The Trump Debate

Now that it may end up being just Gingrich, Santorum, and the Donald, it seems hard to make the case that candidates who have declined to participate have made some massive strategic error.

The Trump debate turned into the Trump Gingrich debacle.

This should prove to be very interesting. I'm anxious to see how Santorum does against Newt.

Trump has gone out of his way to criticize Ron Paul, I think because his ego was bruised when people were chanting for Ron Paul during Trump's speech at CPAC, and Paul's supporters went after Trump for his response. But I think Paul should have agreed to attend the debate. Not attending, gives the appearance, whether real or not of shunning Trump because of the birther stuff. This then gives the appearance of deliberately attempting to avoid conspiracy "taint” which I think empowers the conventional wisdom right think enforcers. Paul should have gone to the debate if for no other reason than to not be accused of not going to the debate base on Trump’s birther history if that makes any kind of convoluted sense. It looks particularly bad since Paul was one of the two earliest to decline. Huntsman was clearly looking to avoid Trump taint.

Red: declining this showboater is the best thing Non could have done. Now Perry has declined as well. It is now down to Bachman, Santorum, Gingrich and Trump. Or in other words the Moe. Larry and Curley and Ted. Ted was the original guy who put the act together. He used the stooges for fun in his vaudevill act. Ted went his own way at MGM and Moe took over as the lead guy of the Stooges.

Romney will use any excuse to avoid debating Gingrich. Perry isn't ready for prime time, and Bachman, Huntsman and Paul were never serious to begin with. They should invite Johnson ( anyone remember the non-insane libertarian?) between him, Newt and Paul it could be an interesting debate.

Antle, that is some great logic that you employ there. Yeah, like these candidates have not made huge blunders and poor decisions before. For every one of them and their handlers there are 10 talking heads that say they should go to the Trump debate. Have you considered that they may be declining because Trump has made some waves recently and again that he might run. This would be more likely the reason than it being Trump himself.
