Diversity Under Sharia?

In response to my post yesterday on Sharia law in the United Kingdom concerning the status of women, John Guardiano reiterates Reid Smith’s argument that Sharia law means different things to different Muslims. But it’s rather difficult to have a proper discussion of the most elementary tenets of Sharia if we fail to acknowledge there is no equality before the law. Smith failed to mention the status of women so I did.

Now Guardiano argues that Sharia law is practiced differently the world over and there’s a kernel of truth to that. While the Pashtunwali in Afghanistan and Pakistan stone women to death for adultery, Muslim women in Malaysia are merely caned for sex outside of marriage. So I guess you could call that diversity under Sharia. But I defy him, Smith or anyone else to show me a Sharia court anywhere in the world where a woman’s word is worth the same as that of a man.

As for the B110 bus in Brooklyn, when Sumathi Reddy of The Wall Street Journal asked the Hasidim aboard the bus if it was a rule that women sit in the back one of them replied, “It’s not a rule; it’s a rule amongst us.” Indeed, as Reddy’s article further notes, this rule does not have the force of law and is being investigated by both New York City Commission on Human Rights and the New York City Transportation Department.

Across the pond, however, the Sharia court rulings have the force of law even if it contravenes British law which is why Baroness Cox introduced legislation in the House of Lords to remedy this situation. Yet what is more troublesome is some British Muslims want Sharia law to apply to Muslims and non-Muslims alike and have taken to disseminating leaflets in certain neighborhoods which state, “You are entering a Sharia controlled zone. Islamic rules enforced.”

To put it all in perspective, when was the last time you walked into Williamsburg seeing a leaflet which read, “You are entering a Lubavitch controlled zone. Please keep kosher?”

Let me get this straight. You are saying that certain "lesser breeds without the law" (Kipling) have a law of their own and they are imposing it on the rest of us? That's crazy. It can't possibly be happening. In Great Britain? The source of our civilization? Come on, don't exaggerate. Erudite specialists like Smith and the other scholar, the one with the Italian name, are looking at it with worldly perspective, with depth and understanding. They want us to appreciate the "other", sympathize with their mores and customs, view them as co-equal with ours. You, brutishly, think we are dealing with woman haters. Just because they beat their women does not mean they hate them. I am told their tradtion includes the nugget, "Beat your wife [or wives?] daily. Even if you don't know what she did to deserve it, she does." Now that's the kind of people, according to Smith and Guardiano, who deserve to be understood, not demonized, and how can we, coming from a liberal and tolerant nation, object to that? And on a related point, has anyone done a systematic study of pederasty in Afghanistan and Pakistan (in the Middle East you don't even need a study to know boy-rape is the norm, and amongst our allies in the Gulf there is a well known practice of importing small boys to serve as jockeys and you-know.) But, Mr. Aaron, you pal Smith is trying to look at the cold foreign policy reality. Maybe we have to do business with a culture -- I dasn't call it a civilization, though Prof Huntington, ever the Boston gentleman, does -- of child molesting sex perverts. And your man Guardiano is simply harking back to his origins and saying que sera sera and let's be real, they are just a few miles offshore from Sicily. Can't afford to offend them, can we? Face it, Goldstein, you can't win this one. We are surrounded on all sides by appeasers of Islam -- even the dreaded neocons were afraid to call the enemy by his name, and how many times did their favorite president, the great much missed George W., apologize for using the word crusade? And insist we are not at war with Islam? Who are we at war with, by the way? Bearded guys who rape little boys? I'm sure your interlocutors in this fascinating discussion will find a way to tell us it ain't necessarily so.

Just down from my mother's home, in Anytown, USA, a muslim girl was killed by her father and brothers for daring to date a non-muslim boy.

Isn't diversity via mass immigation great?

Sharia is here because of mass immigration. Reduce immigration and we'll see a reduction in Sharia, in Spanish language, in identity theft, in income tax evasion.....shall I continue?

A tip of the ball cap to you. You called the Cards as taking it all. I didn't think you were anywhere close, but you've got some bragging rights coming.

If all parties involved in an issue agree, I guess Sharia may be used in the way that non-judicial arbitration is. However, it's decision should never be allowed to violate the civil or criminal law. Our courts otherwise should take no notice of it and not use it for legal guidance.

How about the Muslim who decapitated his wife after she told him she wanted a divorce? Or the running over of their children because the children became too Westernized. The 3rd World Hoards are here and are inside the gates. We can thank Prez Johnson for this.

You would not see signs in Williamsburg toting a Lubavitch controlled zone. Williamsburg is where the Satmar Chasidim are centered. You would have to go to Crown Heights for the Lubavitch controlled zones.

Informed rational freedom loving people have all the reasons in the world to fear islam. The twin fogs of political correctness & ignorance must be dispersed before western society better understands this menace. Even a brief review of islamic theology & history quickly exposes the deadly roots of this evil ideology.

Mohamhead was a 7th century murdering warlord who rose to power on a river of blood surrounded by thugs and gangsters using intimidation, violence, deception and trickery to expand their criminal empire while mercilessly suppressing and killing their opponents and enriching themselves on stolen booty.

The evil koran is a collection of sayings and speeches by this diabolical madman claiming divine guidance from some mythical sky-god which has inspired generations of crazed fanatics to abhorrent behavior resulting in historys worst ever crimes against humanity starting 1400 years ago and still continuing even today.

Islam is just another fascist totalitarian ideology used by power hungry fanatics on yet another quest for worldwide domination and includes all the usual human rights abuses & suppression of freedoms.
