Jennifer Rubin has a bracing analysis of the state of the GOP
race,
here. Her biggest point is that Rick Perry again stepped all
over himself, and that his candidacy is imploding before our eyes.
(Hmmm…. if he drops out, that releases Jindal to run, doesn’t
it?) Maybe he should read the Tea (Party) leaves like Tim Pawlenty
did, and vamoose. Rubin also noted Herman Cain’s continuing gaffes,
along with Mitt Romney’s oh-so-Romney-like refusal to take a stand
on Ohio Gov. John Kasich’s labor (anti-union boss) initiative
today. Does Romney actually ever believe in anything other than his
own “viaibility”? Jeesh!!!
Anyway, again, Jennifer is
well worth reading.

Quin - you're obsessed with Jindal because............he's isn't Caucasian. So easy to spot your neocons. Obsessed with mass immigration in order to "prove" we're not all RACISTS!!
Jindall is ok but good luck getting more than eight people to come out and see him deliver a speech.
The race is far from over and more than likely, someone unexpected will enter the race.
Cam O. Milety| 10.25.11 @ 5:57PM
If "someone unexpected" is going to enter the race, and they hope to win Florida's electoral votes, they need to file before 10/31. Or at least that was the filing deadline that was allegedly a hard deadline for Palin's decision.
Maybe in some perfect world Perry would look deep within himself and realize that he's out of his league, but I suspect introspection isn't his strong suit and in any case he has enough money to stay in to the bitter end.
Cain is holding on surprisingly well considering how bad the 999 thing is and how often he's put his foot in his mouth. Newt's coming up in the polls. The idea of a Lincoln/Douglas style debate between Newt and Cain is awesome, although whoever said it probably favors Newt more was right.
PattyMor| 10.25.11 @ 6:14PM
We already have good candidates. And its too late for anyone else to jump in. So get over it and pick one of those running.
I like Mr. Cain. Is he Mr. Perfect? No, but he's conservative and can learn what he doesn't know.
And you know what? He doesn't have to defend any votes? So he can attack Obama's records with impunity.

So why the obsession?

"During subsequent testimony, Former CIA director R. James Woolsey said the CIA is convinced China also is relying on its friends in Israel to assist in developing advanced engines for the next generation of Chinese combat vehicles. He said also that China will rely on Israeli expertise to create sophisticated airborne radar that employs super-secret technology that has been entrusted to Israel for another multibillion dollar joint project-production in Israel of the Arrow missile defense program which also has been funded largely by the United States.
“[These are] systems,” concluded Woolsey in his testimony, “the Chinese would have difficulty producing on their own.” Now it appears that, thanks to Israeli transfer of highly classified U.S. military technology, the Chinese have done just that, setting off alarm bells among China’s neighbors, and America’s allies, all around the rim of Asia."
Aaaand,
" Israel’s Lavi fighter-bomber was designed to be one of the deadliest weapons in the air. However, it now has been revealed that after Israel discontinued the largely U.S.-funded project, it sold China the plans for the Lavi and the associated secret U.S. technology. This has enabled the Chinese to build their own version of this new generation of fighter aircraft."
Bob Grant| 10.25.11 @ 8:31PM
This technology is not "new". True, it's adequate for Israeli defense purposes but not much is needed in that part of the World. Israel makes a little profit by selling this "new" technology to the Chinese where the US hopes they invest heavily (i.e., waste their money) in it.
See how the game is played?

LOL...at that irrational position because no one you have accused of that charge could possibly be a spy for Israel.
Besides, have you forgotten that America stole the knowledge, concepts and technology of the Industrial Revolution from Great Briton.
It is covered in any good engineering history course.
The USA used that knowledge and improved on it to become a Superpower far greater than humanities wildest dreams.
Unlike Great Briton, the USA made it possible to acquire that knowledge at little to no cost.
Israel took advantage of that to become a Regional Power while the Muslims rejected that knowledge in favor of the Koran.
That is why Israel is a success while the Muslims are an economic basket case.

We did not steal Britains technology, but paid for patents when we used them. The USA developed the Steamboat, cotton gin, sewing machine. mechanical reaper, Telgraph, electric light. Telephone, and many other great improvements. We have put up ,with Israel's spying and theft for far too long. Israel is the world's gratest welfare queen which has gotten many hundreds of billions in handouts from the USA, Germany, and the worldwide dispora. Yet it can not support itself. It would dry up and blow away in a couple of years without Christian support. Well the gravy train is coming to an end. I must have hit a nerve for you to regress to silly insults.
But you did not answer my original question.
What is it with your obsession with Israel?
Unless I am mistaken, you are not a spy hunter nor connected to the counter-intelligence services in any way.
There is not a country on earth which does not do some form of technology acquisition in a covert manner.
So what is it with you and Israel, did the Mossad harm you or your family in some way?
It must have really hurt to cause such an obsession.

