The Spectacle Blog

During last week’s G-20 Summit in Cannes, President Obama and French President Nicolas Sarkozy were overheard discussing their mutual disdain for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Apparently, Obama and Sarkozy were still wearing microphones when Sarkozy said, “I cannot bear Netanyahu, he’s a liar.” To which Obama replied, “You’re fed up? I have to deal with him everyday.”

I suppose Obama and Sarkozy think Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is a peach and Hamas to be a largely secular organization with fine, upstanding gentlemen in its ranks.

It’s too bad that Obama and Sarkozy don’t save their disdain for Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the Mullahs in Iran. Well, with friends like these who needs enemies?

Both the Sark and Our Kenyan President will soon be out of office.

hc| 11.8.11 @ 12:54PM

Hopefully that is true.
You said it right - Kenyan President - this man is the liar.
Netanyahu is an honest man.
What do you think will happen to America is she does not support Israel?

The bottom line is the supposed Leaders of the Western Word are a frightening joke.

Obama, Sarkozy, Berlusconi, Cameron, are no more suitable to lead than you or I. Andrea Merkel is the only competent one of the bunch and that should tell you all you need to know.

apnep| 11.8.11 @ 8:51AM

Now Obama, take your comment and multiply it by 14 trillion and that's how the American people feel about you! YOUR fed up? We have to deal with YOU everday!!!!

Maria| 11.8.11 @ 8:59AM

They just spoke the truth. Nothing antisemetic. Just their opinion of a man who is obnoxious and a threat to peace.

Bob Grant| 11.8.11 @ 9:18AM

As opposed to the leaders of Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah, Syria, and other assorted benign leaders of the area.

hc| 11.8.11 @ 1:03PM

America - the time has come to change this administration. Why are true Americans not upset by what this administration is doing. Obama wants to destroy this country and its citizens are just sitting back, wringing their hands, or are too apathetic to actually stand and be counted. There is NO integrity in this administration - PERIOD.

JR| 11.8.11 @ 9:53AM

Really Maria? Nothing antisemetic? You have to be the dumbest person on earth to believe that or just a nazi. My guess a little of both.

Tina B| 11.8.11 @ 10:53AM

Oh really, Israel is a threat to OUR peace? oh Maria, you are brainwashed.

Every head of State must be obnoxious when their country is surrounded by those who claim it has no right to exist. By those who actively engage in suicide bombings to murder innocent citizens in the nation's capitol?

Obnoxious? Now smugness is obnoxious, mr POTUS. Ignorance in a smug elitist is obnoxious. Benjamin Netanyahu is fighting for the life of his country. He's allowed to be a tough guy, with the background to prove it.

hc| 11.8.11 @ 12:58PM

yes - spoken truthfully - well said!!!

hc| 11.8.11 @ 12:55PM

Only a stupid and ignorant person would make such a comment.

Ross Kaminsky | 11.8.11 @ 10:28AM

Interesting...the first story I read on this translated slightly differently and made it sound as if Obama acknowledged Sarkozy's opinion without necessarily sharing it. The translation Aaron uses makes it sound like Obama was agreeing with Sarkozy.

I could imagine either being true.

Anyway, it's not as if Israel actually considered France an ally so in that sense this is not news.

Tom Borchelt| 11.8.11 @ 11:12AM

All this really means is what Israel already knows. You cannot count on either the US or the Euro weenies when you need them. Re-enforces the need to act on Iran independently

hc| 11.8.11 @ 12:56PM

absolutely - go get 'em

Dan| 11.8.11 @ 11:15AM

Interesting little tete-a-tete.

I'm very interested in what supposed "lies" Netanyahu uttered.

Dixie Pixie| 11.8.11 @ 1:35PM

The really interesting factoid is the MSM journalists took a oath of silence and signed non-disclosure documents to deliberately conceal what was over-heard.
If you ever wondered if the MSM serves the Ruling Class Elite or the Public, you now have definitive proof.

This is coming from a website known as the American Spectator? Obama can diss whoever he wants, he is the American President. Sarkozy can diss whoever he wants as well. These leaders are not leaders of Israel so it shouldn't matter. If this matters to American politicians then they are probably nothing more than agents for Israel as they would rather shame the United States over another country known as Israel. This isn't even a conspiracy theory anymore but a reality. There seems to be a government hijack in progress now to benefit Israel. What a shame.
