After Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said yesterday that two American hikers would be released as a humanitarian gesture, Iran’s judiciary now says otherwise.

It’s being portrayed as a rift within the Iranian government. But the reality is that totalitarian regimes like to play games. Indeed, they did the same thing a year ago with Sarah Shourd who was eventually released a few days later.

I suspect that Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal will be released in a few days. It would not come as a surprise to me if they were on the same plane to New York with Ahmadinejad.
