Last night Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a bill insituting gay marriage in New York state. The Republican-led senate, which was the last remaining obstacle to the bill’s passage, voted for the bill 33-29 earlier in the evening. Four Republicans voted for the bill, which includes broader religious freedom provisions than other same-sex marriage bills that have become law.

New York will start performing gay marriages in 30 days. It is now the largest state that allows gay marriage.

In all, last night was a massive victory for Cuomo. He had pushed for gay marriage from the start, and the bill represents a signature achievement for him. The legislature also passed a number of other important measures last night, include caps on property tax hikes. With this bill under his belt and sky-high approval ratings, Cuomo already has to be thought of as a major Democratic player on the national scene.

As usual, instead of Republicans thwarting the leftist/liberal agenda they prove themselves useless and worse: complicit in foisting it on America. While it sounds "nice" to the ears of the brainwashed to achieve "marriage equality," it will not be so nice when the last vestiges of the First Amendment are swept away in a tidal wave of lawsuits against Christians and secularists who for reasons of conscience will not rent out space for homosexual nuptials or who will decline to photograph such events. And for parents of public school children who object to curriculum normalizing two mommies and two daddies, well, they are after all just bigots and homophobes, aren't they. They have no "rights" to have their children educated in a manner that at the very least does not assault their beliefs.

Not any more. Not in the New America where Marxism has found fertile soil among the morally-compromised and confused masses, happy to have Big Brother's directives be their conscience and too proud and lazy -- and embarrassed -- to appeal to God for guidance.

There are two institutions that compete with the government. So the statist must destroy those institutions. You are seeing attacks against religion and against marriage to do just that. When destroyed the only authority left to govern human behavior will come from the United Nations.

I don't know what all the fuss over "religious exemptions" was for. Muslim and Jewish and Atheist couples are allowed to legally marry, and to the best of my knowledge none of them have ever FORCED churches to provide them wedding and other services. This isn’t going to change when Gay couples are allowed to legally marry as well. And as long as religious organization aren’t benefitting from MY tax dollars, I don’t really care who they discriminate against. All it illustrates is their own prejudices and discomfort. And it bears repeating (for the umpteenth time) that NONE of the legal benefits of marriage come from the church, they come from GOVERNMENT.

Anyway, there are plenty of other venues which are more than willing to do business with Gay couples. In Charleston, West Virginia (where I live), there are several churches that are accepting and supportive of their Gay congregants, and I would much rather have my wedding there rather than some place where my spouse and I are viewed with disdain.

I remember when abortion was illegal, the Methodist church sponsored illegal abortion clinics.

"and to the best of my knowledge none of them have ever FORCED churches to provide them wedding and other services."

Yeah, right. Like this isn't gonna open the door to exactly that and all things like it. Soon Christians will be thrown in jail for just sating Homosexual behavior is Sin.

Jesus told us in the gospels that it is going to become like Sodom and Gomorrah before He returns, and He never lies.

Oldefarte| 6.26.11 @ 2:37PM

Margie, El Chosen One just pandered to the homosexuals in his weekend speech in NYC to their grouping, so I guess many of us should PACK A TOOTHBRUSH if Americans once again act """""STUPIDLY"""""" and re-elect him next year, huh??????

Allow me to be the first to suggest the state be renamed 'Blue Pork'. Also works with the other phonetic spelling of blue. I hope all religious Democrats remember this day when Cuomo seeks higher national office...the presidency has always been his goal.

There are lots of good, decent people working very hard to prevent this kind of thing. And they (and we as a society) are routinely betrayed by the liars and traitors. I don't normally quote from Scripture, but the following seems appropriate, since the Bad Guys seem to be on the march while Good Guys seem to lose no matter what:

Eli, Eli: lama sabachtani?

CalMark| 6.25.11 @ 10:53PM

P.S. Lawler, you sound as though you approve of this law. Shame on you.

lu| 6.25.11 @ 11:14PM

so when everyone says to social conservatives that "moral" issues shouldnt be talked about can we now say they "CAN"???

i mean it seems republicans are ALWAYS FEARLESS in voting their "consciences" for SOCIALIZED MEDICINE, ABORTION, PLANNED PARENTHOOD FUNDING & GAY MARRIAGE but if you ask them all to stand arm & arm against THESE LIBERAL MORAL LAWS, everyone, including the republican leadership, ALL CAPITULATE & HAVE NO BACKBONE. AT the national level a whole host of FEDERAL CONSERVATIVE MORAL LAWS CAN GET PASSED if the leadership would simply stand up and fight for them like the LEFT ALWAYS DOES.

and this bullcrap that moral conservatives are "one issue" voters is garbage. why dont those, including "gay patriots" who censor moral conservatives, allow us to speak out for our rights? why is it that "gay" or "pro-abortion" "conservatives" are looked at as "freedom fighters" or "civil rights activitsts"??? these issues were NEVER part of any civil rights or freedom movements until the last 10 yrs. and even then, people of the left, middle & right have more important things to worry about.

so NYS & the USA are BOTH, still DEEP in debt, high taxes, unemployment...BUT OH WAIT WE NOW HAVE SOCIALIZED MEDICINE, GAY MARRIAGE & GAYS IN THE MILITARY FORCED ON EVERYONE IN THE LAST 12 MONTHS. unbelievable at what is considered a "priority" for moral liberals in BOTH CRACKPOT PARTIES. SOCIALISM & SOCIALIZING. meanwhile the enemies of the USA, both within & without GET STRONGER.

