The Texas Rangers have just captured their second consecutive American League pennant with a 15-5 win over the Detroit Tigers in Game 6 of the ALCS.

Although Yogi Berra says “it ain’t over ‘til it’s over” this game was over in the third inning when the Rangers scored nine runs.

Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz was named ALCS MVP hitting six homeruns and driving in 13 runs. And he did it from the seventh spot in the batting order.

In the meantime, the Rangers await the winner of the NLCS. The St. Louis Cardinals currently have a 3-2 lead over the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLCS. The Cardinals could clinch tomorrow night but a Brewers win would force a Game 7 which would be played on Monday night.

The Rangers become the first AL team to win back to back pennants since the New York Yankees did it four straight seasons between 1998 and 2001.

The World Series commences Wednesday night in either Milwaukee or St. Louis.

Congrats to the Ron Washington and the Rangers from a Yankees fan. At the beginning of the season it was hard to see them winning the pennant again; they lost Cliff Lee and last season seemed kinda fluky. I guess I was wrong. You can't not like this team.

Well, Aaron, the Tigers did not win and Brandon Inge was not the MVP, but Inge was not "remotely relevant" as I suggested he would be. He hit a key homer at one point and was truly outstanding at third base.

The question is, can Texas win a World Series with such mediocre starting pitching? Oh yeah, they can hit, and man, their middle relievers and closers are brilliant, but they do not have ONE sure-fire, knock -em dead starter.

Both Milwaukee and St. Louis have at least one great starter, and both of those teams have great hitting as well. Plus, four of the games will be played in the NL park, which means Texas will have to bat their (crummy) pitcher.

I'm gonna step out on a limb: The NL team, whoever it is, will beat Texas in five.

Does Goldstein write anything other than baseball and entertainment (oh, Boston too)? Talk about an ethnic stereotype......

Yogi Berra is da man, but wasn't that a Casey Stengel quote? You're surely right, it's too terse for Casey. Ron Washington said a beaut early in the series, "What he done tonight, he's capable of doing." Which is more a Stengelism than a Yogism, don't you think? I mean apart from being pure Ron Washington.

How about this: "Every time Ron Washington coaches a game, there are 25,000 people in the stands who aren't stupider than him."

The rangers of thegrey company were dressed in dark grey cloaks and openly wore a silver brooch shaped like a pointed star during the war of the ring. These rangers rode rough haired, sturdy horses, were helmeted and carried shields. Their armament included spears and bows. Thanks a lot.
