As you’ve probably heard by now, Anthony Weiner’s wife is pregnant. Joan Walsh, the Salon editor-at-large who spent last week embarrassing herself with defenses of Weiner, has finally given up: “The pregnancy changes everything,” she tweeted today. “Weiner could depict fighting as political courage, but dragging a pregnant wife deeper in this muck?” Expanding on this point, she writes that he can’t “fight the coordinated right-wing effort to run him out of office,” but that’s laughable.

Weiner’s humilation may fuel schadenfreude on the right, but the coordinated effort to push him out of office is coming from Democrats (a senior Democratic aide explicitly confirmed this point to radio reporter Todd Zwillich.) Democrats are not at all happy to be talking about Weiner’s peccadilloes, and the list of Weiner’s copartisans who have called for him to resign keeps getting longer. (A hidden factor in all this: Weiner has a reputation as an unpleasant boss whose staff turns over frequently. It’s a safe bet that plenty of Democratic congressmen have a staffer who can say “Yeah, a friend of mine worked for that guy, he’s a jerk. Don’t stick your neck out for him.”)

A rational Republican partisan, meanwhile, must relish the idea of Weiner sticking around for as long as possible, preferably becoming Lifelong Mascot of the Democratic Party.

The above comment is commercial spam. Please delete it, along with this one.

With Charlie, Harry and Nancy already on board, I don't think one more idiot will make that much difference. I would like to see this pervert gone today.

WEINER CANT RESIGN

When ambition is derived from insult the result is arrogance. We might go further with this and suggest that arrogance hides a feeling of low self worth. That is the situation with Weiner. All his life, from childhood on he has been the butt of jokes. The result of this constant demeaning has been arrogance and conciete. His defence against the insult has become his position in Congress. It has become, "Who are you to question me? I'm a Congressman, what are you?" He has shown open distain for reporters (those from Fox News get the worst of it I think), he has openly attacked anyone, and everyone who questions him, the all too powerful Congressman.

Now he is being called upon to resign. He can't. If he resigns he no longer has a defence against those who asail him. Worse, (perhaps much worse) he no longer has being a Congressman to improve his own self image. Were he to leave Congress, he would be - - - nothing. He would become a nothing, a nobody, open to every attack. Losing his position in Congress would only confirm for him that which he already knows, that he really has been a nobody all along.

He can not resign. No man willingly jumps into a black hole of obscurity. For Weiner that hole is the front gate of hell. It might be tough sitting in Congress at the moment, but the pain of that is far less than the pain of becoming a nothing, far, far less.

There are only two ways the man will leave office, one that his seat no longer exists, and two, in a body bag.

If we are lucky, the kid will turn out to look like a cross between Billy and one of his cigars.

Those who want weiner to stay to be a scapegoat for the Democrat Party are sick. You cannot judge the whole barrel of apples by one rotten one. Let him begone.

Yes We Can!

Does the term " Culture of corruption" ring a bell.

The Democrats do this all the time! If they don't want to be painted with the same brush let them force him out! Maybe the Democrats can form a new caucus " Sexual Pervert Caucus"

I hope he stays around a VERY LONG TIME!

But only if the Repubs/Conservatives can (or will) use him to pound Pelosi, Hoyer, Clyburn, Rangel, Waters, etc etc etc. glenny

My cup of schadenfreude runneth over.
