At the Washington Post, Matt Continetti declares New York governor Andrew Cuomo the frontrunner for the 2016 presidential election, and explains why he’ll be well positioned:

Something else we know: I can’t think of a savvier Democrat in the country than New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The man swings from success to success. He passed a major budget deal that cuts spending and reforms Medicaid without new taxes . He shepherded a huge gay rights victory. And now he’s looking to open New York to hydraulic fracturing, making him a supply-sider on energy policy

Looking for a time-waster for the long weekend? Then ask yourself this simple question:

Who will stop Cuomo?

And on the topic of Cuomo, this factoid from Maureen Dowd’s interview with the governor about his support for New York’s gay marriage law is, well, shocking:

“I have a portrait of Saint Thomas More in my office,” the governor said, calling from the statehouse in Albany. It is a picture Mario Cuomo once kept in his office. He gave it to Andrew as a present when he graduated from Albany Law School, and the younger Cuomo has kept it with him for 30 years as he moved from job to job and city to city. “It’s not the first time there is a tension between the teachings of the church and the administration of the law, for my father and for myself.” Dryly, he adds: “I haven’t lost my head yet.”

Thomas More, of course, famously stood on the other side of a conflict between the administration of the law and the teachings of the Church, and did lose his head for it. Cuomo apparently took the trouble to hang a portrait of Thomas More and then radically misunderstood the reasons for his death. He couldn’t be wronger if he tried, yet apparently it’s important enough to him that he would volunteer this information in an interview.

he will chicken out [like daddy did] in 2016. the republican will have put the country back to work after the disaster of barak obama...little andy will have to wait until 2020.

Agreed, this is a no brainer. We don't need a genius to get the country past this recession, we just have to de-elect the guy currently holding up a recovery. The Republicans could elect a stuffed animal president (and they very well might), and the economy would still soar in response to the elimination of risk of further Obama policies. That same stuffed animal will have a cakewalk in 2016, especially with the continuing and inexorable diminution of the mainstream media--they won't be able to do to the Republican candidate in 2016 what they did to Bush Senior--they don't control the flow of information sufficiently anymore.

More lost his head because of wouldn't compromise his faith for political expediency. Cuomo should have a portait of Cromwell or Cranmer instead.

Apropos Cuomo Junior: Pride cometh before the fall.

Anyone who abuses religion the as openly and arrogantly as he does will get his comeuppance sooner or later.

And speaking as a Catholic, I wonder why the Pope hasn't very publicly excommunicated people like Cuomo? Oh, right. The Vatican is too busy condemning ("Catholics for Marxism," you could say) U.S. free market conservatives as evil materialists responsible for the world's poverty and moral failings.

Unless there is a major miracle if Cuomo runs in 2016 he will have to sound more like a Conservative even than he does now.

he is prepping now.
he is becoming more visible.
he probably will marry sandra lee soon.
he marches with the homos and lessies out in the street.

i think he is campaigning now.

God please help us in our country and rid us of these kind of politicians.

The ironic part of this story is if Saint Thomas More were alive today, he probably wouldn't have a big problem with Lil' Cuomo being beheaded!

When faced with a choice between his faith and the state. Moore chose his faith and paid the ultimate price. That is why he is St. Thomas Moore.
When Cuomo Jr. and Cuomo Sr. were faced with the same choice on moral issues and the state (abortion and same sex marriages) they chose to hide behind the thin frail curtain of separation of church and state. They cowardly chose to put their moral compass to the side. Would a man give his soul for the whole world, but for Wales?
