The Spectacle Blog

In an email a blasted out to potential donors Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus hails the debt ceiling vote:

You didn’t just change the debate in Washington. You changed the results. Today’s passage of the Budget Control Act shows the impact you’ve already had… and how important it is to keep the pressure on Washington for the next 15 months.

The missive then lists positive attributes of the deal:

  • Stopped ALL of the tax increases Obama, Reid, and Pelosi demanded;
  • Forced the Senate to pass its first budget in two years, delivering Harry Reid a dose of accountability;
  •  Held every politician accountable to vote yes or no on a balanced budget amendment; and
  • Protected the economy while demonstrating a commitment to reducing the debt.

The solicitation also goes after Vice President Joe Biden for reportedly calling Tea Party activists “terrorists.” Priebus prefers the term “patriot.”

UPDATE: I should make clear that the message does stop short of asking for money. “Usually this is the part where we ask for money. Not today. In the last 24 hours you have given America something much more important than a donation. You have helped America take a step away from servitude and a step closer to freedom.”

The American debt raises by $ 7 trillion over the next decade. Hurrah for the budget cutting Republicans!

What about reality and the truth?

Well you get better emails than I do.
My email from my TP Congressman ( who voted For this sellout) was an invitation to a fund raiser. I had to decline as my straight Jacket is in the cleaners, along with all the rest of America.

Since we are all terrorists now the government needs to engage us and negotiate for our grievences. After all it was American intransigence and policy that gave rise to us terrorists in the first place. That is what they say isn't it?

So Mr. Priebus, why after this great Republican victory do I feel so unfulfilled?

Al Adab| 8.2.11 @ 3:31PM

After the British victory at El Alamein Churchill said, "This is not the end. This is not the beginning of the end, but it is perhaps, the end of the beginning."

What happens next will tell the tale. After the new majorities are in place in 2012, will the GOP have the spine (serious lacking for many years) to take the action we know are needed to heal this economy and free us from this slavery to debt?

None of this should be a surprise. Be honest. Did you really expect anything but an illusion of spending reduction, a capitulation, a storm of excuses, recriminations, and blame? Other than Quin and a few others, most knew this was coming despite our hopes and desires that it would be different. There is two ways to win. Practically and politically. My opinion is that it was not a practical win. That should be obviuos to anyone who is honest. The jury is out but coming back on the political win but the evidence does not look to good on that front either.

So, now what?

I will tell you. The same thing we were doing in 2010. Keep educating the public as to what is REALLY going on here. Keep organizing. Keep telling the truth. This is not a failure of the Tea Party and conservatives. This an actual opportunity to reveal the scam here to the public and redefine the game, perceptions, and the narrative. It is a motivator to regroup, rethink, and re-energize. The vast majority of the public is NOT pleased, wants a balanced budget and real spending reductions. Do not buy the bullshit about tax hikes or the class warfare rhetoric about the rich. Bush I broke his promise to not raise taxes and he lost. The public really does not 'hear' this tax argument nor wants their taxes raised. They know that if taxes are raised on the rich they will be right behind them. The fight is really not in DC. If you can not see that by now, you are either stupid or dishonest. The DC republicans are not going to save you no matter how many branches of government they control.

The fight is out here with the public, the publics perception and understanding. This is the real fight and should be the focus. Power, real power is out here. The left wing media knows this, the university knows this. Why do you think the left took over these institutions? Why was the Tea Party successful in 2010? They took greater control of the narrative and the message and reached and educated millions of Americans. They stopped sending their political contributions to the RNC but steered them into Tea party candidates. Millions left the MSM and began listening to a new alternative conservative media.

Tea party candidates stayed focused and were not afraid to tell the truth no matter the onslaught of slander from the MSM.
Now, we take the next step. We continue. We also develop new creative techniques to get the truth out there, control the narrative, and organize resources and people. This is how social and political movements operate. It worked like this in 1776 and still today.

You're almost right, Simon. Conservatives must dump the GOP carcass and begin anew. The GOP does not fight big government, big spending, big military operations overseas, nor defend our borders, the unborn, our private property liberties, and other constitutional rights. I'm voting for all conservative challengers of sitting GOP lawmakers in Pennsylvania next year, and may vote against RINO candidates this November in the off-year judicial/county commissioner election. I'm filing my papers to end this relationship due to infidelity. This hobbit will only take so much.

Wayne | 8.3.11 @ 11:36AM

For practical reasons, since the two parties have stacked the deck against any third party, it may be best to use the GOP as a shell. But if the resistance is too great their may be no other choice but to form a new party.

Wayne | 8.3.11 @ 11:34AM

Hobbits are a tenacious bunch. Once they have something, they will not let go. They are easily underestimated, because they have not accumulated power or wasted their lives seeking fame and glory at other peoples expense. They trusted their politicians to govern fairly and honestly and have been hoodwinked. But the next phase does not start in 2012, but now as the primaries will need new candidates. We must load up with integrity and grit.

big bob| 8.2.11 @ 3:20PM

Who knew? How did this escape the hobbits' observation? I hope they ask me for money because what they get will not be currency.

Oldefarte| 8.2.11 @ 4:21PM

I would not tern=m this a VICTORY, but a PARTIAL DOWNPAYMENT ON EVENTUAL SUCCESS, and it's mostly due to these patriotic tea partiers who courageously fought the good fight. This typical moronic Democrat aka the VP can do youknow what with his calling them 'terrorists'. How dare him! Palin called him our on it, as was reported, and rightfully so. He's nothing but a NJ political hack and a dumb one at that. Onward and upward to the 2012 elections, and AGAIN THANK YOU TEA PARTY!!!!!

Wayne | 8.3.11 @ 11:31AM

Palin also called out Romney for offering his opinion after the agreement was made. I think she sees him as another person who leads from behind.

Pelligrino| 8.3.11 @ 6:19AM

Erling,
Thank you for your words and wording. I agree with each syllable. Thank you for doing your part to help save the Keystone State. Please galvanize and inspire others to do likewise! Thank you.

martin j smith| 8.3.11 @ 7:52AM

These people live on another planet--we need new leaders from earth please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wayne | 8.3.11 @ 11:29AM

Yep they changed the debate. You didn't hear a word about CUTTING taxes, which is what we must do especially in a recession.
Boehner said he got 98 percent of what he wanted. Make me dubious about what he wanted. I guess he wanted a huge national debt.
