Yesterday, The Left came out in full force on the Sunday talk
shows to cast blame on the Tea Party for last Friday’s credit
rating downgrade by Standard & Poor’s.
Former Obama Senior Advisor David Axelrod told
Bob Schieffer on Face the Nation that S&P’s decision
was “a Tea Party downgrade” because of political “brinkmanship.”
Yet at the same time, the Obama Administration is trying to have it
both ways
insisting that S&P based its decision on “a $2 trillion
mistake.”
Sorry but the Obama Administration can’t have its cake and eat
it. Either S&P’s decision to downgrade our credit rating was
based on valid information or it isn’t. The Obama Administration
cannot make the claim the S&P’s decision was based on a
mathematical error and then turn around and blame the Tea Party.
But let’s suppose S&P did make a $2 trillion error. How is the
Tea Party responsible? The Obama Administration cannot have it both
ways.
Speaking of having it both ways, Senator John Kerry, during an
appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press, also
characterized last Friday’s developments as “a Tea Party
downgrade” stating “a minority of people in the House of
Representatives countered even the will of many Republicans in the
United States Senate who were prepared to do a bigger deal.” And
would that minority include the
95 House Democrats who voted no, Senator Kerry?
Somehow I doubt that S&P cares a whit about the
“brinkmanship” that went into the passage of the Budget Control Act
much less how Michele Bachmann or Dennis Kucinich voted. All
S&P was concerned about was the final product before them and
they didn’t like what they saw.
Finally, former Vermont Governor and DNC Chair Howard Dean made
his voice heard as well. Dean, who like Axelrod appeared on
Face the Nation,
said the downgrade was “a Tea Party problem.” He added, “I
think they’ve been smoking that tea and not just drinking it.” I
hear that smoking tea can be good for you. It calms the nerves and
inhibits one from screaming.
As I have
written previously, unlike Canada, given our separation of
powers and given that Republicans control one branch of the
legislature, no effort will be spared to minimize President Obama’s
role in the credit downgrade and that effort has now hit the ground
running.

Here's another WH approach...vilify the S&P itself. From an online TIME article:
"Having Standard & Poors downgrade the creditworthiness of the United States, and warn it about further downgrades, is a little like having the Catholic Church lecture scout leaders on the proper behavior toward boys. The moral authority seems to be wanting. S&P, you may recall, is one of the ratings agencies, the others being Moody's and Fitch, that greased the skids of the financial crisis by awarding AAA ratings to tranche after tranche of mortgage bonds called collaterized debt obligations, or CDOs."
Pretty pathetic.

nohype| 8.8.11 @ 11:06AM
The Democrats must spin the downgrade because if people believe that we need to trim spending to avoid financial Armageddon, there is no case for re-electing Obama. Obama is a spender, not a budget cutter. Electing a spender may have seemed like a good idea during the recession of 2007-2009. (It turned out that Keynesian fiscal policy was less effective than its proponents claimed, but many people expected it to work.) However, it is insanity to elect a spender when the budget is out of control and the credibility of our debt is in question. In a little more than a year we will learn if this country is insane or not.

It really should be called the S&P's Marxist-Progressive-Leftist-Liberal-Democrat-Obama Downgrade Of America.
Collapsing the economy, creating anarchy and starting a civil war has always been the goal of the marxists plotting to destroy the American Dream and marxist Barry Obama is no exception. Obama’s marxist college professors, Cloward and Piven, were quite forthright in their efforts to formulate a method to collapse the economy to destroy America and usher in a marxist tyranny of slavery and death.
"The strategy of forcing political change through orchestrated crisis, the "Cloward-Piven Strategy" seeks to hasten the fall of capitalism by overloading the government bureaucracy with a flood of impossible demands, thus pushing society into crisis and economic collapse."

If the plan is total collapse, then this plan has been in the works for years and is now progressing faster. But ask yourself: was the housing collapse intended and therefore not given a bad bond rating to alert investors? If that is a possibility, then it's possible S&P is down-grading us now to create a less stable economy.

Totalitarian dictatorships share a common practice of blaming some group for their failings. The Nazis blamed the Jews, the Soviets blamed the Kulaks (middle class farmers), and now the Progressives blame the Tea Partiers. Historically, this tale does not have a happy ending.

Look, anybody with half a brain can counter your assertion. What Obama wanted was a clean debt increase of more than $2 trillion with no taxes and no cuts. Whether the S&P wanted taxes and/or cuts is not known, but it did say that the debt and deficits (both too high) are the cause of the downgrade. So, if Obama had gotten his way, the S&P would still have issued the downgrade because we would neither have cut spending nor raised taxes. On the flip side, but for the Tea Party and its spending cuts, the debt and the deficits would be worse because a clean debt increase would not have reduced spending or raised taxes. So, by belittling the Tea Party, the statists on the left are admitting that they are completely off base because they advocated a clean (no cuts/no taxes) increase in the debt limit which would have been worse than spending cuts alone. So, the downgrade cannot be attributed to the Tea Party because the Tea Party moved us closer to what the S&P wanted than Obama would have done with his clean increase in the debt ceiling.

