make you think he is a winner, when he got creamed his last outing .
