Is Occupy Boston Next?

Yesterday, the liberal Democrat mayors of Los Angeles and Philadelphia ordered their police departments to clear Occupy encampments in their respective cities.

Could Boston be the next major city with a liberal Democrat administration which rids itself of the Occupiers? Boston Mayor Tom Menino said, "I want to have the tools to remove them from the Dewey Square area."

The Menino Administration didn't seem to be any hurry to evict the Occupiers but earlier this month the Board of Directors of the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy sent a letter to Menino asking him to remove them. Dewey Square is part of the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy. However, more recently the City of Boston has prohibited Occupiers from bringing "winterization equipment" into Dewey Square. Two weeks ago, Occupy Boston won a temporary restraining order against eviction but they are due to meet in court tomorrow.

Frankly, it would not surprise me if the judge sided with Occupy Boston. Let's consider the fact that the Occupy LA and Occupy Philadelphia were outside their respective city halls. Let's also consider what I wrote about Occupy Boston after the NYPD cleared Zuccotti Park earlier this month:

As of this moment, the Occupy Boston camp at Dewey Square remains. This isn't totally surprising. The difference between Occupy Boston and some of the other Occupy movements is that Occupy Boston hasn't been quite as disruptive. While Dewey Square is situated in Boston's Financial District across the street from both the Federal Reserve and South Station, they aren't really impeding anybody from going to work nor are there nearby residents to be disturbed by their noise. You wouldn't know they were here unless you went looking for them.

The judge might very well take that into consideration in tomorrow's ruling. We shall see.

UPDATE: Occupy Boston isn't going anywhere - for now. Suffolk Superior Court Judge Frances McIntyre may wait until December 15th to issue her ruling.

Boston Mayor Tom Menino said, "I want to have the tools to remove them from the Dewey Square area."
Dear Mr. Mayor:
Of course we all know that having the right tools for a particular job is essential.
I checked with your local PD and you should be comforted in knowing that they have the requisite "tools" to accomplish the task at hand. They're called ASPs, TAZERs and dogs. Should Boston's finest desire a backup plan, I'm sure the fire department would be able to deliver a clean sweep with just one of their engines cum hoses.

You needn't thank me now. Just getter done.
