People are starting to question Energy and Commerce Chairman
Fred Upton’s
amazing failure so far to allow committee mark-up of a bill to
reverse the outrageous, idiotic,
insulting, unsafe, expensive ban of regular incandescent light
bulbs. Maybe people also should ask why Speaker Boehner and the
entire leadership team have not forced Upton to mark up the bill,
much less bring it to the floor, pass it, and send it to the
Senate. A simple, stand-alone bill, if written carefully, could be
as little as two lines long.
People out here in the hinterlands really do care about this
issue. If the ban actually goes into effect January 1 of next year,
there will be holy heck to pay.

John Boehner is the weakest House Speaker I can ever remember. And I'm old!

A 60 watt equivalent LED bulb, just one, costs $39.97 at Loewe's. Made by GE (cough).
Chris Pedersen| 6.23.11 @ 12:36AM
I will NEVER buy anything GE again!
PattyMor| 6.22.11 @ 4:09PM
Stock up now on your 100 Watts. Boehner is feckless and feeble. Time to line up someone to defeat these slugs. Upton is another trust fund baby, so he can afford LED's while the rest of us are bled dry.

God forbid, no disrespect intended [as usual], but we have a excrement-pot full of problems far greater than those concerning these lightbulb issues. For instance, if we don't reverse El Bozo's alternative energy subversive governmental policies that is driving every oil drilling company in the Gulf region toward Brazil, Africa etc [and regulating the coal industry into extinction as well], we won't have to worry about light bulbs, because THERE WON'T BE ANY ELECTRICITY TO POWER LIGHT BULBS ANYWAY!!!!!!!

Lessee ...
Fred Upton has a lifetime ACU rating of 74%
Fred Upton voted for TARP and "cash for clunkers"
Fred Upton voted for the '94 Crime Bill (with the AW ban)
Wasn't Fred Upton a big supporter of the incandescent bulb ban?

Like Rush, I have taken to hoarding incandescent lamps. I can't stand the sickly color balance of the CFL lamps and the LED things are utterly hideous.
Sadly, the LED units could be easily modified to provide a more pleasant illumination, but apparently the powers that be have decided that what the world needs now is to have every room filled with the ambiance of a cold war eastern Europe interrogation room. YUK!

We need to start calling this dope daily on this. We also need to call Beohner and Bachmann too, I think she is a sponsor of this legislation.
I actually did call Upton's office on this a while ago and the stupid staffer who answered the phone had NO CLUE what I was talking about.
By far the worst political aide I've ever spoken with. I've called the offices of pols I hate many, many times but I have ALWAYS found their staff members to be knowledgeable and polite. Not so in this case.
So, that's the level of expertise we are dealing with.
Someone needs to run against Upton and get him out of there.
Aarradin| 6.22.11 @ 6:06PM
Wasn't Fred Upton in the news just YESTERDAY saying a deal was imminent on the light bulb ban?
David W| 6.22.11 @ 6:43PM
Can you say "RINO"? Upton, Boehner, McCain, and others in both houses are nothing but sheep in wolf's clothing. It's business as usual, "don't make the Democrats mad because they may not like me" garbage.
BD57| 6.22.11 @ 7:07PM
RINOs aren't looking for Democrat love ... they're looking for (a) media love; and (b) "cocktail party back home" love.
Your typical RINO's "back home" peers are aghast that "social issue conservatives" are even allowed in the party.

Upton is my congressman. He's a huge rino and we have tried to vote him out but he's got name and money. We'll keep trying. In the meantime all we can do is stay on him and push him to the right. He'll sway with the wind-no foundation.

From the Detroit News:
House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton, R-Mich., has finally agreed to support a bill this summer that means lights out on the looming 2012 ban on the common light bulb. Upton himself co-sponsored 2007 legislation making light bulbs illegal, a ban that has become a symbol of bipartisan Big Government run amok.
Upton has come under increased pressure in recent weeks, sources say, after failing to follow up on a promise he made after assuming the committee chairmanship that he would hold hearings on reversing the ban. After months of paralysis - and with the ban just six months from going into effect on January 1 - outrage was building among his own Republican committee colleagues and conservative activists, including a national petition campaign, FreeOurLight.org, sponsored by the influential Competitive Enterprise Institute.
"Freedom Action's Free Our Light campaign has demonstrated that there is widespread public opposition to the light bulb ban," says Myron Ebell, Director of Freedom Action at CEI. "We're pleased that Chairman Upton has seen the light and congratulate him on his decision. We look forward to the House passing the bill to repeal the ban and its eventual enactment later this year."
The ban has been mostly covered up by the green mainstream media, and consumers are only just learning of the ban as bulbs have begun disappearing from shelves. In the meantime, bulb manufacturers have already eliminated hundreds of incandescent plants in the United States (the last plant closed in Winchester, Va. last year) in preparation for the ban - off-shoring the jobs to China where the more expensive, replacement compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) could be manufactured.
So much for green creating American jobs.
Republicans - led by Texas Rep. Joe Barton together with fellow Texan Michael Burgess and Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn. - introduced bulb restoration legislation immediately upon the GOP taking over the House this year. Republicans overwhelmingly support bringing back the bulb, while global-warming-obsessed Democrats say making bulbs illegal is crucial to saving the planet. Ironically, saving the earth has meant destroying union plant jobs.
In contrast, the ban had been supported by big corporations like General Electric and Philips who saw a an opportunity to use government to monopolize a new, more expensive market while transferring jobs to China to earn higher margins.
"We don't think the consumer needs to pay $4 a light bulb, and we don't think the federal government should tell people what kind of lighting to use in their homes," Rep. Barton told Fox News this week.
The House vote will finally bring light - pun intended - to an issue exposing how dictatorial Washington has become. Members will vote against the bulb at their peril.

Before I started my own business I didn't think something like finding light bulbs would be important. However, now with rising energy costs I did my homework and shopped around and found that http://www.bulbamerica.com/lig.....bulbs.html provides a great selection. I'd definitely recommend this site to find the right bulbs. They definitely have lights that can cut down on energy costs.
