Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly gets a lot of flak for taking note of the “war on Christmas.” Of course, O’Reilly is absolutely right: There has been a concerted effort, by anti-religious secularists and God-haters, to deprecate the cultural significance of Christmas. And, unfortunately, they’ve been very successful. Why, walk into any store in any large metro area (New York, Chicago, L.A., D.C., et al.), or any governmental complex, and you’ll rarely, if ever, hear someone say, “Merry Christmas.” Those words are now taboo. “Happy Holidays” is all the rage, and the implication is clear: Christmas is nothing special; it’s just another holiday, like Labor Day or New Year’s Day.

So it is refreshing (albeit not surprising) to hear a prominent Israeli Jew, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, say aloud what too many American Christians are afraid to say publicly: Merry Christmas. (H/T to Smitty over at The Other McCain.)

I say not surprising because, of course, it took a Jew (Jesus Christ) to found Christianity. And, as Netanyahu observes, the Jewish state is today a refuge, not only for Jews, but also for Christians, who are being persecuted and discriminated against in many Islamic states.

Mazal Tov, Prime Minister. Happy Hanukkah — and Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas, Bibi Netanyahu! Jesus Christ is LORD!

Bibi should say Merry Christmas. He gets billions in Christmas presents, every year, from dimwits like Margie here. After 63 years on the dole it is time for the world's greatest welfare queen to finally be it's own Santa Claus.

I wish our so called leaders had the guts to say Merry Christmas. I haven't heard of one Senator or Representative complaining that they can't say Merry Christmas in their franked mail. It just shows that no matter what party they belong to our elected representatives are all craven cowards.

sjccoach, I understand that Hanukkah is part of the category of the Holiday Season and cards are sent out to many with different religious preferences. What riles me to no end has to do with the slime ball activists who come out from under the rocks during the holidays and are able to have Christmas and Hanukkah decor removed from public areas, because they're "offended"....so phoney, but local leaders haven't the marbles to tell them to go back under their rocks and shut the heck up.

I'm old enough to remember when defending the true meaning of Christmas meant wanting to reserve that word to refer to the celebration of the birth of Christ, and not wanting to see it turned into a word with the "cultural significance" of trees and tinsel and lights and retail extravaganzas.

These days the so-called Christians are doing the work for the atheists, INSISTING that the word "Christmas" be used in every way possible that doesn't have anything whatsoever to do with the birth of Christ. If Walmart has a "holiday sale" on paintings of Elvis in a Santa Claus suit (on black velvet, natch), then in the name of what passes for Christianity these days you'll have good intentioned people livid that Walmart is not helping to teach kids that Christmas has something to do with Velvet Santa Elvises. Hey, Walmart, don't step on my blue suede baby Jesus.

The World is filled with utter chaos, and you couldn't have said it any better.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah, Mr. Prime Minister. God bless all who attempt to travel in the path of the good regardless of religion. Thank you, dear Lord, for our bounty and help us know your will and to have the power and the strength to carry that out. Help us save this great and good country from those who would prefer a phony "fairness" to liberty.

May God bless you mightily Bibi and I pray that you may discover the truth contained in Isaiah 53.
