Herman Cain appeared on Fox News this morning, and stated flatly that he has never sexually harassed anyone. He also said, though, that he was falsely accused of sexual harassment while at the National Restaurant Association:

That this strong denial comes so late in the news cycle is one more example of the Cain campaign missing something a traditional campaign would be all over.

True :(

Typical, typical, typical.
Ye olde sexual harassment charge to bring down a good man.
It happens to the best of us.
Right, Ken?

The story just broke yesterday, ass. What the hell are you talking about? Lawler, I suggest you move over to Politico, bucking for a job there?

Redacted| 10.31.11 @ 12:59PM

Simon, Simon, Simon. The Cain campaign knew about the story TEN DAYS ago from Politico. They had that long to prepare a response.

Cain, of course, knew from the beginning that the allegations had been made, and a settlement reached. He could have disclosed this to his closest advisors so that the team would have a response ready go to in the very likely event that the story was uncovered.

Who's your second choice?

Redacted| 10.31.11 @ 1:19PM

And ... that didn't take long. Cain's story is already falling apart. He said he didn't respond to Politico's initial attempts to get a response (starting ten days ago) because they wouldn't give him a name and it was just an anonymous allegation. Now it turns out that they did give him a name and the smoking man has confirmed that they did.

Give him the benefit of the doubt that the allegations were false, and the cash settlement was just to save legal fees and nothing more. Even so, Cain had to know this was likely to come out. To be so completely unprepared, to be unable to prepare with more than a week's warning, and then to handle the situation so poorly ...

SpiralArchitect| 10.31.11 @ 2:05PM

With a POTUS that has a lenghtly list of un-American actions & many treasonaous activities (on the cusp of a second term!) you ask 'who is your second choice?' over an allegation?

You are hearby formally advised to re-insert your head.

Redacted| 10.31.11 @ 2:19PM

The POTUS ... and also Bill Clinton since that's probably your back-up excuse ... have nothing to do with this. If you want to win this election pick someone who can talk without putting his foot in his mouth and who can run at least a half-decent campaign. If you don't care about winning continue making excuses for your preferred loser.

Truth to Power| 10.31.11 @ 3:11PM

Who is your man, Redacted?

Simon Templar| 10.31.11 @ 3:14PM

It was not until yesterday that the story broke through unto the national level and into the general public domain. Actually, it was smart to say nothing until then and he did have a prepared answer the following day on FOX. Doing otherwise would have given more hot air to this baloon.

The Cain campaign knew many months before this as it was reported that he was upfront with his top people and told them it would be coming.

The story was a piece of journalistic trash. Hearsay, no substantiation, no details, no open and identifiable sources, nothing of any substance was offered. Jakasses like yourself and the author were quick to wring everything you could out of it.

I would be saying the exact same thing if it were Ron Paul, Perry, or any of the others. If Ron Paul was smeared like this, I would defend him as well.

As far as my earlier comment on the Paulbots, I would like to clarify. Not ALL supporters of Ron Paul are Paulbots, the two are not equatable. I was speaking only of the select few that come to this site that do the man a terrible injustice with their childish, moronic, and offensive attacks and divisive comments.

If Cain had been sitting there with bated breath and a team of advisors, the very second this crap hit the public toilet for consumption, it would have mattered nothing in the least. You would still have written exactly the same.

Go away, Troll.

Were is gal pals white or black? If they were white the Tea Terds will go b-serk. Didn't he say what the definition of is is just like my beloved President Bill. History does indeed repeat itself.

Truth to Power| 10.31.11 @ 1:20PM

Bob is projecting again.

Occam's Tool| 10.31.11 @ 1:03PM

Ok, folks. The women both won a settlement---in the 5 figure range---between 10,000-100,000. Suppose $25-50 K apiece. This is to settle a nuisance claim that would cost a lot more in court costs would it be allowed to proceed.

Bubba had to settle for $700,000 with Paula.

So the answer: 1) support "loser pays." 2) Settlements that low do not indicate an overwhelming case.

Simon Templar| 10.31.11 @ 3:17PM

Yes, and more details are emerging. They were fired and made these claims in retaliation for being fired and after being fired.

Occam's Tool| 10.31.11 @ 4:06PM

As usual, Simon, you are a Saint. Beautiful, beautifully done.

If this happened to Ron Paul I would be laughing my ass off. But I wouldn't care about it much, as I have sufficient reason to despise him.

Clint| 10.31.11 @ 5:32PM

That's Because You're A Screwball Israel Firster Maniac,Tool Job.

You're The Guy,Who Said He'd Vote For Romney.

Clint| 10.31.11 @ 5:43PM

" Politico reported that at least two unnamed women complained about "sexually suggestive behavior" by Cain to colleagues and senior officials at the National Restaurant Association.

The story said the association paid the women, who were not named in the story, to leave the organization. The women were also barred from discussing their departures."

John Navratil| 10.31.11 @ 9:26PM

Clint,

...until they are paid more than the settlement.

Clint| 11.1.11 @ 8:07AM

Agreed.

John Navratil| 10.31.11 @ 9:34PM

Occam's Tool,

At least when Clinton was accused of sexual harassment we had an accuser and a specific allegation. Then we had Clinton working to keep her from her day in court - that's what he ultimately paid for.

We will see where this story goes, but at this point there is Nada, Caca, Nichts! It's Cain's to (mis)manage.

Kingofthenet| 10.31.11 @ 1:09PM

and Herman released video of the 'alleged' incident:

Yes it is important to leave all of this campaign stuff and running for office to the professionals because we all know that has worked out flawlessly hasn't it...

JHWB was great wasn't he and Dole a remarkable candidate and leader, and who can forget how well McCain managed his message with the suspension of his campaign to go to DC. Yes the professional next in line chosen by the inside the beltway professionals have managed message and policy so well for the country.

SpiralArchitect| 10.31.11 @ 2:06PM

It is very nice to see the GOP tear down their slim chances at the WH in '12 ...if youre a liberal.

"That this strong denial comes so late in the news cycle is one more example of the Cain campaign missing something a traditional campaign would be all over. "

Some people just can't resist taking shots at the Cain campaign.

I'm beginning to detect a note of jealousy from supporters of other candidates who can't seem to get any traction at all! Another Cain dominated news cycle, with the concensus being that Politico came at Cain with some pretty thin gruel.
