That's easy. Just move the debate back a couple of days. Also gives the candidates time to scour O's plan, and blow it apart during the debate. O is not too smart; he was elected because no one knew anything about what he would do. Now, he's placing his plans out there for everyone to criticize.
Brad| 8.31.11 @ 2:46PM
My thoughts, exactly. Rush was commenting about how the scumbagcrats in and out of the administration must be having a good laugh about all this.
Imagine how fast the laughing stops when they realize what a real blunder they just made...
Shay| 8.31.11 @ 1:23PM
They could broadcast his speech on my computer monitor at work and I STILL wouldn't watch that guy patronize the public one more time. I'm sick of these Democrats and their policies.
Oldefarte| 8.31.11 @ 1:29PM
Rush Limbaugh was just discussing this situation on his radio show, and the amazingly coincidental nature of his requested joint session of congress address anouncing his jobs plan which would negate/nullify the Republican TV debate on/about the same date. There is simply no depth of corruption or sellzy Chicago Way political tactics that these Democrats are obviously capable of. In supposedly telepromptingly announcing his plans on the same date as Republicans debate, he/they are attempting to nullify/destroy the political benefits to Republican from same. Simply amazing! November of 2012 simply cannot get here soon enough for some of us, so that we can hopefully rid ourselves of this political excrement HOPE & CHANGE !!!!!!!!
Simon Templar| 8.31.11 @ 1:47PM
This is called controlling the narrative and setting up your opposition to fall into a no-win situation. The real question is what are we going to do about it?
Oldefarte| 8.31.11 @ 4:28PM
If this duel congressional address by Obama and the Republican debate is aired simultaneously, I'd hope that most intelligent voters would simply watch the debate and allow Obama's speech to not be substantially viewed. Hades, he's on TV more than re-runs of Law & Order!!!!!!
beebop| 8.31.11 @ 6:22PM
I think they should go forward with it and see whose ratings are better than whose. Imagine how the 0ego would pop when he realized that most Americans had tuned him out.
Simon Templar| 8.31.11 @ 1:55PM
How about this? The candidates get smart, get together, and have a tag team that rips the poser a new one instead of a debate. The second half of the program would contain each candidate presenting their own creative ten point proposal for fixing the nations problems. Check mate.
I do not know about you, but I am sick of these ridiculous debates. I want solutions, ideas, and what each candidate would do as President.
Mary Mayes | 8.31.11 @ 4:22PM
I agree -- everybody trashed Newt for pointing it out, but debates have become mostly "gotcha" sessions. I can't watch them no matter what the format is.
Oldefarte| 8.31.11 @ 4:23PM
True, but these debates would be so much more informative if the moron MSM sponsoring same would simply ask one [the same] question of every candidate for which each candidate would be required to give his/her answer to same [instead of asking different wuestion to different candidates]. With a overly crowded field, that to me is the only way possible to obtain a distinction between them concerning issues. In debates, both candidates are required to answer the same question and to argue with each other stressing their individual points/opinions, and it should be thus with these presidential debates. Possibly each candidates should be required to present their own particular proposals regarding several critical issues facing this nation, and thereafter the MSM panel should question each on same. The loonely way these debates are presented, there is no way a disction can be obtained from these candidates!!!!

I called Speaker Boehner's office to tell the Pres - NO, call me next time before annoucing a speach in the House. You have Sept. 5,8,9,10,11, etc.
9thID| 8.31.11 @ 2:37PM
This is intentional -- they are daring Boehner to say no in order to drive the their talking point that the GOP is being partisan. Besides, any other date would interfere with an Obama fundraising event...
Al Adab| 8.31.11 @ 3:11PM
Just a coincidence like the Iowa bus tour during the run up. Do these people really think the voters are so stupid as not to notice?
David| 8.31.11 @ 3:59PM
I just knew this president was above partisan gamesmanship.
Bob Grant| 8.31.11 @ 4:30PM
I think the debate should be moved 1 day after the POS president gives his jobs proclamation. The candidates can mull over his "plan" and rip it apart the following day.
I think it serves no one well to turn this into a political fight.
This, like all other attempts at political gamesmanship, will blow up in wonder boy's face.
MikeBee| 8.31.11 @ 4:40PM
Actually, with TIVO today, the Republican candidates could hold their own "Watch the President's speech" debate. Let the Pres talk for a couple of sentences --TIVO freeze -- give their response to his nonsense--TIVO unfreeze, go to his next point. Those watching the debate could end up listening to the President's ideas AND the Republicans' ideas, at the same time, and decide for themselves!
Bob Grant| 8.31.11 @ 4:48PM
Not bad. Turn his political hackneyed move to their advantage.
Don't count on the Repubs to be so politically savvy.
Intelligent Design| 8.31.11 @ 5:45PM
Who listens to Obama's speeches? He has zero credibility. His speeches are useless dribble. He's a lame duck, just occupying the White House until he is thrown out by the voters in November 2012.
Tom| 8.31.11 @ 6:19PM
I would tell Barach Hussein Obama to go straight to hell.
beebop| 8.31.11 @ 6:20PM
I bet this:
More people will gain jobs from the debate than the speech.
Sean| 8.31.11 @ 6:31PM
Good job Dr. Paul. Boehner is now rejecting the date and it seems it will be moved to a new time.
Clint| 8.31.11 @ 8:23PM
Dr.Ron Paul Leads The Way Once Again.
"Even before Boehner sent a letter to the White House indicating Sept. 7 would not work for House lawmakers, Paul’s spokesman Jesse Benton said “Dr. Paul is weighing his options,” when asked if he would object to the administration’s request for a joint session of Congress.
“It is undignified that the President of the United States would resort to such transparent tactics to step on our Republican debate,” Benton said. “The real losers here are the American people, who deserve the opportunity to watch both events.”
Nite| 8.31.11 @ 9:14PM
Obama is a lying sleaze and a disgrace.
Brian | 8.31.11 @ 10:19PM
Obama's administration showcased in a day:
Incompetence in taking action (scheduling his speech), then backing down (rescheduling his speech).
