The Obama administration knows what’s good for your kids, which
is why the regulatory power of the federal government is being
employed to protect your
kids from the evils of cartoon characters selling Frosted
Flakes:
Tony the Tiger, some NASCAR drivers and cookie-selling Girl
Scouts will be out of a job unless grocery manufacturers agree to
reinvent a vast array of their products to satisfy the Obama
administration’s food police.
Either retool the recipes to contain certain levels of sugar,
sodium and fats, or no more advertising and marketing to tots and
teenagers, say several federal regulatory agencies… .
Food industries are in an uproar over the proposal written by the
Federal Trade Commission, Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Department of
Agriculture.
“The most disturbing aspect of this interagency working group is,
after it imposes multibillions of dollars in restrictions on the
food industry, there is no evidence of any impact on the scourge of
childhood obesity,” said Dan Jaffe, executive vice president of the
Association of National Advertisers.
It’s official: Our government has gone cuckoo for
Cocoa Puffs.

The food nazis seem to be the ones on a sugar rush. Restrict their diets before they kill!!!

This is yet another argument in favor of establishing a federal law which simply states that any new federal laws which use Science as their basis MUST use incontrovertibly proven science as their basis. In 1955, the government, against the advice of supporting government scientific studies, decided to declare that fat was not good for people to eat. In response, cattle farmers began to feed their cattle a lot of fat, as they were paid by pound at the cattle market for the beef. But, the cattle LOST WEIGHT. So, they decided, instead, to feed the cattle what was cheap -- grains (carbs). Eating a diet consisting mostly of carbs caused the cattle to gain weight nicely, so this practice has remained, with most cattle in the U.S. being fed corn today.
Still following its unproven assumption that eating fat makes people fat, the government then turned the food pyramid upside down, advising citizens to eat a diet of mostly carbs, with very little fat and meat consumption. Now, the latest complaints are that the population is becoming more and more obese.
All of this is simply fodder for passing the above-mentioned law, that governments may not pass laws which are purported to be based on Science without incontrovertible scientific proof supporting the law. This would also kill all laws which have been established to stop global warming, like CAFE standards. Where is the incontrovertible proof that sugar is bad for people? Californians, where is the incontrovertible scientific proof that Happy Meals are bad for folks? Government: leave it alone! Let individual folks decide what they want to eat.

Not cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs. Maybe cuckoo over Cocoa Puffs. But probably just cuckoo.
Of course, instead of restricting the use of Tony the Tiger or whatever, the government could just enforce the truth in advertising laws, which would force Tony to change his slogan from 'They're Great!!" to "They taste like soggy newspapers," which would serve the same purpose, but at less cost, then the proposed rules.

This is from the administration that brings us Michelle "Fat ass fat/carb inhaler" Obama, Scourge of Healthcare for the Poor when she was an administraotor at University of Chicago.

I don't eat sugary cereals, but this is over the top in liberal fascist stupidity. Any cereal product contains starch, which is immediately broken down into pure glucose in your GI tract.
Obama and his minions are dumber than a bag of hammers.

Well the Congress delagated their powers to the bureaucracy a long time ago. Now in the hands of an unscrupulous politican, it is becoming the gov'ment that eats the economy.

This is all part of the bigger plan: U.N. Agenda 21. Read and learn how the federal, global, regional, state, county and local governments are hijacking our personal liberties and freedom. To learn more, and find how you CAN stop this catastophe go to www.freedomadvocates.com

Bottom line is that all of us...industry and consumers/citizens need to refuse to comply with these regulations. Start suing government regulators personally for any and all things. Tie up the courts...tie up their web sites. Make it impossible for them to mess with us. It's called civil disobedience and is part and parcel of our heritage.

More evidence that fascism is truly the stepchild of the Left. They want to control the lighting and thermostats in our homes, the pictures on our cigarettes, and now the cartoon characters on our cereal boxes. I understand that they want to remove military advertising for NASCAR - they hate NASCAR almost as much as they hate the military, so its a two-fer - but I don't understand how they think they can win anyone over by going after Tony and the Girl Scouts. Every day, there's another atrocity from this administration, 2012 cannot come soon enough.

That's funny, as a parent, I already pay attention to what my kids eat and make sure the nutritional value outweighs the sugar/high fructose corn syrup/fats/other additives and don't buy them things I don't want them to eat, and it doesn't cost me anything to do it.
