Casey Anthony's Choice

So, Casey Anthony has been sentenced to four years in prison minus time served, meaning she could be out as early as late July.

I didn't follow the case or trial until its latter days — and then only from a distance — so I'm not qualified to comment on the particulars. But as numerous other columnists point out (here's a good piece in The American Thinker), the abortion hypocrisy in the Anthony case is profound.

Had Anthony murdered her then unborn child in utero, cultural elites would have vaunted her as an "empowered" single woman exercising her right to pursue happiness sans the "burden" of a child. Because she waited almost three years to commit murder — if she indeed did — the media flay her as a monster.

Wasn't Anthony just exercising her "right to choose"?

A chief reason for the public outrage over Anthony's acquittal versus a widespread silence on abortion is that pictures of Caylee, and the details of her death, are everywhere. By contrast, the tragedy of abortion is quarantined, by and large, from the American public. Precious few know, or want to know, what goes on inside these clinics. It's easy to live one's life without giving second thought to what goes on in abortion mills; not so easy to ignore images of Caylee.

Yet another example of the absurdity of abortion advocates' commonly held belief that human dignity is conferred, magically, the moment the child leaves the womb — or at some subjective point soon afterward.

Right on the point. This is where the idolotrous worship of the godess "Choice" has brought us. Death for convenience.

Once a babykiller, always a babykiller - I always say

Peter Singer, an "ethicist" at Princeton, has advocated for the parent's "right" to kill a child up to the age of two. He is taking the logic of abortion, especially late term, to its ultimate conclusion.

Liberals have created slums where citizens are shot down like dogs. There is no respect for human life in liberalism. There is only respect for the state. Everything else is secondary.

Add to that the fact that human life is further cheapened by granting rights based on race and gender and acts of criminality become secondary issues because race and gender consideratons must be protected at all costs.

Bill H O:
Dean on point my friend. Study up on Burke and Balloc. Both of them warned that our modern "liberalism" is strictly materialistic and would lead to this type of society. Is it any wonder we are Conservatives when we face the results of dehumanization in our culture?

Tina B| 7.7.11 @ 12:19PM

Yes, points well made by all.

I used to try and tell my fellow teachers in the teachers' lounge who supported a woman's right to "choose" (to kill her child): Why stop at the womb? In fact, kids are often at their nastiest in their early teens, I say abort them until 16, okay maybe 14, but why kill em when they're innocent of anything?

Of course I am pro-life, anti murder in the womb. I have put my money where my mouth is and allowed one child to be adopted. I never considered an abortion, and refused to drive a friend to get an abortion in the years before my own unplanned pregnancy.

I just loved to hear the liberal teachers' reactions
when I said it. My liberal buddies would chastize me when I said it loudly, but I would smile and keep right on talking. Abortion pre birth only? Heck that's just stupid. Abortion through 14, now there's an idea.

They hated it, I smiled a lot as I said it. Said, "I love you guys but I don't believe in murder, and abortion is murder."

I will not change them, but they did not change me.

Yes, if Casey had only aborted Caylee. We wouldn't be having this discussion today, it wouldn't be called murder or manslaughter. And if Casey had had a conscience, we wouldn't be here today either.

W| 7.7.11 @ 12:41PM

Well said, Tina. Maybe it should be abortion AFTER the age of 14

So by this reasoning, if I smash an acorn I am cutting down an oak tree?

W| 7.7.11 @ 10:44PM

did your life start as an acorn? are you a tree?

Dave| 7.7.11 @ 1:13PM

As far as I am concerned, Casey Anthony got what she deserved. I am not going to retype here what I typed on my blog, you can read it there.

I couldn't agree more with David's linkage to abortion. I highly support birth control [and abortion as an ugly/sad last resort method of same]; and too feel that the female jurors possibly judged the mother's right to abort [three years after birth] was her female right, and the child's right to life was therefore subordinated to that of the mother's right to live out her sexual filled life without the burdonsome child's presence. Abortion proponents have to answer David's proposed question honestly/truthfully!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oldefarte| 7.7.11 @ 2:45PM

PS: My support for abortion as a birth control of last resort stems from the immeasurable cruelty, abuse and yes murder that child face daily at the hands of adult sickness; and from my desire to possibly spare these suffering children from a lifetime of mental anguish from said cruelty!!!!!!!!

"Right on the point. This is where the idolotrous worship of the godess "Choice" has brought us. Death for convenience."

But you worship Reagan idolatrously. You are a sinner; if you do not repent, you may burn in Hell for all eternity.

Johnny Bravo| 7.7.11 @ 3:23PM

But, what about Vat-o-Jell? I just love Vat-o-Jell. Do I need repent'n?

Oldefarte| 7.7.11 @ 5:04PM

NO, no one worships Reagan, but instead simply ADMIRES him. That's the difference between conservatives and you liberals, who conversely worship Obama, the Kennedys, Pilosi, etc. You place then upon a political pedestal for worshiping. You disparage religion and instead worship these bastards of bullexcrement who propagandize for their own selfish purposes [ie the extreme protection of public education dominated by labor unions that spits out ignorant, uneducated children with worthless pieces of paper termend diplomas, all so that same will be incapable of earning income and thereafter become dependent ward of the government, thereby increasing the political power of these bastard liberal politicians known as Democrats]. To you liberals, government and their providors in the DNC are their religion to be worshipped at all costs!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oldefarte| 7.7.11 @ 5:10PM

PS: NO, sinners that do not repent will as you say burn in hell rightfully, since they will be judged guilty under the Natural Law. Sinners have FREE WILL and can act as they choose to, but will pay the price at their death for their sinful ways [even though they may escape punishment in their earthly lives of crime]!!!!!!!

Flee| 7.7.11 @ 3:38PM

When will they force abortion clinics to post grisly photos of aborted fetuses at the entrance to the office to discourage the activity like cig producers will be forced to do soon? Cig smoking does not kill 100% of the users and they are free to choose whether or not they will continue to use. The fetus has no freedom to choose yet 100% are slaughtered in brutal fashion with nary a peep from govt on their behalf. In fact the govt supports the killers and mothers in abortions yet despises tobacco companies providing a product we are free to use or not. A depressing state of affairs in this country.

Don't worry about Casey, folks. She'll be dating Mel Gibson soon enough.

Oldefarte| 7.7.11 @ 5:05PM

Yeah, maybe he'll beat some sense into her, if at all possible!!!!!!!!!!

Bob K.| 7.7.11 @ 9:03PM

I didn't pay any attention to the case and I think I am better off.