Kingofthenet| 6.26.11 @ 8:28PM

Actually you are CLOSER to the Taliban or Al-Qaeda, they hate gay's too...

lu| 6.27.11 @ 1:34AM

oh please. I couldnt wait for you to show up.

I can play your pro-gay mind-think bs too.

here lets rephrase what U said: "you are CLOSER to the Taliban or Al-Qaed," they hate conservative americans too.

there now we are even. c?

you seem to luv calling the kettle hot when it doesnt boil for your cup o tea.

The pro-gay marriage "Freedom fighters" are actually big brother 1984 mind thieves. If u dont agree with them then they call u a "dictator" or "terrorist", when IN FACT its they WHO ARE THE TERRORISTS BRANDING ANYONE WHO DISAGREES WITH THEM "Taliban or Al-Qaed..."

sorry buddy but this cuomo win DOES NOT END THE DEBATE IN THE PRO-GAY MARRIAGE CROWDS VICTORY COLUMN. IT WILL GALVANIZE THE OPPOSITION.

No more bs about "one issue" conservatives. the gloves are off. buddy. SOCIAL CONSERVATISM issues WILL BE PART OF THE 2012 ELECTION.

get lost sport and throw lies & molotov cocktails at someone else.

David Minnich| 6.26.11 @ 12:58AM

"Gay marriage" is an oxymoron; marriage has always been defined as being between a man and woman. So now the NY government legislates absurdity into law. Welcome to the post-modern future, where things like meaning and reason are relegated to the bonfire upon which Western Civilization burns.

Oldefarte| 6.26.11 @ 12:08PM

NYC will resemble Detroit fairly soon from the mass exodus of companies fleeing that state over this [and their high taxes]. Great move, Cuomo [you idiot]!!!!!!!!!

John2| 6.26.11 @ 1:56PM

Parts of NYC already remind me of Detroit. The socialists always go too far. Then the normal people come in and right things. But it sometimes takes many years.

This will show up in the next election.

Oldefarte| 6.26.11 @ 2:44PM

The only possible problem is that, as the old saying goes, YOU CAN'T PUT POURED WATER BACK INTO A BOTTLE. The wealthy and businesses have been evacuating NYC previously over their excessive taxiation, and this homosexual marriage [which will increase businesses' expenses over same] will just add to this exodus. Once gone, they're very likely to never return!!!!!!!!

Yesterday Bachmann was going to introduce a constitutional amendment to outlaw marriage between two men or two women; here is what she is saying today.
“Poised to formally launch her presidential campaign, a more cautious Michele Bachmann suggested Sunday that she regretted assailing President Obama’s “anti-American views” and refused to rule out nominating judges who favor gay marriage.”
I could give a rat’s patooty about gay marriage; but I will not put up with pandering, nor will I put up with another wishy-washy beltway bonehead saying one thing one day and something different the next. We have one of them in office now that has just about destroyed the country. No more.

Margie| 6.26.11 @ 2:20PM

"Michele Bachmann suggested Sunday that she regretted assailing President Obama’s “anti-American views” and refused to rule out nominating judges who favor gay marriage.”

If she really said this, she's OUT.

Oldefarte| 6.26.11 @ 3:11PM

I could find absolutely nothing concerning her possibly willingness to appoint judges favorable to homosexual marriage, and only last Wednesday, the following was reported in The Guardian [so I doubt seriously any such statements suggested here above are fact]:
".....But Bachmann stays rigid even when her own family members are gay.Bachmann's step-sister, Helen LeFave, is a lesbian. The two were close as they grew up together in their teens. Not surprisingly Bachmann's anti-gay comments have not gone down well with her, or several other relatives. They have written letters to newspapers opposing Bachmann's stance or appeared at political hearings on attempts to ban gay marriage. Yet, even in the face of having gay relatives in her own family, Bachmann is unwavering. No doubt, that is what many of her fans love about her....."

Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann, fresh off of being informed people think she's flaky, also took time to speak with Bob Schieffer. Schieffer was most interested in learning whether Bachmann regretted some of her strongest rhetoric against President Obama from the past, and Bachmann admitted "there's a lot of things I wish I had said differently."

Michael L. Hauschild| 6.26.11 @ 8:12PM

From ON TOP Magazine
Presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann on Sunday would not answer whether she believes being gay is a choice but added that as president she wouldn't judge people based on their sexual orientation.

The Minnesota Representative, who is opposed to gay rights, and, as a Minnesota State Senator, pushed for an amendment to the state constitution banning gay marriage, was asked if as president she would nominate a Supreme Court justice who favored marriage equality during an appearance on CBS' Face the Nation.

Bachmann told host Bob Schieffer that New York's Friday decision to legalize gay marriage would inevitably lead the Supreme Court to rule on the issue.

“Ultimately, it will go to the courts. As President of the United States, I will only nominate judges who are not activist judges, who are not legislating from the bench,” Bachmann said.

“Would that be a litmus test for you, someone who was for same-sex marriage?” Schieffer asked.

“My primary test will be the constitution,” she answered. “They need to be a strong constitutionalist and recognize that just as the justices should not act outside of the bounds, neither should the Congress, neither should the president.”

“Do you think homosexuality is a choice?” he asked.

“I firmly believe that people need to make their own decisions about that,” Bachmann said. “But I am running for the presidency of the United States. I am not running to be anyone's judge. And that's where I'm coming from in this race.”

Earlier, in a Fox News Sunday interview, Bachmann said she was OK with New York's decision to legalize gay marriage.

Bachmann's remarks contradict her support for controversial youth pastor Bradlee Dean, an anti-gay minister who believes gay people are criminals.
