A Shadow of His Smile

Just read Tony Bennett’s comments on how America caused 9/11. He truly has left his heart in San Francisco. Where he left his mind is another question. Clearly, a former WWII combat infantryman who has traveled the world extensively has learned nothing about it. Grade A singer, F thinker.

Few combat veterans, especially Bennett's WWII comrades-in-arms, speak about war in the hysterical way Bennett does. I've read quotes of Bennett's diatribes; even in a vacuum, I would think he's kind of unbalanced.

Senility creeping in.

Bennett sounds like he's bucking to be Ron Paul's running mate.

"Michael Scheuer, who was the head analyst at the CIA’s bin Laden unit, Alec Station, and authored the books Through Our Enemies Eyes and Imperial Hubris, said “I thought Mr. Paul captured it the other night exactly correctly. This war is dangerous to America because it’s based, not on gender equality, as Mr. Giuliani suggested, or any other kind of freedom, but simply because of what we do in the Islamic World because ‘we’re over there,’ basically, as Mr. Paul said in the debate.”

Scheuer also agreed with Dr. Paul’s statement in the debate that the war in Iraq was a diversion from capturing or killing Osama bin Laden and that bin Laden was “delighted” that the U.S. is occupying Iraq as it has become a training ground and recruiting tool for new jihadists joining the movement."

That geezer hasn't had a decent voice in decades. Knew all along of course that he was a super liberal, for otherwise, why would he have received the level of adulation he has of late.

What other reason was a man way, WAY past his prime, when his voice had long since transformed into a rather painful croak, been getting lauded the way he was. THAT alone told us all we needed to know about his political inclinations.

Had a voice way back in the day. But no longer.

In all the PC comments about Bennett web wide, I don't see anybody taking umbrage with the CIA's characterization of events such as 9/11 in their term "blowback".
Tony's an easy punching bag. It's still funny when the CIA essentially agrees with what he's trying to say.

Lots of otherwise talented folks are knuckleheads when it comes to the real world.
Depending on an elderly singer who has been feted and adored for decades to have a realistic viewpoint of complex issues like this might not be too wise.
I will continue to enjoy his old recordings, appreciate his contributions to our culture, and leave it at that.
Remember; Oliver Stone, David Brower and Charlie Rangel were all decorated combat veterans.
It didn't prevent them from becoming liberals in later life.

Please provide a source that supports your statement that the CIA characterized 9-11 as "blowback."

Oldbull| 9.21.11 @ 10:34PM

bsdn, a further thought, please: was Pearl Harbor "blowback" for the US embargo of oil and scrap iron shipments to Japan? If so, would you then say that the US "caused" Pearl Harbor?
