Texas Governor Rick Perry took heat over the weekend for flubbing Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor's name (he called her Motomayor) and for stating there are eight justices on the Supreme Court rather than nine.

Okay, fine. He messed up.

But is Perry misnaming Sotomayor any more egregious than when President Obama referred to his then Secretary of Defense Robert Gates as William Gates back in May 2009?

Is Perry stating there are only eight justices on the Supreme Court any more egregious than when Obama said he had visited 57 states with one to go when he was campaigning in July 2008?

President Obama has also referred to corpsman as "corpse man" on more than one occasion.

Whatever his shortcomings, I don't think Governor Perry would make such a mistake.
