Mavs Win 1st NBA Title

The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Miami Heat 105-95 in Game 6 of the NBA Finals to win their first NBA Title.

Honestly, I wasn't really rooting for either team. I certainly wasn't rooting for LeBron James and company after they dispatched of the Boston Celtics. But I'm not a fan of Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, either. I can't stand his boorish disposition much less his willingness to legitimize 9/11 conspiracy theorists. Contrary to the views of a certain sportswriter, Cuban is the last thing Major League Baseball needs.

On the other hand, it is nice to see Dirk Nowitzki get his moment in the sun. The German born forward has spent his entire 13-year NBA career with the Mavs and was named the NBA Finals MVP.

I never thought I would see the day where the Dallas Cowboys would fall behind both the Dallas Mavericks and the Texas Rangers in the sports pecking order in Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Clicked on the link for that sports writer. Get a load of that head shot. Cheesy goatee and wind-tunnel tested hair. Awesome.

Cuban's a creep.

Thrilled to see James exposed for failing to show. He is possibly the most over-rated player in the NBA.

Just a few months ago, the sports media consensus was almost unanimous: Dirk Nowitzki is "soft" and "a choker" and "never comes through in the big games." That was silly, and Dirk proved it this past week... but do you think ANY reporter will step forward to say "I was completely, stupidly wrong about Dirk"?

Of course not. Rather than focus on what Dirk Nowitzki DID, media coverage will focus exclusively on what LeBron James didn't do, and LeBron will be labeled as "soft," "a choker," and a guy who "never comes through in the big games."

Come to think of it, when Don Nelson made Nowitzki a first round draft pick, media reaction was all but unanimous: what a waste of a draft pick! I still haven't seen any of the reporters who mocked Don Nelson for picking Dirk admt they didn't know what they were talking about.

Indeed, Don Nelson and his son Donnie were among the first people to see that basketball is an international sport.

Journalists! Spit on you one day, suck up the next! No courage, no integrity, no brains.

Basically a lib in a different form. Same with virtually all movie reviewers, musicians, other so-called "personalities." Take 'em for what they're worth. Best,

I was hoping the Heat would win just for the simple fact that it would throw all liberal sports writers into a fit.

Speaking from my home in DFW...no, not really. Sure the Rangers and Mavs have had more recent success. When was the last time the Cowboys got to the Super Bowl? (Looked it up. 1996.)

But come on, the Cowboys remain the area's top sports story. I don't much care about the team - except for baseball I'm not much of a sports fan. But Texas is football territory forever.

Yes, but the dominant Texas football team of 2010 was the undefeated Horned Frogs.

And Lebron James still can not win the big one. Along with Wade and Bosh, Miami was no better than Cleveland last year. Good for Dallas.

Ed| 6.13.11 @ 11:49AM

All I can say as a (very) disgruntled Cavs fan is that LeBron is not a Closer. He folded in Cleveland, and now he has folded in Miami.

I'm sorry, but I would love to have Cuban running the Cubs. 103 flipping years is quite enough, thank you. I'm 49---my GRANDFATHER was 15 years old the last time the Cubs won the world series. My DAD was 6 years old the last time they were in ONE!
