Cain’s Candor on Race

I think Herman Cain discusses the question of race where it concerns economic opportunity most admirably in his interview yesterday with CNN’s Candy Crowley. When Crowley asked Cain if blacks have a level playing field with whites he replied:

Many of them do. Many of them do have a level playing field. I absolutely believe that because, not only because of the businesses I have run which has had a combination of blacks, whites, Hispanics, you know, we had a total diversity. But also because of the corporations whose boards I’ve served on for the past twenty years. I have seen blacks in middle management move up to top management in some of the biggest corporations in America. They weren’t held back because of racism. No! People sometimes hold themselves back because they want to use racism as an excuse for them not being able to achieve what they want to achieve.

Now I realize Cain took some heat for his row with Rick Perry concerning his family’s hunting camp not so long ago. But if you consider with which Cain spoke about the need for people in his own community to not to use race as a crutch and accept individual responsibility then I would say he did more to advance the “national conversation on race” in two minutes than what Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and the NAACP have done over the past 25 years.

Just sayin' you're a liar.
He did not do that, and I told you that he didn't do that, and explained what really happened.
So for you to continue to SLANDER a good man makes you a flaming liar, but then, we all knew that already, didn't we?

Racism does hold people back. Native whites are systematically discriminated against via Affirmative Action and quota policies.

Cain still plays the victim card, if a bit more dignity, but perhaps it takes a Red Diaper Canadian to call this 'advancing the conversation.'

Rick Perry's actions in the Nrock affair were absolutely virtuous and beyond. One expects
the race card to be played by liberals. But Cain
jumped the gun and showed poor judgement by attacking before all the facts came in. He gets a pass on the first one. But if there is a next time for this nonsense, his stock goes down.

A good orator can do much for himself in politics, as proved by Reagan and Roosevelt, and almost proved (negatively) by Dubya. Last time around Independents and some foolish Repubs allowed themselves to fall for an orator who can't even orate---merely read well. Unfortunately for us, we're now getting excited about another man whose main electoral advantage is his ability to excite crowds. Yep, it's Herman.

If he makes it to the finish line I'll vote for him, since Obama must be removed. But we need to face the fact that on policies other than economics Cain is surprisingly ignorant considering his age and education, and the fact he has hosted a talk show. Even his business experience is thin once he gets past the pizza job.

I suggest we hold off on the coronation for awhile.
