Obama v. Arizona

The U.S. Supreme Court will hear the Obama Justice Department's lawsuit against Arizona over SB 1070, the law that gives state and local police the power to detain suspected illegal immigrants. Justice Elena Kagan, the former solicitor general, willl recuse herself.

Former state Senate President Russell Pearce, the architect of the law, tells me he expects Arizona will prevail. "We won 5 to 3 on the E-verify case," Pearce says. "The same issues and constitutional principles are at stake here. I expect we'll win 5 to 3 again."
