For the past five years or so, when you mention Mens' Tennis two
names come to mind - Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
But now a third man has inserted himself into this rivalry.
Today, Novak Djokovic beat Nadal in four sets to win his first
Wimbledon singles championship. Djokovic has also supplanted Nadal
for the number one ranking by the Association of Tennis
Professionals. And why not? Djokovic has
defeated Nadal five times in one on one match ups in 2011,
including Wimbledon.
Although Federer did defeat Djokovic during the French Open
semi-finals, he defeated
Federer thrice previously in 2011. In fact, Djokovic's loss to
Federer represents his only loss of the year. He had won his
previous 43 matches going back to the 2010 Davis Cup.
Apparently much of Djokovic's success is being attributed to him
taking
gluten out of his diet after discovering he was allergic to
it.
Whatever the reason for Djokovic's emergence, this golden age of
mens' tennis now shines that much brighter.
