Before reading the inevitable analysis of the NY-26 special
election, I’d suggest people re-read
this bit by Charlie Cook:
In this Republican-leaning 26th District fight, there is one
Democrat, one Republican and, oh, yes, a wealthy, abortion-rights,
economic protectionist, former Republican, former Democrat, current
tea partier, who ran for Congress in 2004, 2006 and 2008-spending a
total of $5.2 million of his own money-and has already spent at
least another $1.7 million in this race for Congress.
If anyone can find a race next year with a similar
configuration, be my guest and apply the “lessons learned” from
this race to that one. But implying that the outcome of this race
portends anything about any conventional race next year amounts to
cheap spin and drive-by “analysis” of the most superficial kind,
which is sadly becoming all too prevalent in Washington. There are
a lot of folks in D.C. who would be well-served switching to
decaf.
Unless the “Tea Party” independent is a total non-factor,
reading too much into this race would be like exaggerating the
impact of the Djou race in Hawaii last year.

If he is a factor given the above, it would certainly play into the Democrat stereotype that "Tea Party" voters are ignorant dolts.
Republicans would be well advised, in that case, to heavily fund "Green" party candidates.

What an interesting idea!
Bob K.| 5.24.11 @ 11:44PM
The Democrat has been declared the winner and the pundits on TV are declaring it a win for Obamacare and and a loss for Ryan.
Bob K.| 5.25.11 @ 12:37AM
In NR the president of "The Club for Growth" is blaming it on the Republican's inability to "defend freedom" and "stand for the principle of free trade." In fact she said (Horrors!) that "she would oppose trade agreements that just aren't fair."
Clearly the electorate in the 26th district is sophisticated enough and worried about damaging the great economy that the district already has so that they rejected these antedeluvian notions.
Bob K.| 5.25.11 @ 12:47AM
And The Weekly Standard (before the results) implied that if she loses it will be the fault of the GOP Chairman for picking the wrong candidate over Conservative, David Bellavia an Iraqi war veteran. This analysis is probably the correct one. GOP chairmen in NY state have a party suicide pact.

I am convinced that the GOP Powers-That-Be are in league with the Democrat Powers-That-Be. Their goal: perpetuate the state-of-play that has obtained in Washington D.C. since the New Deal got kicked-in. JFK upped the ante w/ExecOrder #10988. LBJ put it all on steroids w/The Great Society. The GOP Leadership is comfy playing the "let's grow the bureaucracy" game. Notice how NOT ONE leader of the GOP ever mentions shutting down the Energy, Education, Commerce bureaucracies; or cleaning up & reorganizing the completely ineffective Securities Exchange Commission; or getting rid of Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac. How serious can GOP leaders be if they won't even discuss what every merchant on Main Street already knows needs to be done? I am hoping (and Praying) that We The People have wised-up enough to begin a serious and total Reformation of Constitutional government--beginning with the sold-out, corrupt, DickLugarTomHarkinBarackObamaGeorgeSorosKarlRoveNewtGingrich brand of GOP/Democrat politics. It ain't the entrenched corrupt politicians we need to worry about. It's us. If We The People don't do it, it won't get done.

And then there is this:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new.....payer.html
The scammers in old Washington D.C. have tricked out a river of money for themselves: a river that is supplied by the U.S. Taxpayer. How long can We The People endure if we allow ourselves to be made fools of by those whom we have ELECETED as our representatives? The Washington D.C. method of bureaucratic governance is a grotesque, monstrous atrocity of human corruption and waste. The D.C. style of government employs the dregs of our culture to do its dirty work. The work that D.C. bureaucracies do reflects the worst of our society. Shame on us for allowing the beautiful buildings of Washington D.C. to become whited sepulchres "full of all uncleaness and dead men's bones." We've got to clean it up or suffer the consequences.

Now, The Rest Of The Story.
"The Tea Party Express showed up in the Rochester, NY area [Monday] to officially endorse Jane Corwin in the NY26 special election. They also denounced the fake Tea Party candidate Jack Davis.
State and local Tea Party activists joined with Amy Kremer of the Tea Party Express, who said: “Jack Davis is no more ‘Tea Party’ than Barack Obama. . . . Jack Davis is a phony who has run three times as a Democrat and has endorsed and supported Nancy Pelosi and Charlie Rangel.”
"Republican Jane Corwin ran a hard-fought campaign against two well-funded Democrats, including one masquerading under the Tea Party name,"
Howard| 5.25.11 @ 6:39AM
Any similarities if it is Obama (d), Pawlenty (R) and Trump (I)?
martin j smith| 5.25.11 @ 7:27AM
Whatever the NYT says turn it upside down and you are closer to the "truth" in many cases particularly in the example of this election.
But a loss is a loss.
But, this is not a "normal" election is it ?
In my judgement--if the incumbent of party X skrews up the voters will vote AGAINST THAT PARTY and vote Party Y. That is the lesson in this election.
gearjammer| 5.25.11 @ 7:46AM
we all need to get behind a RINO to win this seat, as well as many others. Otherwisw it is speaker Nancy all over agaon. Among the donors to the winning democrat were the producer, directer, amd stars of Win Win. Realiity check you conservative absolutist .
Clint| 5.25.11 @ 7:56AM
More Arlen Specterite "Lesser Evil" Crap.
No More RINO-CINO's.
The Tea Party Rebellion Escalates.
Carpe Diem.
gearjammer| 5.25.11 @ 8:02AM
Just picture speaker Nancy raising the gavel agqin. You must compromise your conservative principles now and then Clint. Or, get destroyed-Olsen at NR has it right. But, hey Limbaugh will be on in a few hours and expain it all away for you.
njartist| 5.25.11 @ 8:21AM
Here's a clue: acquire some principles instead of being a weather vane. All you RINOs are doing is following the prevailing wind: your mother probably warned you about that.
canuckistani| 5.25.11 @ 10:23AM
Just because you choose to cling to steadfast principles doesn't make you right - it makes you incapable of adapting, improvising and overcoming.
The road to obscurity is paved with steadfast principles.
gearjammer| 5.25.11 @ 8:29AM
I have principles and so do those you call RINO they just do not always coincide with your beliefs. By the way, the pervert conservative who had to resign had your principles-give me a decent clean living RINO any day ! You don't have all the answers.
Fist of the Fleet| 5.25.11 @ 8:40AM
Neither candidate had a record of any substance to run on. The third party candidate received 9% of the vote in a race that was decided by 7 points. The Republican candidate did not carry her base, which is fairly typical of the NY GOP. Once again the conservatives have no representation due to inept party leadership and candidate selection. They went with the pleasant looking female whose family has deep pockets, which is what they really wanted all along, to keep her in the assembly.
gearjammer| 5.25.11 @ 8:52AM
Just remember the democrats stick together no matter what. That is a clear and present danger that has just one antidote-WE DO THE SAME WHEN THE RUBBER HITS THE ROAD AND IT IS TIME TO VOTE.
gearjammer| 5.25.11 @ 9:19AM
JUST IN RASSMUSSEN. Davis voters in NY26 give Palin 97 percent approval rating-88 per cent have attended a Glenn Beck rally-99.9 subscibe to AS-100 per cent are ultra loyal Limbaugh fans. 110 per cent would prefer intimate relations with an ugly white guy over a pleasant looking woman.
Mike Gabel| 5.25.11 @ 9:51AM
Can we do a Wisconsin and find 7,300 uncounted votes for the conservative candidiate?
Otherwise, NY 26, consider me disappointed that you failed to defeat a statist.
