Less than 48 hours after Jim Riggleman
abruptly resigned as manager of the Washington Nationals, the
team will
announce that Davey Johnson is going to be the team’s manager
for the rest of the 2011 season.
Johnson, of course, guided the New York Mets to their last World
Series title in 1986. He has also managed the Cincinnati Reds, the
Baltimore Orioles and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He took the Reds to
an NL Central title in 1995 and the O’s to back to back post-season
appearances in 1996 and 1997. Johnson last managed during the 2000
season.
After hearing interviews with the likes of Jayson Werth, Ryan
Zimmerman and Jerry Hairston, Jr. They didn’t sound like they
missed Riggleman too much. But if they start to skid under Johnson
they might change their tune. Of course, if Johnson guides them to
the post-season it will be Riggs who ends up kicking himself. But
as always we shall see.

Last decent Manager the Orioles have had. Maybe he can do something with the Nats.
By the way, Aaron, do I recall you picking the Birds as being some where other than the cellar in the AL East? Just askin'.

Didn't know Riggleman was still around. I stopped following him more than a decade ago when he ran the Cubs into the ground (which isn't saying much).

I think it was the other way around. The Cubs run their managers into the ground. Ask Dusty Baker, Don Baylor, and Lou Piniella. No manager has been able to solve the Cubs' conundrum for more than a century.
