Was Steve Jobs, an adoptee whose biological father was Syrian, the greatest Arab-American ever?

Glancing over Wikipedia’s list of Americans of Arab extraction, the pickings are a little slim: some of the most plausible other candidates are Mitch Daniels, John Sununu, George Mitchell, and Edward Said. Of that group, I’d give the nod to Jobs. Is anyone missing?

Khalil Gibran is up there.

Third best selling poet of all time behind Shakespeare and Lao Tzu. He also has a lovely little park dedicated to him across the street from the British Embassy up Mass. Ave.

Kasey Kasem and Danny Thomas, not to mention Marlo Thomas, come to mind.

Mr. Lawler,

Re your "pickings are a little slim" comment.

I don't know what the intent of your question is since this country is supposed to be a "melting pot" of immigrants. And you have limited your question ethnically to "Arabs" from the near east and have excluded Armenians from the near east who are not Arab but who are Christians much like the great proportion of the Arab/American population.

There has been a large diaspora of Near Eastern Christians into the United States since before World War I. Most of these people have intermarried with people of european ancestry and have often anglicized their names much as people of Polish ancestry have done. They and their descendants went on to become proud and patriotic Americans.

There is an odor of prejudice coming from your blog here, Mr. Lawler.

Go to Wiki for a very incomplete list:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Arab_Americans

Steve job was indeed Syrian American, but really if it wasn't for his hardword and the opportunity America has given him he would never be! RIP Steve
