I have never heard Romney give as good an answer on his changing positions as he just gave on abortion. It was entirely believable, even moving.

But Chris Wallace's follow-ups were devastating to him. WOW! Especially on guns. Romney is handling it as well as possible, but Wallace's question really brought home, to conservatives, how liberal Romney was at one point on social issues. This might really hurt him in Iowa AND South Carolina.

Moving? "I studied embryonic stem cell research and became pro-life." So the abortion of an 8 month old baby in gestation isn't enough to arouse my passions or intellectual curiosity, but embryos are? Simply ludicrous and unbelievable.

Mitt Romney's mistake was not admitting up front that to win in Massachusetts politics he had to run as a liberal. Not exactly a courageous admission but then most voters are wise enough to know that most politicians have little courage. Which leads to Romney's biggest mistake. When the idea of running for public office came to him in the early 1990s, he should have de-camped from wintry Massachusetts and moved to Utah, Michigan or some other plausible state.
