Will Sergeant at Arms Wilson Livingood slam the doors of the House of Representatives shut in President Obama’s face if he shows up uninvited Wednesday?

The president has asked to address a joint session of Congress that day in order to deliver for the umpteenth time another dreary, excuse-filled teleprompted oration on how he’s going to magically create new jobs for Americans.

The Obama White House doesn’t give a farthing’s cuss that a high-stakes Republican presidential candidates’ debate has been scheduled for the same evening at the Reagan Library.

Obama flak Jay Carney says the timing is a fluke. As the Washington Examiner reports:

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney says the timing of the speech is not aimed at overshadowing the next Republican debate, which is cosponsored by NBC News and Politico, and is scheduled to air at the same time as the planned presidential address.

“It is coincidental,” Carney said. “It is one debate of many [that will air] on one channel of many… [and] there are many other factors here” to consider when scheduling a major address from the president, he added.

Of course, anyone who believes the timing is coincidental hasn’t been paying attention to our president for the last few years.

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is having none of it. He sent a letter to the White House recommending another day for the speech. Good for him.

It is clear that President Obama may not dictate to Congress when he shall address it.

The tradition that the head of state must at least implicitly seek the permission of the legislature in order to appear in person and address it has a long and storied history in Anglo-American governance.

In England the House of Commons goes so far as to ceremonially slam the doors of the chamber in the face of the Queen’s representative, the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod, to remind all in that green and pleasant land that the Commons is independent of the monarch.

Perhaps it’s time some doors be slammed in the face of America’s would-be monarch.

GRATUITOUS BOOK PLUG: America needs to know that ACORN is restructuring in time to help re-elect President Obama in 2012. Obama used to work for ACORN and represented the group in court as its lawyer. These radical leftists who use the brutal, in-your-face, pressure tactics of Saul Alinsky want to destroy America as we know it and will use any means to do it.

Boehner better NOT cave on this.

c. j. acworth| 8.31.11 @ 6:17PM

They should let Obama get half-way in, THEN slam the door!

beebop| 8.31.11 @ 6:19PM

This is all he's got for his shrinking base. Trying to play grown up. What a pathetic, emotionally troubled human being he is.

Al Adab| 8.31.11 @ 6:53PM

"Emotionally troubled" is mild. Study up on the 25th amendment. It may be time.

Ken (Old Texican)| 8.31.11 @ 6:29PM

Go ahead and speak, Mr. President. The ratings will suck.
(heh)

Simon Templar| 8.31.11 @ 6:49PM

When he does give his speech, the customary response should be something completely different, like a republican 10 point proposal (graphics included) on how to fix the nations economic issues and a promise that it will be presented to the president. Check mate.

Al Adab| 8.31.11 @ 6:51PM

Oh The White House cares very much that this will preempt the GOP debate. That is why they scheduled it when they did. Just like the Iowa bus tour it serves to draw attention to Mr. Obama and away from any potential opponant. We must never let those bad Republicans think they are a viable alternative to the most gifted leader in the world.

Lullabys, Legends and Lies| 8.31.11 @ 7:00PM

I hate to give my ratings to NBC, but if he chooses to do this address the same night as the debate, well then, I'm going to be watching the Peacock instead. Join me, won't you?

Jack in Wi.| 9.1.11 @ 1:52AM

The NFL starts on Thursday night the night Obama will now address Congress. I know what most Americans' will be watching. Go Pack. Beat the Saints.

Jack, with ALL due respect,
GEAUX SAINTS !
Packers are my 2nd favorite team (Matt Flynn, Jimmy Taylor #31, etc).

King O is a dunce. Scheduling his NO JOBS speech at the same time as the Republican debate is absolutely the most juvenile action he could have taken.

I wouldn't listen/watch him in any event. But, it makes my teeth grate to think that this dodo bird is the President of the United States, the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.

Speaker John Boehner must stand up to the charlatan in chief. The House of Representatives is not the place to play king of the hill.

///end rant///maybe...

Barack Obama| 8.31.11 @ 7:57PM

My fellow Americans, the gravity of the economic crisis currently facing this nation demands our immediate attention; it simply cannot wait. Therefore, I plan to address congress 10 days after returning from my vacation in Martha's Vinyard. The speech will take place at 8:00 pm eastern daylight time (so as not to interfere with my regularly scheduled 4 p.m. pick-up hoops game).

