Yesterday, I wondered aloud if several MLB players were boycotting the 2011 All-Star Game as a protest to the Arizona immigration law.

I was particularly rough with Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino.

As it turns out, (as several readers have pointed out) he was placed on the 15-day disabled list for a thumb injury. Not only that but he will be in Phoenix to attend the game.

This means I gave Victorino a thumb to the eye. There's no excuse for such sloppiness on my part. The ball went between my legs. I flat out screwed up. My fault. My bad. I thus apologize to Victorino without reservation.

I believe Placido Polanco is going to attend. He has been nursing a bad back for the last two weeks and has not played for approx. a week.

I had completely forgetten about that Arizona boycott thingie until Aaron brought it up. As several have noted, players have skipped the All-Star game for a long, long time.

And the whole boycott thingie seems to have disappeared down the memory hole, anyway. A few lefty (political, not baseball) sportswriters pushed it for a while but it never got anywhere. I really doubt the players union cares about it any more, and I really really doubt the players skipping the game even knew about it.

Could that have been Aramis Ramirez's motive for declining the invite?

Nice apology.
