Leon Panetta, President Obama’s nominee for secretary of defense, told the Senate that U.S. troops would likely remain in Iraq at the Iraqi government’s request. “I think it’s clear to me that Iraq is considering the possibility of making a request for some kind of presence to remain there,” Panetta said at his confirmation hearing. “I have every confidence that a request like that is something that I think will be forthcoming at some point.”

Obama, you may remember, won the Democratic nomination in large part because he called Iraq a “dumb war.” It’s a dumb war he now seems content to continue, as he hopes Iraq begs us to stay. No word on when the U.S. Army became the Salvation Army.

How much oil are they offering us to stay?

It is probably in the strategic interest of the U.S. to have powerful military bases in Iraq. It is not in our interest to have U.S. military personnel perpetually in harm's way there.

"Here is better than home, eh, sir? I mean, at home if you kill someone they arrest you — here they'll give you a gun and show you what to do, sir. I mean, I killed 15 of those buggers. Now, at home they'd hang me — here they'll give me a fucking medal, sir!"

I say if its true that the Iraqi's want us to stay, they pay the FULL cost of the little venture. We are broke and they have oil.

Let Iraq PAY for out troop presence.

He and his incompetent boss are both morons, and our military should be brought home ASAP. The middle east is nothing but a powder keg of Muslim hostilities, and a sad reflection acknowledges that we never should have sent them there after 9/11 [and instead should have simply Nagasakied the middle east as a warning]. We have no interests there other than their oil and the security maintenance of our one ally, Israel [which can be maintained through military aid]. It is a waste of our precious military youths' blood to keep them in that hellhole fighting the worthless Muslim terrorists. Its amazing that neighboring Arab countries with substantial armies of their own have not lifted a finger to help/assist us is our military's stabilation efforts there, and never will. It's always LET THE UNITED STATES DO IT. Well I for one am sick and tired of that excrement, and think that these Arab countries should get off their lazy [and terrorist-complecit] backsides and defend/stabilize their own region. Either that, or let then all be taken over by Muslim terrorists, which if the current situation is any indication, is not far from coming to fruition anyway!!!!!!
