Actually, your article would have been better directed to the acolytes of big government, not the Tea Party or conservatives.

You claim that "Chief among those liberties is the freedom of commerce backed by the sanctity of contract, without the threat of confiscation."

One has only to look at the last two years under Obama who has dictated rules to the private sector, wiped out private wealth with government edict and bailed out banks and auto makers allowing and encouraging them to violate written contracts.

The Tea Party doesn't need a lecture. They observed what had to be done and did it.

The leadership of the Republican Party abhors them and the leadership of the Democratic Party finds them humorous or racist.

If Andrew Jackson were alive today he would invade Washington, D.C. believing it to have been occupied by liars, cheats and traitors.

We are at a tipping point in our society and the political establishment from both parties continues to lie to the public about the cuts necessary to stave off disaster.

There is no high ground to take because Washington D.C. INC. is nothing but a sewer.

For their attempts to clean the sewer the Tea Party remains under attack.

It must be remembered that the tea party is simply a movement within the [mostly] Republican Party. The HIGH GROUND that they have taken will hopefully extrapolate all Republicans and independents to ban together to defeat the Democrats in November of next year. Otherwise, the socialism of the Brits-like Democratic Party and its current president will doom this country to complete destruction economically, politically etc. The FRONTAL ASSAULT of the Democrats' November 2008 victory will represent an end to the war by their destruction of our capitalistic and Judeo-Christian former existence!!!!!!!!

Amen to Bill's comment.

It is the Romney folk that need to fall in line, as we "Tea Partiers" are the ones that are defending America.

Perhaps you should reexamine the analogy, and your position in it, before presuming to lay down a piece of history as a form of "education" for us rubes.

We are far more formidable, enlightened, and emboldened than I think that you surmise.

We know where we stand.

You are right Mr. Hillyer...

There are always lessons to be learned from battles such as the one in New Orleans....

Lesson #1 Pick a spot of ground that offers the best possible advantage in the time that you have available...and defend it by any means necessary....hold it...and win.

I sure wish the establishment boys you love would learn this....

The are always telling us to retreat because better ground is to be found in our continuous RETREAT.

You can't WIN that way QUIN!

Been to Chalmette Plantation when I lived in New Orleans. The actual battlefield isn't very large as battlefields go but the Brits under General Pakenham, who was killed in the battle, came on with their bagpipes a-playing and got hammered by Jackson and his pirates, Indians, citizens of New Orleans, and slaves. America is an IDEA which motivated them then and should be in us, now. When I hear the whiners in our society decry everything since Day 1 of this Republic, I tell them, as Ken Hamlin's book title said "Pick a Better Country."

He led us down to Cypress Swamp
The ground was low and mucky
There was John Bull in all his pomp
And here stood old Kentucky
