So Long, Sucker!

Whom the gods would destroy they first make a famous GOP presidential hopeful: that pretty much sums up media reviews of Jon Huntsman’s coming out yesterday. “Is Jon Huntsman the Next Wesley Clark?” the New Republic asks. “We can say this for Huntsman: He’s in better shape than Schwarzenegger or Crist,” David Weigel writes (in what is a very fine report). “Jon Huntsman’s Road to Oblivion” is the headline over Dana Milbank’s mocking treatment. Sometimes you wonder why they even bother.

Vote for Huntsman, Harry Reid's Choice!

Robbie| 6.22.11 @ 10:33AM

Here's the more important question. Why are we being forced to choose from such a terrible group of candidates? Unemployment is over 9%, we risk defaulting on our debt, and we're involved in three unpopular wars. Yet, we're being asked to choose from a group of sure fire general election losers.

Robbie,
take courage. We have a candidate ...(actually two), who can win quite handily.
Both of those candidates are not "declared" just yet.
They don't need to build momentum. Both of them are well known to the nth degree.
Neither of them want the job, but will take it in an emergency.
The emergency will be if nobody of stature will step forward.
Thank God we still have patriots who will step forward. (You and I).

I suppose you're referring to Perry and Palin. While I think Perry would be a fine candidate, I can't say the same for Palin. Ultimately, I will vote for Republican nominee, but not if it's Palin. She's a bridge too far for me.

Personally, I want to Jeb to run. Immigration aside, I think he would be a landslide winner againt Obama.

emily| 6.22.11 @ 1:53PM

I agree on Palin. It's bothered me for a long time. I've often wondered if she were a man or resembled someone like Barbara Mikulski (sp.?) if she would have the support she has. And if she wouldn't (as a man or an unattractive woman) that says little about the intelligence of her support base.

WL| 6.22.11 @ 1:56PM

You woudn't vote for Palin over Obama?
You think another BUSH would be appropriate for this next election?
Bridge to far?

Idiots like you are going to get us another Obama term. As a matter of fact...DID PALIN cause the Republican BRAND DAMAGE that was incurred between 2000-2008????

No, you insolent moron. It was your "moderate" boys.

Just go rot with the Democrats.

And go away.

WL| 6.22.11 @ 1:57PM

Both of you are mealy mouthed idiots. You are either frauds...or just stupid.

I think stupid.

WL| 6.22.11 @ 2:06PM

The two commenter's above are what's wrong with our stupid weak party of Repubs. They think they are so smart with their smarmy condescension to anyone who is not in their stupid little "media" approved pea brained country club home for squishes. Your ilk is going to get us all driven off of the cliff. Whanks like you two dribble chins couldn't stop Reagan and now love to talk about how you are just like him...you probably support Huntsman...(probably Obama)

I hope you lose your jobs under Obama's next turn....
So you can volunteer for another BUSH...
and when the next Obama appears after MODERATE COMPASSIONATE AND SOPHISTICATED garbage FAILS AGAIN....
He'll be ten times worse....

WL| 6.22.11 @ 2:11PM

Did you make sure to get Meghan McCain and David Brooks to sign your personal copies of their NOT ON THE BESTSELLER LISTS??????
How about FRUM?????

Did you send in your membership dues for the NO LABELS CLUB so you can make it to the convention this year????

Or how about joining the "COFFEE PARTY"???

Sorry other readers...I have just had enough of these types of AIR BRAINED UNSERIOUS PEOPLE.

emily| 6.22.11 @ 2:22PM

I don't think Palin will win the Republican nomination so it's not going to be a choice. Plus I believe she's too smart to try to run this time. But what about my thoughts on whether she'd be so popular if she wasn't so pretty? Imagine how many people would react if she were a man or an unattractive older woman? I saw this type of thing happen in a small way to my own mother. It was only a PTA election, but for several years she was beat by someone younger and prettier. The 3rd time around my mother won because the voters eventually saw through the hair and smile of her opponent.
Palin says a lot that means well, but I haven't heard any real ideas that "wow" me.

It's not exactly news that good looks help win elections, just as good looks help in nearly every facet of life. The only problem I see is that good-looking women candidates tend to create envy among potential female supporters.

Meanwhile things are going so poorly for Gingrich that even his mistresses are resigning.

caitlin| 6.22.11 @ 1:43PM

Nobody is perfect. Nobody will be all things to all people. Even the so called best person for the job will eventually give in to the countless pressures of bipartisanship, thus disappointing their voters. Vote for who you think best matches what you want and hope they can deliver.

Occam's Tool| 8.16.11 @ 5:15PM

I want Bachmann. She understands this, and why a one-state solution for Israel is idiotic---they would never vote for it and it can't be forced:
