The Spectacle Blog

Businessman Herman Cain today announced that he was suspending his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination. He plans to endorse another candidate. Cain has been rocked in recent weeks by allegations of a 13-year affair, sexual harassment, and questions about his grasp of policy details.

Cain's rise revealed a Republican Party eager to nominate a candidate to the right of Mitt Romney and demonstrated the importance of the debates. Cain was seen as honest, plainspoken, and not beholden to the establishment. He also contradicted liberal stereotypes about the Tea Party and race. Even with the problems that derailed his campaign, expect him to emerge as a larger conservative voice.

Cain's loss is Newt Gingrich's gain. Both Georgians, Gingrich will pick up many former Cain supporters. He will also have a cleaner shot at Mitt Romney. A two-man race between Romney and a Republican to his right is Romney's worst nightmare. If Gingrich stumbles, this also creates the theoretical opening for another candidate to recover, possibly Rick Perry.

Watching the IMMEDIATE rush on cable for the news organizations INCLUDING FOX to try to spin the message of media failure that CAIN highlighted to make it look all like Cain is the bad guy and media were all JUST DOING THEIR JOBS.....

What a hoot...watching the kiddies get caught with their hands in the cookie jar and trying to tell momma that they didn't do it and a space alien ate the cookies all up.

HEY MEDIA....your number is HAD...all the accusations and deviation for the REAL issues into the hit job tabloid "reporting" is all in the total open, and you can watch as you get abandoned by everyone.

FOX BETTER WATCH OUT HOW THEY SPIN THIS....ROBERTS JUST STARTED THE SPIN IN ATLANTA....AND THEY ARE MISSING WHERE THIS IS ABOUT TO GO.

FOLKS, I HAVE BEEN IN BUSINESS AS AN INVESTOR AND CEO FOR YEARS....AND CAIN IS NO DUMMY NO MATTER HOW YOU WANT TO MAKE HIM INTO AN OVERSEXED STEP AND FETCHIT NON ELITIST....BUT WATCH WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO YOU AND MITT AND THE GOP.

WATCH HERMAN GO ON THE LECTURE CIRCUIT LIKE SARAH PALIN. WATCH HIM ENDORSE NEWT. WATCH HERMAN AND SARAH COOPERATE WITH THE TEA PARTY TO SHUT DOWN THE WASHINGTON AS USUAL GROUP...WATCH JOHN BOEHNER AND MCCONNELL GET THE RASBERRY AND WATCH NEWT AND THE SUPPORT RISE TO THE TOP AS JON AND RICK AND RICK AND MICHELLE AND PAUL DISAPPEAR OFF THE SCREEN......

YOU ARE SO LEFT IN THE DUST BIN OF YOUR OWN CLEVERNESS....ROGER AILES....WATCH YOUR BOTTOM, BECAUSE YOU WILL LOSE ALL THE CONSERVATIVES IF YOU SPIN THIS

Narf!| 12.3.11 @ 4:04PM

Endorsing Newt would be the exact opposite of shutting down the Washington as usual group. Newt is the most "Washington as usual" of anyone in the race. His closest advisors are all old guard Republicans. He's also the biggest flip-flopper in the race, worse even than Romney.

Newt is the antithesis of the Tea Party movement. If Newt gets Cain's supporters, as seems to be happening, then the Tea Party is officially kaput.

Neutered Gingrich Is A Serial Traitor To Conservatism.

" With the intense search for a conservative alternative to Mitt Romney producing popularity “bubbles” for Rick Perry and Herman Cain, “Who’s next?” has been the recurring question. In an ironic twist, the consensus answer seems to be: Newt Gingrich.

I say “ironic” because the opposition to Romney has been led by conservative grassroots writers and activists, as well as groups like FreedomWorks. Gingrich isn’t much more popular among that contingent than Romney. In May, when Gingrich sharply criticized Paul Ryan’s Medicare reform plan, FreedomWorks Chairman Dick Armey reminded National Review that Gingrich had been a serial offender:

Citing Gingrich’s support of Dede Scozzafava in the 2009 congressional election in New York’s 23rd district, his backing of Medicare Part D and TARP, and his commercial with Nancy Pelosi about climate change, Armey observes that “Newt entered the race with serious ground to make up with these 2 million Tea Party activists.”…

Brendan Steinhauser, director of Federal and State Campaigns for FreedomWorks, reports that the Tea Partiers he’s talked to are “irate” at Gingrich… “I never met a single Tea Party activist that supported Newt Gingrich for president,” he adds."

Herm was and is Mr Federal Reserve. Neuter is Mr. Fannie Mae and Mr. managed heathcare. He is also Mr. chickenhawk for endless wars and endless loss of civil liberties If Sarah Palin endorses anyone but Ron Paul, I hope her libertarian hisband divorces her. If she endorsed Neuter or Romney the Tea party and all the new people brought into the party would shun her.

Jack in Wi| 12.3.11 @ 5:02PM

By the way, who was and is a bigger blowhard and has a bigger belly or fatter face Herm Goring or Neuter Gingrich?

Let's get rid of the DEVIL, Barack Hussein Obama!

Dai Alanye| 12.3.11 @ 2:37PM

Can't we simply ignore Rick Perry? He too should drop out, since it's going to take four years for us to forget his stumbles, and for him to study public speaking. The guy might (or might not) have the ability to be President, but when considering the initial build-up he's the biggest disappointment of all the candidates.