Came home with a $295,000 Lamborghini last month. The wife was PISSED - went on about the fact that we are both out of work and in debt up to our ears. "Not to worry," I told her, "I was going to buy the $495,000 Ferrari, so the CBO scored my purchase as a $200,000 reduction in spending over the life of the loan."
All should've ended well, but when I missed the first month's payment, Equifax downgraded my credit rating (those bastards). THIS IS ALL MY WIFE'S FAULT! Even though the CBO clearly endorsed my deficit reduction plan, my wife insisted on partisan bickering over my recent purchase and even demanded that I return the car and stop my "out of control spending" (women can be soooo dramatic!). Why, she was practically holding a gun to my head and threatening to pull the trigger if I didn't return the car. Clearly, Equifax saw this partisan hostage-taking negotiation tactic on the part of my wife as a sign that we weren't willing to compromise on a balanced approach to solving our deficit problems. To make matters worse, I'm pretty sure they want me to fail because I'm black.
All is not lost, however, because I still have hope (which is good, because what we need in times of crisis is hope and change). With this in mind, I announced to my family this morning that I'm launching a bold 3-pronged plan to address this serious financial crisis:
1) Divorce my partisan, ideologically driven, hostage-taking wife
2) Implement a 10-year deficit reduction plan that eliminates the planned upgrade to the $495,000 Ferrari in 2016 and settling instead for the more pedestrian $395,000 model
3) Sue Equifax for discrimination
I'm pretty sure this plan has a chance; if not, I'll have to resort to Plan B: Blame my wife's ex-husband (after all, he created the mess I inherited...).

Rep. Allen West (R-Florida), one of two Black Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives, elicited a few raised eyebrows and some laughs last week when he jumped up during a Republican conference meeting to whip support for Speaker John Boehner’s debt ceiling bill and said, “I’m ready to drive the car.” He was responding to a clip shown to the group from the movie The Town, in which one character told another that he needed a driver to take him to go hurt some people, no questions asked. Now, it seems, West may have driven his political career off of a cliff. He is one of four lawmakers being targeted by Tea Party organizations working to punish members for voting yes on the Boehner proposal."

Does anyone else remember when lying to the American Public was considered a mortal sin and grounds for criminal indictment and impeachment?
It still a Felony to lie to a Federal Officer.
The reciprocal used to be the normal, decades ago.
I remember when it was university acknowledged that lying to the public even once and in a good cause undermined the public confidence in government.
So as not to break faith, all Public Officials strived to maintain the appearance if not the fact of honesty.
So, When did it become normal for Democratic Party and / or governmental officials to blatantly and malicious lie to the Public.
Or has the Democratic Party decided that the public is so gullible and stupid they will believe anything an official says.
Do they not know or simply not care they are causing a permanent rupture between the People and the Government.

Dixie Pixie| 8.8.11 @ 7:27PM
Greeting Margie, Double and Triple A.
Wow, a ratings upgrade in one line.
Maybe I am the one who is missing a concept somewhere.
It is a fundamental principle that a government survives only with the consent of the population.
Once that consent in gone that government will fall sooner or later.
A critical function in maintaining that consent is promoting a respect for the government in the populace.
Attempted political manipulation through constantly, brazenly lying to the populace is certain to break that respect and thus the consent.
A government openly contemptuous of its population will soon have have that contempt reciprocated.
Since the consent of the populace can only be measured in extremist conditions, the government may not know it is doomed.
The USSR and everyone else certainly never saw the implosion coming.
Is the Obama administration so stupid as not to see the damage they are causing?
Yes, I know some say they know full well what they are doing and believe they are creating a Socialist Utopia through blowing up the old political structures.
But that makes no sense, as in this case the Democrats and Socialists control most of the US Government so it does not benefit them to blow it up with themselves inside.
That would be insane!
Or did I just answer my own question.
All American American| 8.8.11 @ 8:44PM
Dixie, I agree with the argument that a government can only survive with the consent of those governed. However, the statement is missing a key adjective--republican (not the party, the style of government).
We're at a point now where let's face it, we are less and less a Republic and more and more becoming a democracy/mobocracy. And when you have 50% plus on the dole from the government, well hell yes they give the government consent to take even more from the productive class and give it to them.
Remember all those people who were saying they didn't have to worry about car payments or gas money or mortgage payments after Obama got elected? Or the ladies who stood in line in Detroit for "free" money and when asked where it came from, they replied "I dunno, Obama's stash?" Think THEY consent to higher taxes on you and me, or more "free" govt handout this or entitlement that? HELL yes they do.
We're getting the government with the consent of the people alright. Unfortunately for people like you and me and many who post here its the parasites who consent, and the parasites to whom those in DC govern.
I think its gonna get a lot worse before it gets better.
Dixie Pixie| 8.9.11 @ 12:34AM
Greetings Triple A
With all due respect I think you are confusing the foliage of a few randomly selected trees for the forest that is America.
To quote Chancy Gardner in “Being There”::::
“If the roots are not severed then all is well”.
One good way is to monitor the health of the American forest is what jokes are considered funny.
One such joke is::::
“Welcome to the American Police State and thanks for your participation.”
Also consider the variances of that joke.
The results of that joke and variances are::::
Reagan Era
“That is not funny is we are fighting a real police state in the USSR.”
Bush 41 Era
“That is absurd, the police states are dead and only a golden future awaits us.”
Clinton Era
“That is absurd, everyone is free and prosperous.”
Bush 43 Era
“That can only happen if Bush 43 is not stopped.”
Obama Era
“That is not a joke as it has already happened.”
To further continue Chancy Gardener's point, Obama has severed the roots of the American forest and only a minor wind gust will blow the entire forest down.
We are in serious trouble and the American Republic may not survive the Obama Era.
The recent downgrade to AA+ status is a clear indication of it.