Anyone who suggests that the problem can wait for even one day is simply engaging in partisan political gamesmanship and I, for one, have no tolerance for those who would put such petty tactics ahead of country.

Look, the reality is that time is short - I have less than 15 months remaining and there are vast sectors of the economy that have yet to be destroyed. We must proceed with all due haste!

Allah akbar.

Lullabys, Legends and Lies| 8.31.11 @ 8:05PM

Let me be perfectly clear MR President, just because you're posting here now, you're not going to change our opinions of you in any way!! I'm still not going to watch your speech next week, nor am I going to vote for you in 2012. Na, na, na na na,... na!!

Barack Obama| 8.31.11 @ 8:08PM

Note to Treasury Secretary Geitner:

Please have your team look into the last 10 years of tax returns for a citizen named Lullabys, Legends, and Lies.

P.S. This might be an alias - I'm reliably informed that this citizen is a conservative (you know how sneaky they can be).

Bob Grant| 8.31.11 @ 10:26PM

Hey Barack,

Could you help out an Uncle who's in a bind? I don't want to go back to that God-forsaken place...er...I mean our homeland.

Help me out and I promise I'll never set foot in the Chicken Neck Saloon again.

Your Bestest Uncle.
Obunga Obama

Barack Obama | 8.31.11 @ 11:16PM

Dearest Uncle Obunga,

So sorry to hear about your troubles with the authorities. Their actions were clearly racist and no doubt politically motivated. I have directed my team to draft a Presidential pardon and i plan to execute the pardon as soon as I'm able to take a break from the arduous task of slowing the rising oceans and healing the earth (no small job, that).

In the meantime, please give my warmest regards to aunt Obungette and cousin Obunjee.

Alla akbar!
B. Hussein Obama

Barack Obama| 8.31.11 @ 8:05PM

P.S. This is all George Bush's fault.

Concerned Democratic Voter| 8.31.11 @ 8:21PM

Hey, Barry, I mean your highness sir, ummm..I am a little short on cash these days and..umm..I sure could use a new car and house...so I know you got that stash hidden way..thought you could part with a few bucks.

Paul McGrath| 9.1.11 @ 12:06AM

Oh. Hi President Obama. I'm glad you decided to post here. I've been hoping to talk to you. You see, I have a problem. I have been on unemployment for ninety-nine weeks--thank you thank you--but, it's not enough. Although I have enough food and gas and, well, liquor for that matter--thank you thank you--it's getting a little bit difficult to afford the Oriental massages I'm used to getting in San Francisco. You have to understand, they are employees also and are contributing to the economy. And the money that I get in unemployment contributes to the poor girls' welfare. So, I was thinking, maybe we can increase by another 99 weeks my unemployment benefit?

I certainly understand government debt and everything, but I can assure you, if you give me another 99 weeks, I'll be old enough to get social security, and will no longer need to be a drain on society!

Barack Obama | 9.1.11 @ 11:16AM

Granted. Like the ladies at your massage parlor, I'm all about happy endings.

Allah Akbar!

farmboy| 8.31.11 @ 9:10PM

Thursday night speech. NFL open with Green Bay or Obummer's speech. I'm sure the speaker missed that one.

Pecos Pete| 8.31.11 @ 9:36PM

I wouldn't bet on it. Seems like a good turnabout for King O having to compete with the Packers.

Occam's Tool| 8.31.11 @ 9:40PM

Packers!!!!!Woo, Woo!

I bet Jack don't have a ticket to the game.

Jack in Wi.| 9.1.11 @ 1:53AM

Your Right:

Lullabys, Legends and Lies| 8.31.11 @ 9:39PM

The White House just announced that they're moving the speech to Thursday now, so I guess I'm watching Football too!! The President loses again!!

Ryan| 9.1.11 @ 11:28AM

Ah, the Saints' first victory. WHO DAT.

Nite| 8.31.11 @ 9:12PM

Republicans should just ignore Obama. If Obama was very concerned about a jobs plan, he should have done it instead of taking a taxpayer paid very very expensive vacation. I will be watching the Republican Debate. NBC said they would NOT reschedule it on a different night.

