Not just an effective political leader, but THE greatest president of the 20th Century. So says (and says and says and says again) Newton Leroy Gingrich about the father of the confiscatory income tax, the author of multiple unconstitutional infringements of our liberties, and the man who attempted packing the Supreme Court.

Where in Newts record, and his 90 lifetime ACU rating is he an FDR Democrat?

Maybe, just maybe, he was referring to his winning 4 straight elections and leading american thru WW2.
to gain support for his Conservative policies he was pushing through, which he did.

The 2 political loves of the Neut's life are Woodrow Wilson and FDR. I guess the 3 of them have a lot in common. They were all adulterers, big government liberals, and chickenhawlks who loved war, as long as, they didn't get near the battle field. Don't put your childrens future in such hands. He is undependable, unreliable, and unelectable.

Georgia
missed opportunity:
Vietnam War

A virtuoso in the art of hypocrisy, the former Speaker of the House now claims the Vietnam War was a splendid idea, but at the time he opposed going himself. Newtie also speaks highly of morality, but as a serial adulterer he doesn't want to get too close."

I am still waiting for full information on the distinguished military career of Clint. I need this in order to write my article comparing him with either General Patton or General Holland Smith. It is, in part, an Army vs Marine Corp thing.

Give some help, please.

" Dr.Ron Paul served in the United States Air Force as a flight surgeon for several years (1963-1965). While in the air force, Paul reached the rank of Captain. Directly after his service in the air force, Paul worked again as a flight surgeon for the United States Air National Guard (1965-1968)."

I know some of y'all don't much care for Lew Rockwell, but there is no reason to doubt the authenticity of this report:

Some years ago, I was invited to speak at a National Review conference in the government capital. In my talk, I praised our predecessors in the Old Right, who came together in opposition to FDR's domestic fascism and drive to war. Afterwards, in the question period, up pops a furious Newt Gingrich to say, at length, that conservatives must love Roosevelt--he was Reagan's hero, after all--and that to criticize Franklin or his New Deal was to risk being written out of the conservative movement. I responded that this is exactly what's wrong with contemporary conservatism: its corporatism and militarism. I never saw Newt again, and I was not invited back.

Newt's support of FDR is a long standing thing and not just a momentary lapse. "Georgian" (Ha!) Newt is also a big supporter of Lincoln.

Recently we were talking about who is and is not a neocon and what makes neoconservatism an identifiable thing. One feature of neocons is they love them some FDR and his social safety net (and our involvement in WWII). Newt is philosophically a neocon and his love of FDR and Lincoln is one of the things that marks him as such.

Clint, Newt's home state is not Georgia. He is a carpet bagger. He grew up in Pennsylvania.

Clint| 12.14.11 @ 4:50PM

Gingrich was raised in Hummelstown and various military bases. He graduated from Baker High School in Columbus, Georgia.

Ivan| 12.14.11 @ 4:21PM

As far as I know, Lincoln was the first president to introduce the income tax, and his violations of civil right were even worse than Roosevelt's. If one's considering Lincoln to be one of the greatest American presidents is a criterion of one not being a true conservative, than I am afraid, we would be let with Ron Paul, which was not Mr Hillyer's intention, I assume...:)

It would be nice to see the full comments he made and the dates on which he made them, rather than the pieced-together, sound-bited propaganda exhibited here.

Glad to see you GOPukers punishing the Speaker of the Blouse. Who's next on the merry-go-round Iran's buddy Dr. Poop?

Bumr50| 12.14.11 @ 7:37PM

Never Romney. Take it to the bank, and feel free to blame me for another four years of Obama.

A large percentage of us out here have just as much animosity towards the GOP as we do the Dems, and so far Republicans have addressed my concerns by doubling-down on their "moderate" rhetoric. Hence Mittens.

Clint| 12.14.11 @ 7:39PM

Uh Oh, BamaBot Bobby !

"According to Gallup's Jeffrey Jones, presidents with approval ratings at 50% or higher tend to be sure bets for reelection. Those in the lower 40% range have typically lost.

Obama, then, is in a gray area. He's hovered in the low-to-mid 40% range in Gallup's daily tracking poll. He is at 46% in the Reuters poll, and 47% according to NBC News/Wall Street Journal.

"It's not clear how far below 50% you can be and still get reelected," Jones said."

Hey Hillyer....

The other day you mentioned that you don't want either Newt or Mitt...but rather Santorum, Bachman etc....

But riddle me this...

Why do your columns never REALLY hit Mitt??????

Inquiring Minds want to know....

WL| 12.15.11 @ 12:37AM

I think I want to write for Am. Spectator...

So here is my application essay:

I CANT STAND NEWT AND ROMNEY...(part 1)
I WANT SANTORUM or BACHMAN (who can't win)
THEN...I WILL DEVOTE ALL OF MY COLUMNS TO TRASHING NEWT....(no one will notice)

See...I can cut the mustard...

When do I start?

PattyMor| 12.15.11 @ 8:36AM

So Bachmann and Santorum can't win? They both have less baggage than Romney, Newt, and Perry. Both more stable than Dr. Paul and less nutty on foreign policy. And certainly more experienced and a whole lot less baggage than Lil Barry. Barry has enough baggage to fill 100 747's.
Who has the courage to use it against him?

WL| 12.15.11 @ 9:24AM

Oh, Don't worry PattyMor...

I will cast my vote for Bachmann and/or Santorum GLADLY as long as they are still in it when I cast the primary ballot on SuperTuesday...I am just afraid they won't be.

Whether that is true or not, however, I just feel like alot of our Conservative "minds" are using them as a decoy in attacking Newt....

Which is fine...but come on....am I the only one who sees that the Dems/Repubs are in a demonize Gingrich Frenzy....????????? They are all desperate to to stop him....

Why?

Everyone knows the GOLDEN RULE of American politics is this....

The dems and Repubs will scratch fight to the death over a block of Government Cheese...BUT the will unite under the same Crooked Flag every single time for one reason...

TO KEEP US OUT.

nova9047| 12.15.11 @ 1:25PM

Newt's K with A was all about dismantling his hero's New Deal regulatory state. Or is that too nuanced for those basking in Newt's newly minted aura of infallability?
