The Spectacle Blog

In her address to the National Press Club on Thursday, Michele Bachmann indicated she could not support The Boehner Plan because, for amongst other reasons, it did not have a provision to repeal funding for Obamacare.

Well, that's all well and good. But there's an easy explanation for that. If the House were to pass such a provision it would die in the Senate. The last I checked the Senate is still controlled by Democrats who supported Obamacare.

But even if Republicans were somehow able to pour enough demon whiskey down Harry Reid's gullet to persuade him to jettison his support for Obamacare (along with the contents of his stomach) and the Senate somehow went along with such a proposal it still wouldn't see the light of day as long as Barack Obama is in the White House.

Does anyone think that if Congress repealed funding for Obamacare that President Obama would sign a bill that would effectively garrot his signature piece of domestic legislation?

Now if Michele Bachmann should be elected President then she is free to dismantle Obamacare as her first act in office. But for her to oppose Boehner's bill because it doesn't repeal funding for Obamacare when Republicans aren't in a position to see such a provision through in the first place is just plain daft and doesn't inspire my confidence.

Yeah, let's keep that focus away from Bam Bam and the dems and on those cwazy Tea Party people and lets use this as an opportunity to destroy one of our frontrunners. Losers. Maybe we do need a third party. Go join the communist dems and be done with it.

Simon:
"Maybe we do need a third party."

In the words of Sierra Madre:
We don't need no stinkin' third party, we need a Conservative Republican Party that stands up to and blows away the dems.

Remember what Rush says:
Learn it.
Live it,
Love it!

Conservative Republicans Rule,
Liberal Democrats Drool!

What a snarky post, the essence of the classic Republican mentality: "let's not try anything because we'll fail."

Obamacare is relevant: zap Obamacare, zap a lot of future deficit problems. Democrats want "compromise?" Give them the choice: the President recklessly wants $2 trillion+ in additional debt--his much-hated pet project is the price. Choose, Mr. President.

If Republicans had some guts and played hardball the way Democrats do, the GOP might actually accomplish something. They'd rather worry about what the media will say about them. Boo-hoo. Cowards. He who risks nothing, wins nothing.

The Republicans don't have to pass ANY legislation whatsoever, as they can simply refuse to release any funds for this mess or anything else they desire.
They can defund obamacare as they go along and no one can stop them.

Bachman said only that the Obamacare repeal should be in the bill voted upon, and that would get her vote. Since Reid and Obama have stated the bill is "dead on arrival" what difference does it make if Bachman's provision is added? Whatever passes the House will be modified in conference after the Dem Senate rejects the bill. Add the repeal. First it shows a sense of the House and will focus public attention on the cause of the deficits and projected deficits. The public was against Obamacare and passed only with the "bribes" to the undecided Dem senators. Second, it would give the House Republicans more bargaining power in the conference negotiations.
Why give up without even trying?

Even if Bachmann is elected president -- with a Republican congress -- how far would she get in repealing ObamaCare with Boehner and McConnell? "We'll fund it this year with a promise to cut an equal amount ten years from now. It's the best we can do."

When the DEM'S get their grubby hands on the Bill and the ...(too lazy to do anything on their own) crew get it their effort will have to SLASH & TRASH and in a hurry! Boehner should give them a heads up that too many changes won't fly. It will be interesting to see the changes in the final bill....I hope they put the Connie Mack and Rand Paul " Penny Plan" in to really solve the problem. It is the BUDGET INCREASES every year of 7.5% that caused the runaway problem. Think...Government cost up 7.5%...can we afford taxes up 7.5%...no wonder we are in this mess....this change would be monumental and agreed upon by every American!

Lousy post- but unfortunately, it represents Old Guard (Bob Dole) conventional wisdom. The GOP is as fiscally conservative as the Blue Dog Democrats, but I think I've had enough of my team. Rush is right: "we've been played for a bunch of saps, I mean not us exclusively, I just mean the whole country, the Republican Party, ruling class."

How about reviving the Federalist Party?

Michael L. Hauschild| 7.29.11 @ 7:28AM

Bad Aaron, no cookie.

Smarty| 7.29.11 @ 7:34AM

So the GOP has to pass what the Dems will pass, which is socialism?

How about the GOP cuts spending and changes that would happen to the role of gov't if we either did CCB or refused to raise the ceiling? Maybe the Dems should be desprate to get a deal with US.

somnolence| 7.29.11 @ 9:03AM

Well, it certainly inspires my confidence, because it shows she stands on principles. In this case, that is something the author is sorely lacking.

JT| 7.29.11 @ 9:53AM

That's it, bash Bachmann for standing up for her principles. What is it with Republicans? Does the RNC remove their balls and spine once they are elected to office? To defeat the fascist Democrats, we need to never give up the fight.

Rob| 7.29.11 @ 2:04PM

Why should Bachmann publicly consent to increasing the indebtedness of the United States solely because Democrats want to raise taxes and oppose limits on future spending? Surely Bachmann would prefer to reduce the extent to which our nation owes money to China, etc.

Indy| 7.29.11 @ 2:14PM

Michele Bachmann does not believe in evolution! She is a moron that would rather live in a world where you can make up your own facts. Those of you on this sight that support her.....well....good luck. I think that most American's are smart enough to know a fool when they see one.

randyinrocklin| 7.29.11 @ 4:43PM

Boehner will be primaried in 2012 and McConnell in 2014 along with Graham, Cornyn, Collins. Alexander....2014 will be bigtime RINO hunting!!!! Lets get rid of these guys who've been there too long.

Bo| 7.29.11 @ 5:05PM

I'm not going to order pizza from Domino's unless they repeal Obamacare.
