I know that Jim Antle believes that Paul Ryan and the country is better off with him remaining as House Budget Chairman.

Do you know who I think would agree with Jim on this point? President Obama. I bet you dollars to donuts that the Obama White House breathed a huge sigh of relief when they learned that Ryan wouldn’t be running. Jim is dead wrong when he says that Ryan isn’t “ideally suited” to the Presidency. Ryan is the best spokesman we have for the conservative cause in this country. Hands down. Ryan would have pulverized Obama in one on one debate. Obama is simply no match for Ryan. The same cannot be said of the other declared GOP candidates.

Speaking of declared GOP candidates, the only question left to be answered now is whether the field is set or whether Sarah Palin is going to jump in.

Aaron,
I don't believe Obama will debate ANYONE. You heard it here first.

Uncle Miltie| 8.22.11 @ 8:42PM

Aaron, that is laughable. TARP, Part D, No Child Left Behind, unpopular entitlement reform...Ryan is as much of a weak flip-flopper as Romney, with a giant political target on his back from entitlement reform that defines his campaign persona- Romney may be relieved, but Obama could have cared less about a Ryan run.

We are not supposed to talk about his voting record. Just repeat to yourself 5 times, "nobody speaks conservative better than Paul Ryan, he is Ronald Reagan x 10, if only we could clone him".

"I don't believe Obama will debate ANYONE. You heard it here first."

Agreed, I'd even give 10:1 odds. It's hard to defend complete failure. Any debate = lost votes from the non-thinking "middle."

Ryan is from my state. He is a nice guy who is a bit of a policy wonk. He never had a chance to be elected Preisdent. The next President will be the man who is tied in a statistical dead heat with Obama in the Gallup poll. He the real Dr. of Democracy Ron Paul. The people are fed up with bailouts, wars and foreign aid. They want the man who has been right on the issues for decades. Ron Paul got his high standing in the polls dispite the efort of every main stream media outlet in the country to marginalize him. The elites are terrified of him and the common people who back him.
SEND THEM A MESAGE: VOTE RON PAUL FOR PEACE AND PROSPERITY.

The GOP establishment will not allow Ron Paul to be the candidate.

I couldn't agree more that Ryan would make Obama look like a not-so-bright child in a debate, and what I wouldn't give to see that on national TV!!

That said, I've no idea if Ryan will be more useful to the country in his current position or as president. Hard to imagine it's not the latter, but that's just emotion speaking.

We need a Ryan clone - one to run for president, the other to remain in his current position. I was a bit distured to see (on his website) that he apparently believes in anthropogenic global warming, and an 'all of the above' energy strategy. 'Alternative/Sustainable/Green' energy is massively expensive and inefficient, and we need to stop using tax dollars to support these travesties. Thus far, there is no scientific support for the AGW hypothesis. Sure, there are individual research papers supporting it, but if one looks at the bulk of the base research, it is pseudo-science and advocacy. Goalposts keep moving every time a key tenet is blown away, it's filled with rampant speculation and unsupportable assumptions, uncertainty (scientific uncertainty that is) is massive, much of it isn't falsifiable, etc.

But I think I would still take Ryan over the other candidates, and hope that with a bit of time and more information, he would revise his positions on these issues to something more real world and reasonable. That seems to be one of his best characterists, so I would hope he would come thru on these issues also.

Ah well, so it goes. What I wouldn't give to have a candidate like him who could effectively debate Obama or any liberal they might run for that matter! (I'm an independent - fiscal conservative, and social-get-government-out!)

Forgot to include, "Elitist GOP Establishment heartbroken and in a panic" to the title.

Perry will wipe the floor with Obama.

PattyMor| 8.23.11 @ 10:24AM

We alredy have good candidates running. And when Sarah get in, the field will be jam packed with noteworthy candidates. Bachmann, Palin, Perry, Santorum, and Cain would be hands down better than Obama. And Ryan would have been hamstrung by his votes, especially for TARP.
