Yesterday, Reid Smith
posed the question, “So what can we do for Israel?” Based on
the “seven existential threats” criteria set out by Michael Oren,
the Israeli Ambassador to the United States, Smith concludes
“there’s not a whole lot America can do for Israel that it’s not
already doing.”
I don’t entirely agree. One of the existential threats
identified by Oren is delegitimization. Oren
writes, “Since the mid-1970s, Israel’s enemies have waged an
increasingly successful campaign of delegitimizing Israel in world
forums, intellectual and academic circles, and the press.”
Well, I would argue that the Obama Administration has joined
the delegitimization campaign against Israel. Whether it’s
Obama’s open disdain of Benjamin Netanyahu, his comments about the
1967 borders and that the thought of Israel building homes in
Jerusalem was more offensive to him than Iran killing its own
people in an “election” in which Obama said we ought not to be seen
as “meddling.” The recent comments by Secretary of Defense Leon
Panetta and Ambassador Howard Gutman are also a part of the Obama
Administration efforts to delegitimize Israel.
The Obama Administration’s unbridled hostility towards to
our only true friend in the Middle East is an act of
moral cowardice. It’s bad enough that Obama wants to emulate
European social policy. Well, when you have a European social
policy then a European foreign policy is sure to follow. So what
can America do for Israel? Vote Obama out of office and replace him
with anyone except Ron Paul.
