Cain actually gave a good answer to the question.
jj| 11.16.11 @ 11:46AM
The thing to keep in mind is how we've all been lied to and the media gives him a pass. It's not possible this idiot is as educated as they tell us he is. Listen how he stumbles. Listen to the number of times he says uh in this short clip.
rn| 11.17.11 @ 2:38AM
For him the word "to" is always pronounced something close to "ta."
Back in junior high I had to eat blackboard chalk for that.
SilentCalvin| 11.16.11 @ 11:47AM
You assume he made a mistake by referring to Hawaii as Asia. The man grew up in Hawaii, and he knows full well any political implication in how it is referred to. Better for people to quit underestimating him.
Wayne| 11.17.11 @ 9:08AM
He probably has already given it away to China.
Bob K.| 11.16.11 @ 12:40PM
For all practical purposes it is in Asia and Vancouver, BC is too!
vtwin | 11.16.11 @ 1:08PM
W or Palin would never have got away with it...
Wayne| 11.17.11 @ 9:09AM
And conservative bloggers who have blasted Palin also unfortunately.
Occam's Tool| 11.16.11 @ 2:35PM
It is quite possible he is exactly as educated as people say he is. Attorneys are not that bright, folks. Clever, yes. Evil? Most. Bright? No.
Wayne| 11.17.11 @ 9:09AM
I bet his IQ is no more than 100.
PattyMor| 11.16.11 @ 3:27PM
These "slips" are intentional. Politican carefully pick their words for a certain effect. Probably just another slam of his country.
albert constantine jr.| 11.16.11 @ 4:03PM
Who knew that the A in USA actually stood for Asia? Perhaps this solves the mystery of states 51-57.
State 50-Hawaii
State 51-American Samoa
State 52-Guam
State 53-Japan
State 54-Korea
State 55-The Philippines
State 56-Indonesia
State 57-Brunei
Such a pattern of annexation would also allow enough electoral votes that could carry Mr. Soetoro over the line again in 2012, given the likely voter preferences in States 56 & 57, and the strong possibility that he would carry at least the North of State 54 may be a clue on what he's trying to accomplish.
Leah| 11.18.11 @ 2:44PM
This is just terrific, Mr. Constantine!!! So on-the-mark and yet an all around overview of the man. It needs publicity! How about trying to get it on the air as a campaign ad?
DRed| 11.16.11 @ 4:45PM
Obviously, he plans on giving Hawaii to the Chinese to pay off our debts. Put the pieces together.
SilentCalvin| 11.16.11 @ 7:11PM
It's not that. There is a huge separatist movement in Hawaii and differentiating it from the US is like catnip for Marxists. Hawaii state law is practically legalized Jim Crow when you think about it - natives vs. 'Americans'. We are going to give Taiwan to the Chinese to pay off our debts. Hawaii is just going to be alienated for the purpose of kowtow.
SilentCalvin| 11.16.11 @ 7:13PM
Notice the lack of outrage from Hawaii. Can you think of another state not reacting - Congressmen demanding apologies, etc. when it is referred to, even accidentally, as not being culturally American?
rn| 11.17.11 @ 2:48AM
SilentCalvin, although I agree with you, well, I also disagree. (You'll understand)
In the Southwest (think New Mexico and lots of border counties) I don't think I'd hear much outrage -- depending on just how it was phrased -- if a politician used a more latin culture reference when speaking of that location and its people.
Goodness. As far north as Pueblo, Colorado. Granted, I have no idea how it is now. But 25 years ago, growing up not so far away, well, that was not a place for a non latino to be.
Le Cracquere| 11.16.11 @ 5:17PM
I'm not real sympathetic to the President, but am giving him the benefit of the doubt here. As a whole, if one must associate Polynesia with any of the seven continents, one would probably pick Asia. That'd include Hawaii. In fact, Hawaii is to the west of SEVERAL Polynesian islands that I've always thought of as Asian.
If the Philippines were still a U.S. territory, it wouldn't change the fact that it's pretty much an Asian island group ... even if it became a state.
Wayne| 11.17.11 @ 9:13AM
Sorry, he was born in Hawaii and largely raised in Hawaii. Ignorance is no excuse. It was the Asia AND Pacific conference he was attending. He is just mentally challenged.
Quit thinking of Polynesian islands as Asian. Its ignorant.