There is a slight chance I might for Romney as the leser evil. I will never ever vote for Cain. He is as dumb as as stump. The only good thing about a Cain nomination would be that we finally would have a 3rd party. The Stupid Party would be finished.
Here are the odds on how I see the election.
Romney 60%
Paul 33%
Perry 4%
Gingrich 3%
Cain 0%.
Clint| 10.25.11 @ 8:00PM

Mittens Romney will be chopped for for TARP, Romneycare, His "Little Chain Saw Al" record at Bain, for His Crony Capitalism Money Trail... for starters.
Jack in Wi| 10.25.11 @ 11:27PM
I agree Clint. It is down to Ron Paul and Willard Romney. I only gave Romney the advantage because the elites almost always get their way. Any party that nominates Herbert Hoover, Alf Landon, Wendall Wilke, Tom Dewey twice, Richard Nixon 3 times, Gerald Ford, old man bush twice, Bob Dole, GW Bush twice and McCain is capable of any folly. Romney fits the Stupid Party criteria for a beautiful loser. You lose even if you win with those guys.
Herb Tarlek| 10.26.11 @ 12:02AM
If Romney wins the nomination you have Obama for 4 more years. If it is Cain or Paul, either one they will win.

Cain will never win. He is Mr. TARP and Mr. Federal Reserve. He wants endless war. He also is ignorant of history, geography, economics, and foreign policy, and revels in it. He would depend on advisors like Alan Greenspan for economics, and Henry Kssinger for foreign policy. He is a total tool of the banksters, the military Industrial complex, and the Israeli Lobby. His nomination would finally end the Republican Party.

If Perry was the de facto Republican nominee for president, the press would be all over him for this and would keep at it for months. There would be screaming front page headlines, outraged editorials, solemn presidential intonements; the works. The Republican nominee can not afford these gaffes, and it seems like every time Perry opens his mouth, he steps in it again. The question is not whether Perry would make a good president--of course he would--the question is can he get elected.
And Romney failing to have an opinion as it regards the insidious public employee unions is unforgivable. If he were by contrast to have given a fiery speech denouncing these bastards his poll numbers would go up ten points. But no.
I'm beginning to think that Newt Gingrich, warts and all, is going to have to be our man.
Simon Templar| 10.25.11 @ 7:42PM

