Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) has already performed well in one debate and surged in the polls. Today she formally launched her presidential campaign. Buoyed by the Des Moines Register findings that she is within one point of Mitt Romney for the lead in Iowa, the state is central to her campaign strategy. In her announcement speech in the unfortunately named Waterloo, Bachmann stressed her ancestral ties to the state. Social conservatives have traditionally done well in the nation’s first caucuses, where Alan Keyes finished third, Pat Robertson second, and Mike Huckabee first.

Bachmann is likely to start with a strong base among Iowa’s evangelicals and home schoolers. She has a real opportunity in the state because Romney, the frontrunner, is apparently bypassing the caucuses. The key will be using a strong performance to gain momentum in subsequent contests. Bachmann’s tone was fairly mellow in today’s announcement.

WSJ , Stephen Moore:
"When I ask who she reads on the subject, she responds that she admires the late Milton Friedman as well as Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams. "I'm also an Art Laffer fiend—we're very close," she adds. "And [Ludwig] von Mises. I love von Mises," getting excited and rattling off some of his classics like "Human Action" and "Bureaucracy." "When I go on vacation and I lay on the beach, I bring von Mises."

Michele recently said Lexington & Concord were in Manitoba, wrong, but a least this time she's closer to home.

She just moved to the top of my preferential list of candidates, as definately one who will look El Chosen One in the eyes and tell him who, what, how, when, where, etc that HE IS & ISN'T!!!!!!

i agree ... barring a Palin run, she is my next candidate of choice. Although Herman Cain is intriguing.

Hey, she's a Minnesotan! She kicks tail. Not only does she support Tea Party finances, she understands what's going on in the ME better than any Republican candidate---she's worked on a Kibbutz!

She is now at the top of my short list since Rino's need not apply. The idiots will be going over everything she ever said or voted on to try to dig up some fodder. The CIC has been bringing the dead back to life in his speeches but that's a pass. You can vote on the side of ethical behavior or criminal behavior... take your pick.
