Oops. He did it again.

As things turned desperate for the liberal 1988 Democratic presidential nominee, Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis, he compared himself to that patron saint of underdogs everywhere, Harry Truman. At the time, the most popular movie in the land was Who Framed Roger Rabbit,

A clever marriage of cartoon character (Roger Rabbit) and real-life actors.

President Ronald Reagan, observing Dukakis flail about with the usual class-warfare attacks on the roaring success of Reaganomics and, by proxy, the GOP nominee, Reagan's Vice President George H.W. Bush, had a bemused answer. Said the smiling Reagan of Dukakis, understanding exactly the game afoot:

"If he's Harry Truman, I'm Roger Rabbit."

Dukakis, once ahead of Bush by 17 points, lost in a landslide.

Tonight it was Barack Obama's turn at the game. Unlike Dukakis, Obama is the sitting president. A president who has had a full two years of total control of the government to re-arrange the economy to his liking.

Done. Done. And done again. And like the old song of Britney Spears, the President is singing the political equivalent of Spears' trademark: "Baby, One More Time."

The results are in, and quite obviously they are terrible. Unemployment, which Obamanomics insisted would be down to 8% long ago, is resting at a stone-cold 9.1% The rest of the economy is a wreck. As Ronald Reagan could have told him and in fact as all manner of people other than liberals did tell Mr. Obama, his approach of a massive "stimulus" followed by a takeover of the American health care system -- "ObamaCare" -- was destined to fail right from the start. Now, the President is reduced to singing the political equivalent of another Spears hit: "Oops, I Did It Again."

The next several days will spill out the details of one more presidential "oops."

But like the famous Jimmy Carter "malaise speech"…Obama has run out the presidential string.

It's over for the presidency of Barack Obama.

Over. You can spell that Jimmy Carter. George H.W. Bush. Or Herbert Hoover. But however you choose to spell it,  this was the speech of an already defeated president whose ideas have been put to the test and found wanting.

And alas for the American people, they will have to live the seriously real time lesson of Obamanomics for another breathtakingly lousy 16 months. A full and lousy sixteen months until one of the people on the stage of the Reagan Library the other night puts his or hand on the Bible in January of 2013.

At which point, former President Britney Spears will lose the power to do it to the American people one more time.

Excuse me while I stall for time to figure out how to disavow the parts of the President's job proposal that were crafted by Republicans

Shill Watch| 9.8.11 @ 9:30PM

Keep saying it Mike. Maybe somebody will believe you. President Carter gave a great speech tonight. I'll give you that. I am really looking forward to his next one. After the CBO grades this speech we can compare it to his last speech. Wait a minute they don't evaluate speeches. Oh well. Thank goodness this campaign stop didn't interfere with the football game.

Mike| 9.8.11 @ 9:45PM

It takes awhile for those on the right to get it.

tonypal| 9.8.11 @ 10:37PM

Mike, it's over 2 1/2 years and you still don't get it. Maybe some day you'll figure out that at best, government can help to create conditions under which the private economy can grow. The reason Obama's schemes haven't worked is not because he didn't do enough. It's because they can't work, no matter how much money you spend, no matter how much you really want them to work.

There's quite a few people who have come to that realization over the past 2 1/2 years. Many of them once thought as you do, but have seen the light. We used to call them independents, but now many of them refer to themselves as Tea Partiers.

So you can either open your mind to the fact just maybe you've been misled, or you can just keep popping up here and other places to give public confirmation of your ignorance.

Jeffrey Lord| 9.8.11 @ 9:03PM

You mean cutting the corporate tax rate?

You mean all those proposals to stop class warfare?

I missed those. Maybe we didn't hear the same speech? Oops. Mike, you did it again.

Mike| 9.8.11 @ 11:45PM

Well, Jeff. I'm honored. Care to talk about the other proposals?

Simon Templar| 9.9.11 @ 12:01AM

Maybe you could do something besides give smarmy remarks and you can tell us something about what is new about your poser's proposals.