Shafer Parker| 10.25.11 @ 7:11PM
I listened to Perry's comments. Nothing he said hinted he is a birther (not that there would be anything wrong with that). This sounds to me like someone crying wolf where there is no wolf for the purpose of discrediting an excellent candidate.
Simon Templar| 10.25.11 @ 7:40PM
Read the article I posted above. It is what you call real journalism and gives all the interview, the whole story, and the details on how this story is a total fabrication and how conservative bloggers fell for it like a bunch of morons.
Paul McGrath| 10.25.11 @ 9:47PM
Simon,
The story is not a fabrication. I watched the video. Why even bring this subject up? Why talk about it at all? It does nothing to advance his cause and still might potentially blow up in his face. Take a wild guess as to whether you're going to see an article about this displayed in the mainstream press tomorrow.
If this was a one-time thing it'd be easily forgiven, but this kind of thing seems to happen about once a week. He calls Bernanke a traitor. He says conservatives are "heartless." He attacks Romney in a mean-spirited way over his lawn-care employees. He stumbles incoherently in the second debate.
Again, his principles seems to be sound, but if he continues to stumble like this during the general election process, they'll bury him.
Simon Templar| 10.26.11 @ 11:02AM
You watched the video? Which one, the edited or the full video. Did you go to the article I suggested? Did you see the evidence presented there? Did you read the WHOLE story surounding this incident?
Apparently not. First, HE never brought it up, the reporter did.
What the hell is the matter with you people?
Do any of you have an respect for truth or do you just slurp up anything that is rolled out in front of you.
Simon Templar| 10.26.11 @ 11:10AM
Since you are too lazy and stupid to go to the article, here it is...
Well Played, Mainstream Media
Well, my fellow conservatives, we’ve just about let the MSM win one. Rick Perry rolled out a solid economic and tax reform plan today, but many of my fellow conservative bloggers and even a trio of Republican governors have allowed the MSM to move the debate from that plan to trivia and nonsense.
Whether it’s Perry or some other candidate doesn’t matter. It’s not the candidate, it’s the fact that we have collectively let the media dictate the terms of debate, again. We should really smarten up and see this sort of thing coming.
It begins with Parade magazine asking Rick Perry about whether Obama was born in the US. Perry answers in a dismissive, straightforward manner (“I have no reason to think otherwise.”), but that’s not good enough for the reporter, so on a re-direct Perry answers more and gets playful about Obama continuing to hide so much of his past (which the MSM is still incurious about). That was a mistake, but his first answer should have stood. His answer to the re-direct is what generated the first round of “Perry wades into birtherism” nonsense. He didn’t “wade into” anything; the reporter asked him a series of questions designed to get something they could use to generate splashy headlines. Now Parade, a magazine that hasn’t been relevant in forever, is in the national conversation. Mission accomplished.
Now, John Harwood of CNBC asks Perry about it again, and Perry has some fun with it. But tucked in his answer is yet another rebuke of birtherism as an issue. It’s clear, as Ed Morrissey managed to notice before going on to rip Perry for a second straight day. Ed also noticed that The New York Times left that line out of their original transcript — a very important line — before proceeding to rip Perry. The salient line is in bold.
RICK PERRY: Well, look, I haven’t– I haven’t seen his– I haven’t seen his grades. My grades ended up on the front page of the newspaper. So, let’s– you know, if we’re going to show stuff, let’s show stuff. So. But, look, that’s all a distraction. I mean, I get it. I’m– I’m really not worried about the President’s birth certificate. It’s fun to– to poke and add him a little bit and say hey, how about– let’s see your grades and your birth certificate.
And then Perry lets loose the answer that should be getting all of the attention.
JOHN HARWOOD: Well so–
RICK PERRY: But here’s what’s really serious. Is we got people sitting around watching this interview while the president has killed 2 and a half million jobs. That’s serious. And that’s what we got to better get right.
Perry isn’t bringing birtherism up; reporters are. So he’s messing with them. The Times leaves out an important line, yet the pile-on from the right on Perry continues. The only reason reporters are asking about this at all is to fence Obama’s past off from scrutiny and at the same time, set up our candidates for gotchas. Sparking internecine attacks is surely a wonderful bonus for them. The next Republican asked about any of this has to hit back at the reporter hard enough to leave a mark. That’s likely to be Romney, who will have learned well from Perry’s example.
The MSM is calling the tunes, and many of the best and brightest on our side are dancing right along, bloggers and governors alike.
Maybe we don’t deserve to win in 2012. We’re clearly not smart enough to see what the media is doing to all of our candidates, let alone effectively counter any of it.
More: After further review, Cain is probably going to get these idiotic birther questions next. He’s the front-runner at the moment, and he’s shown a tendency to get a little off-track in recent interviews. So Team Hermanator had better get their man ready.
Update: Gov. Perry delivered more remarks on his flat tax plan in Charleston this afternoon, and the first reporter tried distracting him by first saying that Perry had raised the birth certificate (he didn’t, reporters did), and then asked him about it. Perry didn’t take the bait, he cut the reporter off and went right to his plan and made the reporter look a bit silly for asking. Good.
Martin Hutchinson| 10.25.11 @ 7:16PM
Jennifer Rubin is an evil neocon who is in the tank for Romney because neocons like wasting American lives and money on invading bits of the Middle east. She should be ignored and Quin should know better.
Perry's much the best of the bunch, which is why the Romneybots have been elevating Cain -- until he got ahead of their hero.
Quin| 10.25.11 @ 11:09PM
Sorry, but you have no clue what you are talking about. Jennifer Rubin is fiercely against Romney; she blasted him throughout the 2008 campaign and has blasted him throughout this campaign. Indeed, she really detests the guy. She has voiced approval of Santorum, of Jindal, and of Ryan. How in heck does that make her anything other than a solid conservative?
Martin Hutchinson| 10.26.11 @ 9:20AM
Sorry Quin, you're wrong. I'd been fuming at Rubin's columns for weeks, and Politico has picked up the problem (hope the link works) in "Perry's worst nightmare: JRubinblogger"
http://t.co/EYjC3Y3S
I agree with your man Jindal; since we won't get Ron Paul, Perry is by far the pick of the bunch. Looks very much like Reagan to me, gaffes and all.
Simon Templar| 10.26.11 @ 11:23AM
Thanks, Martin. Read the article.
Particularly loved this quote from her,
"I don’t have a loyalty in the same way that many conservative writers do that they feel hesitant or constrained about criticizing conservatives,”
This can be translated as follows, "I could give a rats ass about conservativism, this election, or journalistic integrity. What matters most to me is my career and my advancement. I will say and do anything that will promote that. If it gets me attention, and you know this is what makes or breaks you in a saturated, very loud market of news and information, then I will write it. "
Dixie Pixie| 10.25.11 @ 7:55PM
Jindal would be a fool to run, as Perry would be a fool to dropout it this point.
For Perry's case, there has not been a primary election to determine who is actually the better candidate.
If Perry dropouts now, he would have wasted his time, money and effort for no effect.
Besides who says Romney is the front runner, in every contest with real voters he has came in 2nd or 3rd place.
Perry has just as good a chance as Romney until the voters say otherwise.
In Jindal's case, he just got an 4 year extension on a really good day job and running for President is no sure thing.
It is far to late to get in the race now as he could never complete the Florida Primary requirements in time.
Also he would have to build a national campaign structure in weeks.
That is a near impossible task given the fractured organizational structure of the Republican Party.
Face facts, the political machines that formed the base of the old party structures are dead and gone.
Unless a politician has been working for years to form a regional or national organizational structure, he has no chance to even complete the requirements to get on the ballot.
JGwen| 10.25.11 @ 7:58PM
I second the "Perry's much the best of the bunch!"
I particularly appreciate that he is not an elitist subservient to the establishment.
I've been fulfilling my responsibilities as a voter doing extensive research. I'm well satisfied with his beliefs, positions and internal fortitude!
Rogue Elephant| 10.25.11 @ 8:00PM
ROMNEY IS A COWARD. Want to know what a Romney Presidency would be like? All you have to do is see his refusal to take a stand for the union reforms in Ohio SB 5. Lesson: He will cower before the public sector unions and lacks the courage to tackle controversial issues - not the President we need.
Bob| 10.25.11 @ 8:26PM
This is fun seeing you Republicans distintegrate into what Reagan called a dust bin of history. The dust bin turned out to be the final resting place of his own party. Ashes to ashes dust to dust the obituary of the Grand Old Party and good riddance. Michele still doesn't know the location of Lexington & Concord. Why am I not surprised at this.

