I think Debbie Wasserman-Schultz owes Anthony Weiner some flowers. If not for his ongoing saga, the focus would have shone far more brightly on the DNC Chair. Yes, she has been tagged Debbie Downer. But it only scratches the surface.

After all, Wasserman-Schultz has seen fit to call Republicans “anti-woman” and accuse the GOP of prosecuting “a war on women.” Not to be outdone, she also claims Republicans “want to literally drag us all the way back to Jim Crow laws.”

Let’s remember that the Florida Congresswoman was handpicked by President Obama to lead the DNC. What does he have to say for himself? Well, nothing of course. After all, Obama has a re-election to win and in the pursuit of winning the ends justifies the means. Obama knew exactly what he was getting when he tapped Wasserman-Schultz. Well, so much for disagreeing without being disagreeable.

Yet Wasserman-Schultz is reflecting a popular sentiment not only within the Democratic Party but in broader left-wing circles. A good many Democrats and their fellow travelers genuinely believe Republicans and conservatives are “anti-women” who want to go back to the days of Jim Crow. As long as Democrats and liberals are prepared to hold such sentiments and are comfortable expressing them in public then a reasonable public discourse is simply unattainable.

The best conservatives can do when they are faced with the Debbie Wasserman-Schultzs of the world is to say, “You can do better than that.”

I don't think they can do better than that anymore than I think they really believe what they're saying.

TrueBlue| 6.9.11 @ 6:21PM

Sadly there are people that actually believe that, but I don't believe it's as many as the writer thinks.

Actually, it very likely is ...

My understanding is that the Governator did in fact send a thank you note to Weiner for changing the front page story. True?

Bob K.| 6.9.11 @ 6:36PM

Rather than tell them to say "Is that the best you can do? Tell them to suggest that the accuser should take a "Wasserman" test to see if they have the disease in it's 3rd stage and if it is affecting their brain.

Michael L. Hauschild| 6.9.11 @ 6:39PM

Sorry Bob, honest, your post was not there when I hit submit.

Michael L. Hauschild| 6.9.11 @ 6:38PM

Well it seems the rabbit died but has Weiner passed the Wasserman test?

Clint| 6.9.11 @ 7:18PM

Weinerman to The Downer,"nice boobs".

Charles Martel| 6.10.11 @ 11:49AM

Weiner asked Debbie, "Want to see my tool?"
Then he sent her a photo of Barbara Walters.

Actually, I say the best the left's opponents can do is wake-up and realize that peaceful coexistence with these fools isn't possible.

RJ| 6.10.11 @ 4:54AM

David C - I have also come to the conclusion that "peaceful coexistence" is not possible. We are generally freedom-loving people while the liberals demand the power to run our lives. (take over of health care, tell you what to eat, what light bulbs you can have, and insist that the top half of income earners who are paying the bills, pay more etc.) Yet they are the ones who are constantly angry because we oppose their increasing control over us. We should be the angry ones in this conflict, but I am glad we are not.

The one new government program I would support creating is an effort to encourage these obnoxious fools to move to France. In my dreams, I would also like to bring back banishment for certain criminals. The Supreme Court recently ordered that California release tens of thousands of prisoners. Well, how about dropping our worst ones off in Afghanistan before we leave? It might cut the crime rate.

We could also take over Baja California and other parts of Northern Mexico because the Mexican government has told us that it doesn't think there is any meaning to the US-Mexican border.

Not only do liberals believe that cr*p, liberals are certain conservatives know it is true.

In conversation, a purely toxic statement from a liberal is often preceded by: "Even you would have to admit that ...".

tonypal| 6.10.11 @ 10:04AM

Or they will make the statement and conclude with "present company excepted." The left needs to be defeated, completely annihilated.

Keophus| 6.10.11 @ 11:47AM

Or Republicans could simply point out that as a matter of historical record, Democrats were in fact the authors of Jim Crow laws. Republicans were and are the party of emancipation.

Wayne | 6.10.11 @ 1:14PM

A few years ago, the Raleigh news paper apologized for its role in the Jim Crow laws. North Carolina had been run by a majority black citizenry out of Wilmington. White Democratic racists in Raleigh were fueled by made up stories in the News and Observer about black men ogling white women. A gang went to Wilmington, a typical Democrat MOB, and burned down the homes of the black dominated capital. They killed many in a coup de tat, and took over the state. The result was Jim Crow laws that kept black men from voting. To this day I consider TAR HEEL as a racist label.

Sardonikus| 6.10.11 @ 12:51PM

This woman's appointment to the DNC chair is illustrative of the bunker mentality that pervades the left today: as the forces of reality and reason close in, giving the lie to all their schemes, they entrench themselves deeper in denial and fantasy. To me, leftists are no longer simply arrogant, ignorant, and deluded people; rather, they have morphed into a kind of alien species whose behavior I cannot pretend to understand from any sort of rational viewpoint.

My Girl Friday| 6.10.11 @ 1:47PM

I like what Paul Ryan does when he is put next to her in those capitol hill interviews. He rolls his eyes, purses his lips (holding back laughter) at her irrational thought processes and constant interruptions. My favorite is when he stuffs his hands into his pockets and just looks down at his feet and pretends he is scrapping something off the sole of his shoe (that being Dippy Debbie) as he patiently waits for her to finish her latest diatribe on Republican policies. His body language is superb.