DRed| 9.9.11 @ 2:07AM

The logic behind cutting corporate tax rates, Jeff, as I understand it, is that it will allow corporations to profit more. With their increased profits, they'll seek to expand and hire more people. Am I missing something? The implication is that corporations aren't making much money-that's why they need a tax break to keep more of their profits. So, Mr. Lord-how are corporate profits these days? They must be low, right? That's why they need these tax breaks.

tonypal| 9.9.11 @ 10:49AM

Dred, have you ever owned a business? I'm self-employed, so let me try to explain how this works. Taxes are part of the cost of doing business. They add to overhead, much as an increase in energy costs adds to overhead. As a businessman, I can assure you that when the cost of running my business goes up, I look to make up the difference. So do corporations.

Now what exactly can or will a corporation do when taxes go up, increasing the cost of doing business. They can take a hit to their bottom line, but that wouldn't make the shareholders very happy. Let's understand that corporations exist not to employ people, but to make money for their shareholders. So perhaps the corporation lays off a few people, or cuts hours. Maybe they reduce benefits. Or maybe they pass the cost along to the consumer. But the one thing a corporation does not do is absorb the increased cost of doing business and apply it against the bottom line.

On the other hand, when a corporation has more money to spend, they expand operations to increase profits. Now you might ask why corporations with "record breaking profits" are not hiring right now. The answer is the utter lack of faith in our national leadership, particularly the president. They're also looking at the future and see a massive new entitlement called Obamacare on the horizon. Why expand operations when the cost of doing so will far outweigh any potential profits?

The ball is in your court now DRed.

DRed| 9.9.11 @ 12:19PM

I would imagine that they're not expanding because there is not sufficient demand. If people are unemployed, they can't buy your stuff. In any event, lowering corporate tax rates won't make 'obamacare' go away and won't reduce the alleged utter lack of faith in our national leadership these corporations are plagued by.

Obama Is The Chairman Of The Bores.

albert constantine jr| 9.8.11 @ 9:35PM

I believe another hit by Ms. Spears may apply as well- "Toxic".

RJ| 9.8.11 @ 9:37PM

Please don't compare Obama to Britney Spears. She has more substance than our superficial president.

Chelsea Jade Clemons| 9.9.11 @ 5:21AM

I was literally thinking the same thing as u read this. While I completely agree with the general concept of the article and the position of the writer, I feel that the comparison to Britney Spears was in poor taste. She has and will always be more sincere, inspirational and Pro-American.

NYMPH| 9.9.11 @ 12:52PM

You mean the Britney Spears that endangered her infant child by jumping in her car and driving off with the baby in her lap instead of placing the child in its car seat because the paperazzi were after her? or the Britney Spears that, on a lark, shaved her head? or the Britney Spears that hooked up with some dude one day, married him the next and divorced his the day after that? That Britney Spears?

Anthony| 9.8.11 @ 9:44PM

The media will begin pulling out all the stops against the Republican candidates, I expect it will turn into a farce pretty soon. I hope someone calls Romney and tells him not to carry water for the left, they'll never support him, and eventually they chew him up like they did McCain.

9th ID| 9.8.11 @ 11:22PM

I only hope our republic holds together long enough to make it to the desposing of Obama in 2013...

Simon Templar| 9.9.11 @ 12:03AM

Bingo. You are one of the few that gets it. Fasten your seatbelts because the shit is going to hit the fan in the next 14 months.

Margie| 9.9.11 @ 1:28PM

Desposing, that sounds good. At first I read it as deposing.
Wouldn't THAT be just as good? Impeachment anyone?
I wish.

PCC| 9.8.11 @ 11:32PM

By comparing President Obama's policies with those of Britney Spears, Mr. Lord is giving Ms. Spears a bad rap.

Mr. Reasonable| 9.9.11 @ 12:54AM

Everyone forgets the absolute destruction waged on this country for 8 years prior to him taking office. You can't fix 8 years of destruction in 2 1/2 years! You just can not...especially when being fought every step of the way. Bottom line is that the right wants to protect the rich and widen the class gap and that is crystal clear. When are all you fools going to wake up turn around and realize you are getting bullshit shoved right up your ass? Simply imagine one thing...what if half the cash pissed away on two wars was put to work at home....where would we be?

Nick| 9.9.11 @ 1:39AM

Mr. Non-Reasonable,

"Simply imagine one thing...what if half the cash [expletive deleted] away on two wars was put to work at home....where would we be?"

