As Jim Antle noted earlier, second-quarter fundraising ended June 30 and, while Federal Election Commission reports aren’t due until June 15, GOP presidential campaigns are already reporting their numbers. Atlanta businessman Herman Cain’s campaign issued this press release late Friday:

Cain Previews First Financial Filings
(Stockbridge, GA) - Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain today released an overview of his first campaign finance report, in advance of the reporting deadline of July 15.
While many candidates started with significant funding prior to the official launch of their campaigns, Cain’s operations started with $0 and have raised more than $2.46 million. The campaign boasts $0 in campaign debt, which Cain believes is a testament to his business principles.
“I am pleased to announce that our campaign has absolutely no debt,” Cain said. “I believe our country is in serious economic trouble, with politicians in Washington spending more than they take in. In my career as a business executive, I employed sound economic principles of fiscal responsibility that I will maintain throughout my campaign. I hope to set an example to those in Washington who should be doing the same.”
Friends of Herman Cain has received contributions from more than 27,000 individuals who have donated amounts ranging between $1 and the Federal Elections Commission maximum of $2,500. Donors hail from all 50 states.
“We are immensely appreciative of the outpouring of generosity from so many supporters across the U.S.,” Cain said. “I am humbled by the trust so many have put in me and assure them I will never forget where I come from, what I stand for and what matters to us as Americans.”
On the heels of increasing poll numbers and positive fundraising, Cain plans to announce additional staff, both “on the ground” and at campaign headquarters, in the coming weeks.

Cain’s campaign has experienced what spokeswoman Ellen Carmichael called “growing pains” since the underdog candidate got major national exposure in the May 5 South Carolina debate. It was reported Friday that two of Cain’s Iowa staffers had resigned, which followed reports earlier in the week of two other resignations, including Cain’s New Hampshire coordinator.

Scott Toomey, who was executive director of Cain’s presidential exploratory committee, has since become a consultant to the campaign, which is now being run by former chief of staff Mark Block. Some Cain supporters have complained privately of phone calls not being returned and other examples of sub-par staff performance by the campaign.

In a brief interview late Friday, Carmichael said that such complaints are most likely the result of Cain’s  surge into the top tier of candidates in recent weeks. (A recent poll showed Cain third among Republicans in Iowa, where Pawlenty rated sixth place.) Cain began the campaign with a small staff and is now actually expanding his staff, said Carmichael, who has worked for the candidate since last fall. “I’m excited … I’m actually more confident than I’ve ever been,” she said, adding that the Cain campaign would be announcing replacements for the departed staffers and other new hires soon.

Holy cow, the election is so far away and yet we are having conversations as if the election will be a week from now.
Ok, here's my beef... I like about half of the competitors so far but I don't see any of them being able to beat the Obama machine. Even Herman Cain cannot win against Obama. Sure, his personality seemed as if it might carry him for a little while, but now that people have gotten a closer look, they are having the same ho-hum reaction that people are having towards all the candidates so far. And yes, even his skin color won't be enough to beat Obama. Or more accurately... "The Obama Machine".
If we don't get a real candidate very soon then we that consider ourselves 'on the right' are going to have another 4 years of Destruction by the Obama regime.
There is one person that could beat Obama and beat him with at least a 20 point margin, which is great news considering its going to take a landslide to beat Obama. Anyway, that one person that can pull it off is none other than freshman Congressman Allen West. Probably not enough room here to explain why he can beat Obama, but I can give you a hint if you go to our draft site at... www.AMillionGoWest.com There you can learn all about our efforts to get him on the 2012 ballot. It's been a long time since so much depends on the action of one person. If Allen West will agree to run he can WIN, and win BIG. If he doesn't agree to run, then this country is in for a very ugly future. If you want to argue these points with me just go to the site and call me out.
God Bless Allen West!

Alan West would kick a hell of a lot of Obama tuchus. Besides, the theme music from the Wild Wild West would be perfect for the campaign.

Besides, Robert Conrad's a Political Conservative.

Yeah, the marketing would be real, real great....

I would easily vote for Mr. Cain, however, if he got the nomination.

Did you mean Adam West? Man that's a good idea! Batman vs the Obaminator. Biff! Zam! Zowie!!!

On the other hand if you meant Alan West, the politician ... you can't possibly be serious. Santorum or Bachmann would have better chances than him.

But Adam West ... oh yeah. Pawlenty would make a good Robin ... he's the sort of doofus who could pull off a line like Holy Economy, Batman! Imagine them campaigning from the Batmobile. Batcave all under the Whitehouse. Too cool.

I had high hopes for Herman Cain, but I will be unable to support his bid for the presidency in the primaries.

I have read several of his articles, and at this point, they have been purely rhetorical. At CPAC, I struggled to watch the first 16 minutes of his 30+ minute speech, and he never uttered the word "Constitution". Therefore, I simply do not believe that he is fluent in the language or the founding concepts of this republic.

I understand that the Constitution is the legal charter for all federal actions, and I want a candidate that understands this as well.

I am the person who believes that almost every answer to every question posed to a Federal candidate begin with "the Constitution allows XYZ, therefore my position is XYZ"

The lack of adherence to the Constitution is the basis underlying all the problems that we as a nation face, and it is OUR OWN fault because as voters, we have not heretofore demanded adherence to our founding documents.

This must change.

"have you considered"... what Herman Cain have you been listening to? Almost every speech he gives refers to the founders, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights...

MM| 7.2.11 @ 7:07PM

Wondered that myself.

Here is Cain's new ad "Failure to Lead" it's good.

I specifically referenced the first 16 minutes of his CPAC speech, and I have read a couple articles authored by him at NRO, which were pure rhetoric.

Just "referring" to the founding docs does not put his deep understanding of same on display to my mind.

You obviously support him, which is perfectly cool in my book, I simply do not.

I decided to go to HermanCain.com to do more investigation regarding his positions.

I read every "issue" page, and nowhere is the Constitution mentioned or quoted.

I rest my case.

Hearing about the pathetic staff members resigning is a mark against Cain's positive fundraising news. Some "hired guns" don't have even a shred of loyalty. The candidates are often much better off without their "expertise".

Many of us are taking an extreme interest in Herman Cain as a potential Republican nominee, and the more exposure he obtains, the likely growth in his popularity will occur. His business-oriented professional background/credentials is a huge plus for me, and he could be the most essential candidate to come along since Reagan. The man simply tells it like it sadly is, and in order to get out of this financial/economic mess that we're now faced with, a candidate like Cain may the one/only solution for our survival. Even though I haven't seen it yet, the early this morning news reported about his new campaign ads that are highly [and apparently correctly] critical of the Obama administration, especially his historical associations with questionalable individuals. I urge everyone to seriously investigate Cain's candidacy [as I am doing], as he just may be what's needed by this country!!!!