You make an excellent point. In response allow me to point out that when your moral code is "the ends justify the means" and when there are no consequences for bad behaviour, then lieing to the public becomes simply a tool to reach a goal. Until we, the citizens of America, elect officals of at least reasonable moral character we will be continually lied to.
Worse perhaps, at least in my book, is the news media allowing officals to get away without answering a question. Boehner was asked once by Bill O' "so you will not allow earmarks?" To which Boehner replyed "It won't be buisness as usual." Three times Bill asked the question and three times Boehner ducked. He evaded the question. Bill let him get away with it.
I really like, admire, and trust Bill O'. But I wish to God he would learn about "Concent by silence." I wish the news media would hold these people accountable for what they don't say, for what they evade. Boehner, through his silence consented to earmarks.
American voters can not make a reasonable choice as to whom to vote for if we are lied to, and if our questions are evaded. It deprives us of our right to vote, or at least vote reasonably.
You are absolutely right. These politicans are so scared of offending anyone, and so intent on maintaining their position that they are indeed causing a permanent rupture between the People and the Government.

Greetings Conservative View
Granted the Republican Leadership is famous for its avoidance of political conflict or even disagreement.
You are also correct the Democrats are famous for shameless political gamesmanship and deception.
But my point is deeper than that.
In this last politically created crisis, the Democrats and the Obama Administration demonstrated a almost pathological denial of reality that goes beyond political gamesmanship.
The Democrats lying was so brazen and so easily confirmed as lying that real and serious deep damage is occurring.
Today's speech by Obama was so inconstant with recent reality that it confirms the Democrats have split off in to a Fantasy Reality so any action they do will be inappropriate and thus causing deep and lasting damage to America.
In short the bonds that bind a populace to its government are being broken by the democrats actions and lying.
What is even worse is there is indications the Democratic party membership fully believes in Obama's Fantasy Reality and as a result hates the rest of us for disturbing that reality.
Obama seems to be deliberately trying to inflame all sides and set the Government against the public and vice-versa.
The Obama Administration seems to be oblivious to the possibility of lasting social conflict and damage because of its actions.
Is Obama so stupid that he believes he can control a nation set ablaze by his political fantasies.
Or is Obama and the Democrats truly insane as their statements indicate them to be.
Margie| 8.8.11 @ 10:12PM
Obama feels safe for him and his family. And to him, that's all that counts. He's got a lot of pals in enemy territory. I mean, he can just hop on a plane and go hang out with Chavez.
If things get tough, the cowards get fleeing.
Carpe flee'em. Bye bye Obama.
Yeah, he's out of his mind IMHO, but like a lot of wicked people, he knows exactly what he's doing, and doesn't care about the results.
With the Left, anything they d is the ends justify the means.
Maybe he'd take a vacation visit to Chavez for a spell, or maybe he'll just declare martial law when the unrest takes place.
-OR-
We could vote all of them out by voting Republican from now on.
Conservative Republican, that is, and avoid the disaster.
Because otherwise you see, if we don't~ we're just asking for more of the same.
But then, I've been saying that all along here.
And am considered by a select~ few ~choice individuals as "part of the problem".
Well, we see where not voting has gotten us. Or have we???

