Considering the lively debate I had yesterday with Jeff Lord in
which he, clearly an advocate for Newt Gingrich, said that somehow
the reluctance of some conservatives to support Christine O’Donnell
for Senate in Delaware was an equivalent betrayal to the betrayal
that occurred when Newt Gingrich supported DeDe Scozzafava over
Doug Hoffman in New York 23, this news is just too rich: Christine
O’Donnell, Jeff’s belle, has now
endorsed Mitt Romney for president. Gee, does that make Ms.
O’Donnell a betrayor of conservatives?
Hah!
For the record, in my private capacity, I do not agree with Ms.
O’Donnell’s endorsement. I also do not find it a betrayal. It’s
just a difference of opinion. I’m still waiting for Godot…. er,
for Paul Ryan or
Bobby Jindal… or for Rick Santorum to catch fire. Or, as Jay
Cost writes today, I am waiting for
a man to meet the moment.

It takes the sting out of the Gary Busey/John Rocker endorsements of Newt.

Look, at this stage of the game, the only thing that matters is Republican victories up and down the ticket. Mitt Romney can bring us numerous House wins and a Republican-majority Senate.
You Gingrich-heads, and Ron Paulists out there, are you prepared to give away the Massachusetts Senate seat to the Dems? Are you prepared to give away our opportunities of Republican Senate wins in Michigan, Connecticut, Florida, Virginia?
Are you prepared to hand the House back to Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer?
That's what we'll get with either Gingrich or Paul at the top of the ticket. Independents do not like either of these gentlemen most especially Northeasterner Independents.
And forget the Northeast. Can you imagine how much we'll get slaughtered in California races if Romney is not the nominee? Bye, bye Rohrabacher, Bilbray, Dreier, and just about all our GOP congressman left in California.
This is no longer about who is the best candidate ideologically. This is now all about who is best at the top of the ticket to deliver us Republican Victories.

Eric,
I think you are mistaken.
When an oil well blows out...they put out the flames with a huge bomb..."bluie!" (not a wet broom.)
Our country is in the midst of a communist blowout and Romney is a wet broom. Sorry.
I personally know Rick Perry knows and will utilize the proper explosives. He has done so for eleven years.
I just don't think you folks from piddly-wink States quite understand that Texas, (under Perry), has literally undergirded our whole country out of our back pocket. Without our jobs and profits on the "balance sheet", the whole damned country would be bankrupt.
I can settle for Gingrich, but Perry is the guy who has proven consistent conservative (sensible) leadership on principle AND common sense.
Remember the Alamo! Victory or death!

Sorry, those minimum wage jobs that you pay to wetbacks isn't supporting ANYONE.
Doug| 12.14.11 @ 2:27PM
Then why do all those people who lost jobs in liberal dominated states keep moving to Texas?
L. Ross| 12.14.11 @ 2:05PM
Ken:
I like Perry. He's Air Force. So am I. I think he is a fine govenor and could make a fine president. Sadly, I think most of the nation is not yet ready for another Texan in the White House. Certainly not another one who can scarely complete a sentence in a debate.
Ken (Old Texican)| 12.14.11 @ 2:32PM
L Ross,
I hear you, but here is Rick perry with some whole sentences...and having some fun at a New Hampshire fundraiser.

E D - I've been waiting for someone to make the "New England in play" case for Mitt. Is it remotely possible that he could carry anything east of NY?
As for the Senate, he'd help Brown, but I suspect it ends there - in other words how is he marginally better than the others in the upper midwest or beyond? I don't see that.
Finally, I suspect there is a huge difference between Newt and all others, in that he is at least second to Mitt in the NE (though that too might not amount to much).
I expect it will come down to the Penn-Wisc belt of states, and I don't see much Romney strength there at all. Certainly no more than the others.
Ken (Old Texican)| 12.14.11 @ 12:25PM
Quin,
I used to always look forward to your articles most of all.
Have you gone under cover?

What is Romney loses in 2012?
Bob Grant| 12.14.11 @ 1:36PM
Now that I've learned who Christine O'donnell will be endorsing for president I'm waiting with baited breath the endorsements from the remaining people:
Dog the Bounty Hunter
Eric Estrada
Brittany Spears
Verne Troyer
Chaz Bono
Flavor Flav
and last but not least...
Colin Powell

I nominate a true leader. A man who can ALWAYS out wit the enemy and triumph over evil. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you William Shatner. That's right, the man who played James Tiberius Kirk. The next president of the United States.
What's that, Jim? You're Canadian?!
All right, who's next?
Dai Alanye | 12.14.11 @ 11:43PM
Romney/Santorum. Better yet, Santorum/Romney. The combination is both sufficiently conservative and electable.
Newt lost me about five minutes after he learned he'd taken the polling lead.
