The Washington Post reports:

An Episcopal church in Maryland - including its pastor - has decided to convert to Catholicism, the first in the United States to make the move under new Vatican rules meant to appeal to disaffected Protestants.

St. Luke’s, a small, tight-knit congregation in Bladensburg with a majority of members from Africa and the Caribbean, will be allowed to hold onto its Anglican traditions even as it comes under the authority of the Roman Catholic Church. That will include being led by its married pastor, the Rev. Mark Lewis, and retaining much of its liturgy.

Church leaders say they were motivated by a “longing for a clear religious authority” rather than the ordination of gays or other controversies that have divided Anglicans in recent years.

It is interesting to see the convulsions within the traditional protestant communities in western europe and NA.
The very liberalism that forged their creation eventually consumes them.
The Anglicans were always defending a false premise from the get-go, and ignoring basic truths about piety and sacrifice in JC's shadow will ultimately return them to the Church. The ones that remain will continue their slow slide into oblivion and irrelevance.

I am curious about the state of the Methodist church as well.

There are many Protestant Denominations with problems and the Roman Catholic Church has them also. But based on your correct observation about going back to basic truths; how do you equate, say, Martin Luther's objection to the selling of Indulgences in Germany to rebuild the Basilica in Rome, with Liberalism when his objection was basically the same as yours is about the old Protestant churches.

The methodist church has been infighting and resisting the liberal marxist agenda for the last 10 years. Unfortunately, they are losing ground each day with the slow and insidious poisioning of the congregation.

Welcome, brothers and sisters!

I was raised Episcopalian and as sad as it is to see the American Anglican Church shrivel up it is wonderful to be reunited with the faithful.

The "ordination of gays or other controversies" caused me to bolt from the Episcopal Church, literally in the middle of the minister's sermon while he was advocating those very things. I begin RCIA classes in September to convert the Roman Catholicism.

The Episcopal Church in the U.S. is in a shambles. Like the larger Anglican Communion, of which it is a part, the EC has been bleeding membership for years because of liberal theology, ordination of openly gay men and women, and weak leadership. The EC claims more than 2 million members but, truth be told, the actual number is probably less than 1 million and falling. The recent formation of the conservative Anglican Church of North America, along with the overture by Pope Benedict XVI, will probably drain the EC of all but the most diehard liberal element. The EC deserves to become an ecclesial backwater and a footnote in church history.

I am afraid to tell you this but they ( the religious marxist, liberal theologist) could give the donkey's ass that JC rode in on about the anglican church memebers exodus and the decline you speak of. The intention from the beginning was to coopt the religious institutions into the cultural marxist agenda and establish a firm beach head both physically and mentally in America. They succeeded in both counts. The object was to enculturate and desensitize the public to the acceptance of homosexuality as normal and acceptable. They could care less about the poor and class warfare..that is just a another vehicle to sucker in all the useful idiots and make their congregates feel pious and superior. The overall objective is collectivism and statism and the destruction of traditional cultural values that stand in the way of the first two. They will use these new religious spokesmen to spread their, 'word' and give the agenda an aura of spiritual legitimacy.

"Episcopal Congregation Converts En Masse to Catholicism."

It figures.

How appropriate that this was a Maryland congregation, since Maryland was founded as the only Catholic colony and gave us the US's first Roman Catholic bishop (John Carroll) and the only Catholic signer of the Declaration of Independence (Charles Carroll of Carrollton). All Catholics should join in welcoming these folks into the fold.

Dan| 6.7.11 @ 10:23PM

Don't forget John Carroll's older brother Daniel.

Welcome home. I pass through Bladensburg five days a week for work so I might say hello.

Oldbull| 6.8.11 @ 6:23AM

And the leadership of The Episcopal Church will completely dismiss the message this parish is sending.

Billy| 6.8.11 @ 3:20PM

And eventually, the Episcopal Church will cease to exist because of their arrogance.

I will follow this developing story with interest. I am a member of the Episcopal church and so far my priest has avoided the controversies that have ripped the church apart. However, I don't know how long he can avoid the problems and I really don't know what position he would take. He plays it very close to the vest. If things get too uncomfortable for me I know where there is a local English speaking Eastern Orthodox congregation :)
