Hum...
Current year 2011.... 12 years is a long time to be gone from electoral politics. 1994-1999 is ancient political history.
Hume? ok... He's aces and one of the few leftover old guard good eggs in media. He deserves a hearing, but with an eye to what he is actually involved in, which is commentary.
Fred Barnes - Weekly Standard = In bed with Romney, not objective therefore opinion discounted appropriately -not invalid, just worth less than Hume's.
Rich Lowry- NRO = National Romney Online? And he wears Granny Bloomers to go with it...
Hugh Hewitt = Bucking for Romney's Press Secretary... total discount is 0% objectivity rating.
Ann Coulter = Bombthrower of the Eastern Establishment. They keep her around for entertainment and to provide for an extremist foil. She's a pet booga-bear of the Left and makes good money doing it as well. She's in the sock for Romney and therefore any opinion that she has regarding Gingrich... well. ZERO (She also really needs to eat some food.)
Joe Lieberman? Common!!!??? Who Cares? Joe is nice and all... but HE's a LIBERAL DEMOCRAT!!!
"Former top Staffer" has been associated with more sources for more hit pieces... Disgruntled former employees rank up there for the objectivity award, don't they?
Newt on Scoazzafava... HEY Newt was backing the ESTABLISHMENT Candidate!!! The guy does what the Elites want him to do, and then use it against him when he starts beating the snot out of their golden chosen candidate. Notice that the Dem won the seat, anyway.
The fact remains that Newt is Thousands of times better than Romney. At least Newt is a Republican in Republican's clothing... instead of weenie pretty boy Romney, who is a Liberal Democrat masquerading as a RINO.
I still would prefer that Rick Perry had Newt's oratorical skills. But then I am a fat, graying, Army Brat, History Major with a love for dreaming of great things for this nation. Guess I will have to place Newt high on my list of favored candidates.
People change... Newt looks like he has learned and Romney hasn't and neither has the Non-liberal part of the Establishment Media.
Tootles... TMF

Assuming arguendo, [that is assuming for the sake of argument} your take on Newt is dead right, assuming that all of your hysterics were called for and that we're about to go over a cliff now and forever if we even give Newt a second thought, ------------------------- assuming all that, ---------- what then?
Romney? The guy the media and Obama are preparing to tar and feather as an uncaring white guy who lined his pocket with nary a thought to the little guy, the guy that the Obama campaign is going to make answer for all of the tenets and history of Mormonism, warping a political race into a theological review of the rationality of Mormonism. The onslaught against Romney would be something that he is clearly unprepared to handle. He's been rattled by Gingrich, what do you think his response would be when the entire media is descending upon him howling for his blood?
Bachmann? Is that who you want to go with, her and her 20 some orphans, her husband the media is running rumours about, and we all know the squalid suggestions, {veritas or non veritas, nonetheless the rumours are there and we'll hear more to be sure}.
If you're for Bachmann, step front and center and so identify.
Santorum? Even his most ardent of supporters have to acknowledge that he's not resonating with Republicans, now is he? Maybe he'll wear well; maybe he's a slow starter but a strong finisher.
But is he the guy you want to go with, him and his penchant for endless moralizing about the family. I recall when Santorum gave a commencement speech at St. Joseph's University on City Line, outside of Philadelphia. All the flamers got together and made a big to do about him being supposedly "bigoted." What "bigotry" inheres in the rather self-evident assertion that such relationships are against nature is not evident to me. But others are apt to get all nervous in the service when Republicans spoke forcefully on the issue.
So is that the guy you want to saddle up with?
Huntsman is odd.
Paul more so.
So who is left?
Quin| 12.13.11 @ 12:51PM
Well, yes, of those in the field I happen to like Santorum. But there really is a chance of a late entry. Ryan? Bob McDonnell? Or how about this?: http://cfif.org/v/freedom_line.....idate-j/..
Dan| 12.13.11 @ 3:42PM
Have you ever heard Rep. Paul Ryan declaim upon foreign affairs?
It's nothing but conventional wisdom and platitudes!
As for McDonnell, where is he on foreign affairs?
Oldefarte| 12.13.11 @ 12:33PM
The essential question is WHO would you rathere have sitting in the oval office at 1600, the present occupant or Newt, Mitt, Ron, Michelle, Rick etc? That is or should be the only consideration. On 11/4/12, we have two fork-in-the-road choices, one representing survival and hopefully fiscal etc improvement, as opposed to the other of complete destruction within the next four years of this country????????????????
WL| 12.13.11 @ 12:44PM
I understand all of these folks hitting on old Newt the Poot...because if you would have told me 3 years ago he would likely be the nominee..I would have laughed...
BUT, don't these guys realize they are showing their hand a little bit here? I mean...come on....the Establishment MUST be really scared about now...
As for me...We will have MANY disappointments with Newt...but at least think about this...
Even the most "conservative" or "talented" folks in this race can't compete with some of Newts accomplishments...
I mean he was in the Kemp/Reagan accomplishments...
He drug Slick willy down the aisle to marry a fairly balanced budget...
Welfare reform....
What has Romney actually done???? ROMNEYCARE...thats what...
Above all though...my last few days have been literally ruined to see it confirmed that Beck is the fraud that he is...
I mean...come on....to use the "Racist" charge against the tea party to hurt Newt.......
Yep...as I suspected...G. Beck was in deep cover for two years...and now when they need him most....his "handlers" turned his switch to the setting we all know so well from too many over the years....BETRAYAL.
Margie| 12.13.11 @ 1:28PM
Right from the start Glenn Beck was the leader of "it's all about principle," and began bashing the Republican party~ he's the one who started the whole it's a horrible thing to even SAY you're a Republican thing.
Yeah, it's all about principle, and my principle is VOTE REPUBLICAN because I want the unrepentant Leftist Socialist dictator-in-chief out of office.
Thanks, but no thanks to a third party and especially a Ron Paul leader to that end.
That following the cult of Mormon leads to the following of other false "leaders."
Because Jesus is the only one Who can bring you to your right mind, and not another man:
"..for apart from Me you can do nothing." Jn. 15:5.
Margie| 12.13.11 @ 1:32PM
As to Newt: As I said here before recently: Who knows, maybe it is HIS TIME.
God's Will be done.
He is far better than Obama, I don't care what his past sins are.
My Motto:
BETTER A FORGIVEN REPENTANT SERIAL ADULTERER THAN AN UNREPENTANT SOCIALIST.
And I venture to say so's Romney (better than Obama).
May sanity prevail, and may we all vote for the Republican nominee the PRINCIPLE of SAVING THE COUNTRY!
Margie| 12.13.11 @ 1:33PM

Tim the Enchanter| 12.13.11 @ 1:41PM
Sorry, Quin, have to do this...
"What makes you think she is a witch?"
"Well, she turned me into a Newt!"
"A Newt?"
"... I got better!"
MyGirlFriday| 12.13.11 @ 2:13PM
O.K. Mr. Hillyer your hatchet hasn't enough of Newt's blood on it? Now you wish for us to know that you are not the only slayer of GOP candidates and Newt. What is this? Death by Numbers? The standard barriers of the Republican party and K-Street have selected Romney and now they are mad that we won't go along with their choice. It is really unbelievable to me that the same establishment and their media are more interested in slaying our own candidates. Newt may not be yours or any of those journalists you site as the perfect nominee for 2012 but by golly he will never ever sell his country out like the present occupant in the white house. If you wish for Obama to win in 2012 , just keep digging in that grave yard with your buddies you may find a few of Newt's dead dragons to revive. The good news is that you will be among friends, Democrats love boogeymen.
