The Spectacle Blog

Hello? What to make of these three facts?

• Fact 1. GOP Congressman Christopher Lee is caught sending shirtless photograph of himself to a woman he had met on Craigslist.

Fact 2. Democrat Congressman Anthony Weiner is caught tweeting shirtless photograph of himself -- and of his private parts, to a woman.

Fact 3. ABC News says this afternoon that when it comes to sending naked pictures of oneself, shirtless or private parts, "The reality is everyone does it."

So the question:

Are the rest of us being told this behavior is so… ahhhhh… "bipartisan" in the Congress that there are more such revelations to come?

Just asking.

Seems the obvious solution is to move Congress to a closed military base, house them in the barracks and jam their cell phones. Congress as monastary perhaps where self-control is a virtue.

Louis Tully| 6.8.11 @ 9:23AM

Send them all to Club GITMO.
the entire institution is a disgrace and a joke.

Weiner's behavior is purely disqusting, just as that of Brett Favre a few years ago. It is insulting to women in general and seems to be to be worthy of investigation and law suits. Everyone does NOT do it, and the country has not taken a turn toward amorality or tolerating immorality.

As my wife said, if the voters knew about this behavior would they have still voted for him. I think not. He is an embarrassment to the citizens of this country.

ABC hopes like hell that everyone does it. In that way, their preferred politicians don't seem so.....well.....AWFUL!

Patzer| 6.7.11 @ 7:11PM

"Everybody does it" is the FIRST refuge of a scoundrel.

Way to go Scott and Curtis, joyful riposts!

If Congress represents America it's reasonable to assume these aren't the only ones. Regardless, how is this anything other than lewd and lascivious behavior in a public place??

beebop| 6.7.11 @ 8:51PM

How happy is John Edwards that there is a Tony Weiner? Even Arnold must be breathing at least a temporary sigh of relief.

Kitty| 6.8.11 @ 6:34AM

YES! duh!

uncle curmudgeon| 6.8.11 @ 7:40AM

Get a, ahhh... grip, Jeffrey. Congress is where we send our weenies; been doing it for years. It's a condition of employment there. Vote the bums out in 2012!

Ryan| 6.8.11 @ 10:01AM

On overall unfaithfulness to marriage vows in Congress, I would be surprised if the number was less than 3/4 of Congressmen cheating.

It's the culture of power there.

Too Many Tims| 6.8.11 @ 10:40AM

Everyone does NOT do this.

Ryan| 6.8.11 @ 11:39AM

No, not everyone; however, we have seen a substantial fallout from both sides of the aisle when it comes to infidelity, and the culture of Washington - with husbands away from their spouses, wined and dined by lobbyists, and with people craving more and more power all contribute to an atmosphere where only the exceptionally strong individual manages to pull through.

Aret there more weiners? That's hilarious! Mr. Weiner is the embodiment, the quintessential example of the progressive movement in every shape and form. Look at him. He is now asking the Clintons for advice. The insanity, self delusion, slander, deception, and down right lies that have come forth in their attempt to circle the wagons around him is prove positive.
Here is just a few.
It's his wifes fault, she must share some of the blame.
Its Breitbarts fault, he wanted to destroy him.
He has broken no laws, I do not see ANY reason why he should resign.
This was a republican conspiracy.
Everyone does this so it is ok, no big deal ( except if you are a republican, then you resign).
The list is endless.

simon templar| 6.8.11 @ 11:55AM

That is proof positive.

J.P. Travis| 6.8.11 @ 11:55AM

Yes, there are a bunch of congressional scandals waiting to happen: http://www.jpattitude.com/110607.php

wbfrank| 6.8.11 @ 1:40PM

yes it is "bipartisan" but what about the Democratic Culture of Corruption... you know like Barney The Frank and fellow corrupters?? Are the Dems being held to a different standard? Or is all this lewd conduct, campaign finance corruption from Obama and others, lying false statements all normal for them? We can't forget the womanizing of all of the Kennedy's can we?
Oh, it is only about sex (Her Clinton) therefore it is OK. And what about Weiner going to B. Clinton for advice!
Wow!
There are far more agregious examples on the Left (Socialists) then the right. If a Repub (I am a Conservative) is found out he/she doesn't get to stay in office for a day after... yup, different standards.

Tim| 6.18.11 @ 7:20PM

As a conservative as well, I abhor your ignorance and partisanship on this issue. Republicans don't get to stay in office? David Vitter? John Ensign? News flash: betraying your constituents to satisfy your d~ck is inexcusable for BOTH parties, not just Democrats. Start holding people of your own political beliefs accountable for their actions, if for no other reason than to show you can think critically for yourself.

Oldefarte| 6.8.11 @ 2:27PM

Jeffrey, of course there are MORE WEINERS! Have you not heard of possibly Schumer, Conyers, Pilosi, Durbin, Obama, Clinton, etc? THEY ARE ALL............WEINERS!!!!!!!!!!

My Girl Friday| 6.8.11 @ 3:17PM

No, what ABC is saying is that Anthony Weiner's sexting is socially acceptable. I have a news alert for ABC. Everyone does not sext. I would suspect, those that do engage in this type of behavior, have serious psychological problems specifically, personal sexuality issues. And I also suspect before Mr. Weiner discovered sexting, he was engaging in lewd behaviors by means of other forms. I'm sure his sticky fingers prints could be found on his computer keyboard. If hard drives could talk, I'm willing to bet there are many questionable social websites and X-sites that he has used to entertain himself. The bottom line for me is that the congressman has had other indiscretions prior to what have now been reported; as his risky sexual proclivities point to long term addiction.

Dr. Benway| 6.9.11 @ 2:46AM

The title posits a valid question.
To paraphrase a response I submit the line from Firesign Theater back in the 70's. "You know, I think we're all Bozos on this bus!"

bill| 6.22.11 @ 11:20PM

Ha ha, you said "Democrat Congressman Anthony Weiner." Douchebag.