Zack| 11.17.11 @ 1:53PM
I have to agree. Geographically, Hawaii is as much part of Asia as it is North America. Doesn't mean it's not part of the United States of America, though.
Carrie| 11.17.11 @ 4:15PM
Does this mean Alaska is part of Canada?
Occam's Tool| 11.16.11 @ 5:47PM
Actually, the term usually given to that is Australasia.
bluecollarbytes| 11.16.11 @ 7:18PM
Obama likely aligns himself with whatever small Hawaiian-independence groups are out there.
Spirit Crusher| 11.16.11 @ 8:02PM
This man is without a doubt the dumbest SOB to ever serve in the White House. Disgraceful.
gf| 11.16.11 @ 8:54PM
It appears that his teleprompter missed the flight.
Richard Baker| 11.16.11 @ 9:35PM
Well, he stays in character. 57 states? Navy Corpseman? There's probably a good reason he keeps his academic record secret. This guy wouldn't qualify for a "gentleman's C." He received an Education? Must have been in Marxism as he's about as dumb as a box of rocks.
Occam's Tool| 11.17.11 @ 9:07PM
The Harvard School of Education provided fluff courses to improve HLS students' GPAs. Well over 50% of HLS graduates graduate Cum Laude or higher. In 'Bummer's class, it was 75%.
In the USA, the Med School honor rate is 15% of the class who can make AOA.
ragtime| 11.17.11 @ 2:42AM
With the number of Asians I see milling about now who are just part of the everyday woodwork here, well, the lower 48 is part of Asia, right?
So I don't hear any error in the president's remarks.
My niece's college classes are about 70% Asians. Walking into her college library on Saturday afternoon, I saw a library population of about 80% Asian.
albert constantine jr.| 11.17.11 @ 9:10AM
If you saw them at the library, there's a good chance that they were studying, not partying or socializing. I would also venture that a significant majority were studying math, physics, engineering, etc. instead of French Literature, "Womyn's Studies" or pre-law.
Occam's Tool| 11.17.11 @ 9:05PM
Yup. The joke was that UCLA stood for University of Caucasians Lost among Asians. In my Medical School, we had so many Vietnamese that we used to joke about the "Brothers Nguyen (as opposed to Grimm)."
But you know? They study hard and do well. If 100% of the college class is Asian, then the others should start studying. Those are the type of kids I want in my colleges and my country.
I belong to a minority group that had a lot of quotas rigged against them to keep them out because they were too damn good. Sorry, but America is for the Best, and should want to encourage them.
Interestingly, in Australia and New Zealand, "Asians" (from Korea and China) have a completely different rep than they do here. Shocked the crap out of me.
1ConservativeUSA| 11.17.11 @ 11:25AM
Obama's "Asia" quote is worse than just a flub.
If you agree with Dinesh D'Souza's premise in his book, "The Roots of Obama's Rage", that Obama is he is a fierce anti-colonialist, then you may deduce that Obama does not consider Hawaii a US state.
idt| 11.17.11 @ 6:53PM
u know the article about cars driving themselves is very one minded u r still the driver u r still telling the car where to go, how to get there, how many stops to make etc. I dont c how u would rather b a butler in the front seat wen u could b a king in the back seat, maybe on ur laptop or doing somethin other than driving plus it would make the whole driving experience a whole lot safer right now they have the technology for it so u better get ready for it cause its gonna happen just dont know wen.
Doug| 11.27.11 @ 2:27AM
Mr. President,
I choose who I share my bounty with, not you. I have no problem with helping those who can't help themselves through no fault of their own . . . that's the American way.
I have a major problem with young men and women who are perfectly capable of getting a job, but refuse to take the responsibility of getting an education, (as Donald Trump said) taking a bath, and getting out there and finding that job. Don't even think for one moment they have a right to anything I've worked for.
They have no right to anything except to discover they deserve to be totally and personally responsible for the consequences of their lack of preparation.
We have no duty to support ablebodied people who refuse to support themselves. And those who break the law are not helping the situation; they're makeing it worse . . . for themselves and for everybody else.
I have a very horrible feeling this president is capable of igniting a riot. I also believe he is capable of using such an event to declare martial law, of suspending civil rights and future elections, and install himself as an unelected president. I pray that never happens; but, I believe he is truly capable of stooping that low.