Greetings Margie, Graceful Poster of Elegant Thoughts
Obama and the Democrats are convinced there are safe.
They have the full power of the American Republic at their command.
That is why they feel free to ignore the TEA Party and the rest of America.
My point is they are doing serious and lasting damage to America.
The 2nd Great Depression caused by Obama and the Democrats will see to that.
The true horror is the Democrats refuse to see what they are doing.
The separation of the populace from the Federal Government is increasing due to Obama's policies.
Obama and minions refuse to consider even the possibility of such damage.
One Liberal Pundit has even gone so far as to propose the Red States should be disenfranchised from America as they do not return more revenue to the Federal Government than they receive.
That is a serious proposal floating among democratic thought and is certain to be implemented in the next Obama term.
If that occurs, the the separation of the populace from the Federal Government will be complete.
Civil strife will break out and could escalate to a full Civil War.
Obama has certainly certainly shown no reluctance in fomenting civil strife in the Middle East so why should he not do so in the USA.
Obama has been a disaster for America and is just getting started!
So stay strong Margie, this free-fall into the Abyss is accelerating.

Dixie,
I laugh at Liberal pundits, since they are lost, and as the old Zepplin song says, "Dazed & Confused".
Of course, I know that it is no laughing matter in so far as the damage they are wreaking on our country, and will continue to wreak.
But my attitude is one of. "stuff it!"
It is the same one I have toward the TROLLS here who try and say I'm part of the "problem".
The Left and its minions can't take my soul, but they can kill my body. I know where I'm going.
The great Tribulation is coming upon us~ and those who don't know or care to know their Bibles, or the God that wrote it, will be taken by surprise, or worse yet will curse Him for the pain that is coming. (Mt. 24).
In the meantime, I do what I know is best~ I'll place my vote for the Republican candidates who run as conservatives in the party~ and I'll vote for the Republican nominee for President~ much to the scorn of the TROLLS here.
Too bad. It' s what I see fit to do.
God bless America and God bless the true patriots who are already standing strong.

You mean W lying about weapons of mass destruction? Those lies?
Dixie Pixie| 8.9.11 @ 1:23AM
Dude , Give it a rest.
That horse has been dead for nearly a decade so why keep beating it.
With the Democratic insanity exposed during the Debt Limit crisis we have far more serious problems that a Bush 43 screwup.

Hey Aaron, do YOU blame the Tea Party or Obama and his Socialist friends ? Who do you blame ?
BTW: I also give some blame to GWB and John McC
among others.

If you feel the need to ask then it's clear you haven't read my post very carefully.

While I think it is unfair to blame the downgrade on the T-Party, this article is misleading or misinformed. This accusation is not based on the claimed $2 trillion error, but on the language of the S&P report which (at least arguably) seemed to suggest that the root problem was the Republican's current -- and presumably future -- refusal to consider tax increases. S&P may have been giving itself political cover, but it also gave the anti- T Party folks some ammunition.
TruthSpeaker| 8.8.11 @ 5:54PM
Last week S&P stated the plan to cut, cap & balance would have kept them from down grading. If I recall this was a plan from the Tea Party members. It was shot down by non tea party members. So again, obama, whose fault is it really? Are you not smart enough to figure this out ? dumba$$
TheRightIsAnythingBut| 8.8.11 @ 10:23PM
I'm sure there'll be a feeding frenzy on this one - but how can any American say this about fellow Americans?
THIENSVILLE, Wis. -- The founder of Tea Party Nation claimed liberal ideology is responsible for "a billion" deaths over the past century during a raucous rally here Saturday in support of one of the six Republican state senators facing a recall election Tuesday.
"I will tell you ladies and gentlemen, I detest and despise everything the left stands for. How anybody can endorse and embrace an ideology that has killed a billion people in the last century is beyond me," said Tea Party Nation CEO Judson Phillips.
Phillips, who a day prior likened protesters of Gov. Scott Walker to Nazi storm troopers, urged a few hundred tea party supporters to turn out for state Sen. Alberta Darling, who is in a ferocious battle with state Rep. Sandy Pasch to hold onto her suburban Milwaukee seat.
But he wasn't the only speaker to use loaded language to gin up the crowd.
Vince Schmuki, a leader of the Ozaukee Patriot tea party group compared the recall effort to a terrorist attack.
"This is ground zero," said Schmuki. "You remember what the term ground zero means? We have been attacked."

"The $2 trillion mistake" pretty much sums up Obamanomics.
Nite| 8.8.11 @ 11:07PM
Obama and his minions (the mindless left) blame everyone for the current problems rather than themselves. Democrats have been in charge of Congress for the past 5 years, and President for the past almost 3 years. They are still trying to blame everything on Bush and the tea party. Idiots!
The Bruce| 8.8.11 @ 11:56PM
Sounds familiar -- throughout his entire presidency, FDR wasted no time at all blaming Hoover each time one of his own ideas to stimulate the economy didn't work.