Perry has been an excellent governor in TX. He is a staunch conservative, believes in states rights, the constitution, is pro-life, defense hawk, wants to secure the borders, and is a good friend to Israel. I have voted for him in the past 4 elections and will vote for him in the Primary. He has the best plan so far to get the economy going again. He got in the race late, but with this new staff, will get going great guns.

This race for the presidency has only just begun.
I am stunned at the short sightedness of the author of this article. Gov. Perry happens to be the #1 governor of the USA for creating jobs and being business friendly! The formats for the one-minute-each debates are unrealistic. It's all form and not substance. Governor Perry speeches are inspirational and his values are conservative.
martin j smith| 10.26.11 @ 7:56AM
Hillyer--take a swim in a lake, If you do not like Conservative too bad because I am guess once people are clear about who Romney really is he will not be chosen. Now my guess and it is only a guess is its between Perry and Gingrich in the end. That is a hunch only. But at any rate instead if whining like a child why not support one of the current candidates ? Here is a fact of life. No one is perfect, but any of them are more perfect than Obama. If you disagree with that then we should that and that tells us about who you are.
JGwen| 10.26.11 @ 8:00AM
Governor Perry has been authorizing Texas tax moneys to supplement deficient federal border control. He has repeatedly requested more federal support for border control.
The Texas "Dream Act" was authorized by a veto proof vote. In the last session legislation to repeal it was withdrawn due to intense opposition. Texans continue to support the program. Texas does not have an income tax. Sales and property taxes (think rental income) are levied on all persons in Texas (including illegal aliens). One might posit that some of the funding for the "in-state tuition" is being provided by the targeted population.
Governor Perry has opined E-Verify is not up to muster in terms of reliably identifying individuals eligible for employment, but if it were reliable he would support it. There may be an issue of the validity of the information the Governor has received on the E-Verify issue, but one would have to give credence to his position based on what he has been advised.

Perry should drop out, he is no longer a viable candidate. He comes off terrible in the debates and does not need to belittle himself any more. Now he has got in over his head with the flat tax and that those who want can opt out for the existing tax program. This would leave the middle class holding the bag while the wealthy and corporations with tax lawyers would opt out and end up paying very little taxes. What kind of insane leadership is this? Now he's going to drop out of the debates because he is a lowly whiner. His poor performance is his own doing. Time to go Rick Perry, besides he will never win a national election. We Independents will never support him.