Narf!| 12.3.11 @ 4:08PM

Rick Perry dropping out wouldn't make much difference at this point. Even after Cain crashed in the polls he was still getting more support than Perry, Bachmann and Santorum combined. The stragglers will drop out soon enough, after Iowa and New Hampshire.

Bill| 12.3.11 @ 2:46PM

Rick Perry is the savior for 2012, defeating Obama in a landslide.

Narf!| 12.3.11 @ 4:10PM

This is a parody of the Paulbots, right?

Clint| 12.3.11 @ 2:49PM

Gingrich shags a House staff member, while married to another woman, divorces his wife, marries the broad he was shaggin' & rises in the polls.

Cain shags an employee, stays with his wife and gets a one way ticket to Palookaville.

I knew it was coming after the latest revelation, but it's sad in a way [my thoughts are with his wife and family and the grief which is surely involved here]. I just find it deplorable that these sleezeball Democrats are capable of political destruction from their CHICAGO WAY of politics. If it weren't for the MSM covering up their political excrements, the Democrat politicians would be brought out of their closets 24-7 and rightfully so. They covered up for Kennedy, Johnson, Clinton and Obama; but they crusify Cain. Everyone needs to cancel their newspaper subscriptions immediately!!!!!!!

serpents abound| 12.3.11 @ 4:00PM

Why do you assume that solely the Dems, the Chicago Way, and MSM are exclusively behind the Herman Cain hit/mob job? Are they the only ones capable of "sleezeball" behaviors in a campaign or political movement? I can think of a lot of people who would want Herman Cain rubbed out right now.

I can think of a really long list.
On it would be American luminaries like Louis Farakhan, Al Sharpton, many sitting big city mayors, ACLU board members, NAACP leadership, Southern Poverty Law boys, and Jesse Jackson.

But as I said. This list is long. AND it has card carrying GOP members ('in good standing')on it.

Oldefarte| 12.4.11 @ 3:37PM

Wait, am I understanding that your long listing of persons/entities ['....I can think of a really long list.
On it would be American luminaries like Louis Farakhan, Al Sharpton, many sitting big city mayors, ACLU board members, NAACP leadership, Southern Poverty Law boys, and Jesse Jackson.....'] etc are not all DEMOCRATS or that the CW is somehow not of the Democratic Party? Are you claiming that the MSM is somehow supportive of the Republican Party? If you are possibly claiming thus, I'd certainly like to sample what you are most probably smoking. Either that, or you're completely insane [and I hope it's the former] !!!!!!!

Mimi| 12.3.11 @ 4:37PM

My question....WHO PUT UP THE MONEY ?
For Ginger...And the Gloria Alred gal....They both were in need of Rent monies....It cost somebody some bucks....WHO ? The news media better go after the TRUTH and come up with the answers....if they drop this story...We'll all know their motive....just do the Dem's a favor and get Herman gone for the "O" s sake.
Somehow the truth always show up...You just don't destroy a Black Republican , very near to being nominated this way....Somehow I can't see Herman Cain being this deviant at all. Who paid out the MONEY ?????

Oldefarte| 12.4.11 @ 3:40PM

You might wish to question someones in Chicago by the names of Axelrods or Emmanuels perhaps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jane| 12.3.11 @ 3:38PM

I'm saddened by Cain's decision but now I will fully support John Huntsman. He's tall and handsome, looks so sexy in a polo shirt and has the gravitas to be President.

Paul Bot| 12.4.11 @ 12:24PM

Good luck with that. Are you the Jane from SNL? You seem kind of ignorant and well ...

They have got to stop going negative on these candidates Simon.... I'm getting sick reading all the comments....There will never be a HUMAN BEING perfect enough for some of these readers...God give me a BREAK!!!

Paul Bot| 12.4.11 @ 12:33PM

I think they believe they are clever herders. Hillyer likes Santorum but I have no idea who Antle likes. I am beginning to think Obama. It is always odd when someone won't tell you who they like just but show a hearty willingness to take the ax to the highest tree. When we get through feeding on all our flawed candidates we can ponder four more years of what must be the perfect Obama. Nice job Jim iii, good work.

Oldefarte| 12.4.11 @ 3:43PM

Your thesis will become true if the STUPIDS of this country duplicate their 11/4/08 insanity by once again Lewinsking the H&C bullexcrement [instead of voting for the nominated Republican candidate]; and all of us should begin planning to immigrate to Greenland!!!!!!!!!

President Reagan Had many talks with Ron Paul and said if he had Done what Dr.Ron Paul we would had spared over a million lives.President Reagan endorsed Doc.Ron Paul and was the only person President Ronald Reagan ever endorsed 2012 Election will be the future of America for Liberty. But not Just for America but peace from talks Not Guns forced And Drama brought to other”s .google Ron Paul or YouTube * We must Vote For a President with out Baggage * We all have to think about the world not just America

Brendan| 12.3.11 @ 7:25PM

Woah! Scott, they invented proper punctuation for a reason.... ;-)

I think its sad that Mr. Cain has dropped out. He was the first to push an economic plan. He was always positive on what America can do.

I have said that any one of these candidates would be better than Obama (yes, even Ron). They all love America. But its sad to see conservatives, who need to look at the big picture, fighting among themselves.

America will be alright if we conservatives stick together and keep in mind that its just as important to support conservatives at the congressional level. We didn't get here in a day, and we won't get out with one president.

Cain is gone.

It's good fro America. good for GOP.

bill| 12.3.11 @ 7:44PM

Had Herman Cain won the GOP race, he would have lost to Obama in a landslide. His babies would have come forward and have destroyed his bid, making Obama a shoe-in president..................