Half the cost of Operation Iraqi Freedom, under President Bush, would be a little over $350 billion. A drop in the bucket.

Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) was "the good war," remember?

Source: http://www.americanthinker.com.....s_not.html

Ed| 9.9.11 @ 7:11AM

You seem to have forgotten that during the first two years of the current administration, the Democrats controlled both houses of Congress.
They had the power to get something done and did nothing, nothing! Obama is a curse on this country and will go down to defeat come the next election.

George S| 9.9.11 @ 10:18AM

What if half of the five trillion pissed away on the War On Poverty was put to work for those who earned it... where would we be?

If we can't defeat poverty with five trillion dollars, then how in Liberal Hell can another one half of 350 billion do a blessed thing?

tonypal| 9.9.11 @ 10:55AM

First of all, I completely reject the notion that there was absolute destruction during Bush's 8 years. How silly, especially when you consider how low the unemployment rate was during Bush's tenure. Beyond that, is it really your contention that destruction was actually desired by Bush? If yes, explain why President Bush would seek to destroy our country. In all seriousness, have you ever actually thought it through?

I must say that you did manage to squeeze all of the left's talking points into one neat paragraph. Well done. As for President Obama not having enough time to fix all this so-called destruction, I believe it was the President himself who said his re-election will be based on how well he and his democrat minions do with respect to the economy and employment during his first 4 years. Was he wrong?

Warrior| 9.9.11 @ 11:07AM

For a moment, assume you are correct. If war in the middle east is wrong, then why did Obama start a third one and double down on an existing one? If deficit spending is wrong, then why Obama quadruple it? If the Patriot Act steals liberty, then why has been continued and expanded? If Medicare D was a bad idea, then why are we funding an expansion of the government control over health care? If No Child Left Behind didn't work, then why are we increasing the amount of money spent on education? Why have we trampled existing bankruptcy laws to save GM and Chrysler? Why have we stopped deep water drilling in the gulf because of one accident only to give money to finance Soros and Brazil to drill in deeper waters? Why are our returning military members equated to home grown terrorists?

Would you like for me to keep going? There is plenty more.

Nick| 9.9.11 @ 1:25AM

Mr. Lord,

I'm extremely disturbed by your seemingly expert knowledge of the lyrics of a Britney Spears song!

BobS| 9.9.11 @ 1:25AM

Mr. Reasonable,
As bad as GW Bush was, it took him 8 yrs. to spend what GW Obama has spent in two.
Do the math.
No to the GW clones/siamese twins, too big to read/too big to fail and yes to 10 cent gas.
Go RP

beebop| 9.9.11 @ 5:31AM

Think of how EASY it would be to redirect the nearly $900 Billion of unspent Stimulus I money still sitting in the department of energy (do we really need a "department" committed to stiffling development of energy?) ...

No ridiculous teleprompter needed, just a phone call and a pen. What a complete ass he is.

Wasn't there, like, a popular U-Tube video with this title?? Some whining, crying Democrap babe?

Oh -- and I see the D-posters are now the hardcore. No longer are the wannabe's offering second-hand commentary. Only the True-Believer will stay the course with this guy - or union thugs.

Don L| 9.9.11 @ 8:19AM

He's not inept! The man is highly successful. Only those who assume he has any integity can view him as an incompetent or a failure.
No man can accidently do such harm to the nation and then double down on it with a speech saying the GOP is causing the problem without being recognized for what he is, and is doing.

The puzzle just isn't a puzzle anymore -his friends , his history, his hatred of the Constitution's limiting powers, the threats to go around congress, the challenge he laid down in ignoring congress in Libya, gunrunner, get in their face SEIU, open union threats to take down the SOB's as his gospel, bring a gun to a knife fight, lying beyond a level that even Bill Clinton would be embarassed by, attacking doctors, insurance folks, paying off his corps -GM and GE, demanding babies who escape abnortion be starved to death etc.
This man is the enemy of decency and freedom and the cowards in the GOP worry about what the indies might say if they don't roll over and let him destroy America.
This is the reverse of fighting a tyrant king for our freedom and independence -this is passive suicide while our freedom and independence are being boldly taken away while we whimper about it.