Pecos Pete| 8.31.11 @ 9:39PM

Just read that King O will move his blame Bush talk to Thursday, back one day. Looks like Boehner can stand tall for a little while.

You have to wonder what kind of hell is being raised inside the White House tonight.

beebop| 9.1.11 @ 5:33AM

You have to wonder who was in charge of picking the date/time. He looked petulant and child like when the announcement was made. The White House looked like bold faced liars when they sent Jay Smarmy out to try to convince the five or six who might be convinced by words like "coincidental," and now they look dumber than the Keystone Kops. Worst.Administration.Ever.

Matthew Quigley| 8.31.11 @ 10:28PM

If the Republicans have any brains at all, they'll boycott his speech. Of course certain Repubics, such as McLame and Goober Grahamnesty will be there effectively fellating Hussein, but the smart ones should tell the Kenyan to go pound sand.

Wayne| 8.31.11 @ 11:25PM

Sorry Matt I disagree with you. Barack Obama may be an idiot, a socialist, a communist, or even a Kenyan, but for now he is the President of the United States. The President deserves respect especially from Congress. If Republicans can not show respect for the office they are as guilty as the DEmocrats for their behavior to Geo Bush!

Bob Grant| 8.31.11 @ 11:49PM

The problem, Wayne, with your position is republicans will get zero credit for showing respect to Obama.

News media will ignore their magnanimity, swing voters will forget, and the enemy (Democratic Party) will interpret it as a sign of weakness.

Play for keeps! Play to win! ...This is not politics circa 1940, 50, 60, 70, 80, or even 90.

In today's political world of Al Gore Florida recounts, Michael Moore Madness, Media Matters, Daily Kos, SEIU, and code pink, it's almost like fighting a war.

beebop| 9.1.11 @ 6:49AM

The resident of the oval office has no respect for the presidency -- he likes the perks, but the work? the character? the compassion? Not one bit. When we have someone in the office who respects it, I will respect that individual.

Negro X| 9.1.11 @ 1:24AM

Sorry wayne loser, where was your respect for Pres. Bush?

martin j smith| 9.1.11 @ 10:06AM

This incident shows just how removed Obama is from being the POTUS. As far as I am concerned anyone elected must show that s/he is the President of ALL AMERICANS regardless of their agreement or disagreement with his or her policies. The POTUS does not have to bend to every one but must at a bare minimum show signs of respect to those who disagree. This POTUS shows complete contempt for ALL who disagree and thus I say he is not MY PRESIDENT.

glenny44| 9.1.11 @ 10:35AM

I wish Boehner would take the podium IMMEDIATELY AFTER Barry's speech and refute everything he says; in front of the nation, all of Congress, with all the networks tuned in.

SWEEEEEEET !
glenny

beebop| 9.1.11 @ 5:57PM

He could merely say:

I agree. No. Yes. Yes. No. Not this term. Thank you for listening. And done.

Rockville guy| 9.1.11 @ 1:50PM

First of all, the Queen's speech is written by her government, i.e., the Prime Minister, who in this case would be Mr. Beohner, the Speaker of the H.R., and I would love to hear that speech!!!
Second, why doesn't President Obama move his speech to Sunday night, which is what Johnson and Nixon and I think Reagan, also used to do, then it wouldn't interfer with Thursday night football.

Strudwick Wickerwire| 9.1.11 @ 2:47PM

Nothing about Obuckethead surprises me and it wouldn't surprise to have his staunchest supporters look for any and all excuses to "go off!!!" The CBC is a perfect indicator of the irrationality that permeates the sycophants who will undoubtedly justify their social justice entitlement, with off-the-scale, near the election violent protest against their existential enemies -- TEA partiers, conservatives, republicans, sane people -- resulting in martial law being imposed to quell the destruction, hence Obonehead's continued, unwelcome presence!!!

Demand Omugabe's immediate resignation!!!

Eddie| 9.3.11 @ 11:24PM

Vadum argues registering voters, a fundamental activity of democracy, is unamerican. I think we have had enough of these authoritarian tendencies. America is not a dictatorship Despot Vadum.

Kopi | 10.4.11 @ 3:12AM

Yes Mr. President deserves respect especially from Congress. When we have someone in the office who respects it, I will respect that individual.
