The latest Rasmussen poll of Republican primary voters shows Mitt Romney way out in front -- and Michele Bachmann in second place at 19 percent. Romney wins 33 percent, Herman Cain is in third place with 10 percent, followed by Newt Gingrich at 9 percent, and Ron Paul at 7 percent. Another surprise is Rick Santorum tied with Tim Pawlenty at 6 percent. Rick Perry isn't in the poll.

An NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll taken earlier showed Bachmann at just 3 percent. That poll tested Sarah Palin (14 percent) and Perry (8 percent). Cain was at 12 percent, Paul at 7 percent, Gingrich at 6 percent, and Santorum tied with Pawlenty at 4 percent. It remains to be seen whether Bachmann got a post-debate bounce or Rasmussen is an outlier.

The MSM is setting Mitt up to fall. Which is okay with me. As some writer here at AS recently wrote, Mitt would make a could VP for Obama.

It is 18 months until the election, the candidate that can seperate him or herself from the Obama-Beltway-RINO crowd will win the primaries. Playing the Middle will not work this time.

Rob Tamlin| 6.16.11 @ 4:07PM

The lamestream media wants Romney to succeed, not fall. There's not one issue that Romney can challenge Obama on. Not Rombamacare or Obomneycare or whatever you want to call it. Not social issues because of Romney's flip flopping. Not one.

They're setting Romney up to win the nomination because it's Obama's best chance at getting a second term, and because even if Romney were to win somehow it would mean having a "Democrat lite" in the white house, someone who wouldn't make waves. Even the Republican RINO elites seem to have decided they'd rather give Obama a second term than have Palin swoop in and clean house. Which she would.

Even before the first primary we keep hearing the lamestream media and the WSJ and other RINO sources talk as if Romney has it all locked up. It's the kind of big lie that can take on a life of its own so Palin had better jump in SOON or it's going to be too late.

Mike| 6.16.11 @ 8:42PM

Beyond the attention grabbing, and ratings garnering numbers, the "lamestream" media doesn't care.

Michael L. Hauschild| 6.16.11 @ 7:56PM

Obama? There was actually a feeler put out yesterday for Romney to come on board as VP for the Al Gore Resurection 2012 effort.

Zbigniew Mazurak| 6.17.11 @ 4:20AM

Ah yes, Mitt Romney has received the coveted endorsement of Al Gore!

btims| 6.16.11 @ 3:24PM

Bachmann is good but alas, like Palin, the GOP elites won't allow someone who isn't "on the inside". They will let her go along and run for a while, then Jeb Bush and his allies will ax her.

KennesawJack| 6.16.11 @ 4:05PM

Not this time, btims. Not this time. We're paying a terrible price for our last nominee and it won't happen this time. I don't know who it will end up being but it won't be another country club Republican.

Mike| 6.16.11 @ 4:13PM

With all of the chatter about Rick Perry, I suggest that Michelle Bachmann pick "Will You Still Love Tomorrow?" as her campaign theme song.

Too Many Tims| 6.16.11 @ 4:29PM

What? No septuagenerian GOP Senators were available?

Dole! Dole! Dole!

Jim, I think the two to seriously consider at this point are Bachmann and Pawlenty. the former is educationally brilliant and administratively capable and the latter is a proven conservative administrator/former governor of a very liberal state

Rob Tamlin| 6.16.11 @ 4:37PM

Pawlenty's unwillingness to confront Romney was like a sacrifice bunt allowing the RINO to advance to second. Pathetic and unforgivable. If he can't stand up to Romney face-to-face he certainly won't stand up to Obama.

It's that Minnesota politeness thing. Politeness is not what you want in a Presidential candidate.

Bachmann is like Palin without the name recognition, without the extensive vetting, and without the ability to handle the lamestream media so deftly. She'd be a wonderful veep for Palin though.

Chuck| 6.16.11 @ 5:23PM

Romney (jokingly) to a group of unemployed Floridians "I'm unemployed also". I recommend GOP primary voters keep him unemployed in '12.

Michael L. Hauschild| 6.16.11 @ 7:14PM

So the AGW Gorebot endorses the Mandate Moron and propels Mitt into the lead? Run that MSM thing about them not wanting to have Romney as the candidate by me again, would you? During your narrative, if you would also be so kind, tell us how rapidly this story vanished. Maybe Romney could do a photo op with Gore, one out on a ice flow with a real polar bear, both of them armed with nothing more than a “Guns don’t kill polar bears, polar bears eat imbeciles” sign.

Occam's Tool| 6.16.11 @ 7:39PM

I like Michele as a Congresswoman and she would be fine as President.

Michael L. Hauschild| 6.16.11 @ 7:50PM

If Mrs. Palin endorses her, I am on board. Mr. Cain has faded somewhat in my estimation, but Bolton is certainly viable. I would love to see Mr. Bolton invited along for a bus ride. The Media's heads would explode so loudly it would take a magnitude using megatons to record it.

Rob Tamlin| 6.16.11 @ 8:32PM

Bachmann doesn't have what it takes to lead the ticket but Palin/Bachmann would be the best possible ticket. Palin/Bolton would be an awesome ticket too!

Interesting, how The Ruling Elites' Hired Guns look at things differently from We Tea Party Patriots & The Grassroots.

"Republican and Democratic political operatives, campaign consultants, and party strategists, in a special National Journal Political Insiders Poll :
Republican Insiders thought that Romney was a winner tonight in large part because none of his rivals were able to land any blows that damaged the party’s nominal front-runner. “When you are in the lead every day your opponents don’t knock you back is a good day,” said one GOP Insider. “Made no mistakes, seemed comfortable, and confident,” said another.

Democratic Insiders were not as bullish on Romney tonight but they concurred with Republican Insiders that Romney emerged from the debate without any permanent scars. “Romney acted like the front runner and resisted all attempts to knock off message; he’s still the one to beat,” said one Democratic Insider. “The level of debate was higher than I expected,” acknowledged another Democratic Insider. “Romney did not win every question, but he did present himself as the front-runner in the nature of Walter Mondale. Steady and gray. Some may sprint ahead, but slow and steady can win this primary race.”

Heads Up.

The Tea Party Rebellion Escalates.

Carpe Diem.

Rob Tamlin| 6.16.11 @ 10:48PM

The Tea Party Rebellion is losing ground every time Romney is pushed by the libs and the RINO elite. The ONLY way to regain that ground is to have Palin enter the race. She will CRUSH the media. The lamestream media will be splutting so much about Palin that they won't be able to prop up Rino Romney.

Palin really really needs to jump in soon or Romney's victory is going to be something "everybody knows" is going to happen even before the first primary, thanks to the power of the Big Lie and the fact that the Republican Rino elites would rather have Obama for a second term than have Palin come in and kick them to the curb.

Michael L. Hauschild| 6.16.11 @ 10:57PM

I do not think Palin's entry will benefit her in any way at this time. The Tea Party will counter any MSM halleluiah chorus; the minor minions of will keep each other in check, and also sap any Romney Bandwagon. Look for her in October.October.

Mike| 6.17.11 @ 6:56AM

Compared with Palin, Bachmann is an encyclopedia when it comes to information, although, like Palin, the articles on U.S. History are missing.

If either are qualified to be president, Bachmann is the better choice.

somnolence| 6.17.11 @ 12:13PM

I can tell just from the results of this magazine's number one competitor that Bachmann is much higher than 19%.
